Though I was surprised to see that even the FFIX Wiki completely misleads the player with its information stating that Quina's current HP needs to be high for it to be effective. I actually use Quina in every co-op run of FFIX, which my partner and I play every few years because we both ADORE IT. It's such a fun feature that should have been in more entries, limited to battle even as it unfortunately was.

Morover, Quina's teacher is hinted to be a woman. Finally, and this is personal opinion, I always considered Quina to be female because her name finishes with an "A",as feminine names generally finish in italian. I've never considered the all thing, prior to my atching this video though. 😅 A video wich is great btw🎉
Honestly Quina has got to be my favourite character to play as in FF9 due to Quina being a Blue Mage (An underutilized class both in Final Fantasy and out) and having magic that's either more utility in nature or can break the game in two under the right circumstances. Too bad Quina has a crappy limit break, Plus some of Quina's Blue Magic is rather gimicky in nature.
Short answer. Yes definitely. Long answer:Quina has a Blue magic that is a sure damage attack that can can go 9999 damage limit without any other stat factors except for level and frogs catched - *Frog Drop* . They also have *Mighty Guard* which allows them to cast Protect and She'll and reduce incoming damage. *Angel Snack* which cures any Status effect and *White wind* which can heal them and the whole Party. The only downside for Quina is their speed and their low spirit.
Lv 5 death also helps for exp grind and additionally night is a sure hit sleep spell that could be very handy depending on the situation. Honorable mention: she also has access to needle fork very early and with add status she could petrify some of the more annoying scripted encounters, with some luck ofc. Without Quina most perfect lv1 speedruns would not be possible.
So funny. You mentioned this to me during the stream today and I was thinking earlier that day about a challenge with Quina being one I wanted to see. Crazy coincidence! Quina must be one of the best fitting FFIX characters. In terms of the game being the most irreverant of them all; and this character potentially being the most irrevant one in the whole series.
I'd guess there's no concept of gender for Quina's people, and gender is a social construct, so there's really no equivalent to the concept for us. Closest would be agender, I suppose. I'm inclined to use she/they for Quina though. Just sounds right.
You could've used limit glove early on, if you walk into bosses with 1 hp (or any fight you can hit for 9999) no matter what, to breeze thru early game.
Quina Quen's personal pronoun in Japanese is “aitsu” one that doesn't have particular gender connotations. An updated translation would likely change the s/he to the more recent gender neutral they.
in the spanish translation they just went with she, which makes sense given that quina can use some girl equipment, and given there's not really gender neutral pronoun in spanish, I agree with the decision plus it adds to the comedy factor that it's a girl, but the least girly girl on the whole group so Zidane wants none of that action

quinas always struck me as a they/them personally, but doesnt hit me as a character who would give two shits about what you call them as long as they can just eat what they please. on that note, even if characters are fictional, misgendering trans and/or nonbinary characters intentionally is markedly disrespectful not only to the creators intentions, but also the people who also identify like said character! to cover my bases even if i think everyone reading this will understand, this is not a jab at this video or tanta because it was clearly not the case, and i enjoyed it greatly.
