I've had at least two calls claiming to be police officers, and someone had been caught with my credit card. Once even naming a nephew. The follow up, reporting to the police was interesting. They really didn't want to take the call, and I insisted on a crime reference number so it appears on the statistics. Eventually the relented, when I pointed out that I had a complaint on this upheld with MOPAC, and MOPAC ordered the Met to take corrective action.
I moved recently and sky moved my broadband to new address, sky said they monitor the internet speeds and may contact me in a week or so, a few weeks passed and I had a phone call apparently from sky, they asked me to confirm my internet speeds and said my laptop needed a software update to increase the speed, in fact it was a scam they wanted access to my laptop to try and get hold of bank details, I hang up but importantly was this someone from sky sending my details to a scammer?
Quite possibly not, but the more people that get the message to hang up will mean greater spread of knowledge across the community. Word of mouth is a powerful communications tool and it has to start somewhere. Anything is better than nothing I feel.
Yes that is one of my golden rules now too. A day or s after this video I had a number come up on my phone so I dropped it into Google and it can back as one of those no one on the other end. I therefore blocked the number.

When they ask me how I am, I tell them about my lower back pain and they soon hang up.
Thats one way of doing.. Way back I used to say I had a pot on the stove and then just leave them hanging on the phone till they gave up.

Almost certainly.
Great video, but the people it's aimed at aren't going to researching telephone scams on youtube.

if you don't know the number don't answer it that simple
