Kubrick specifically wanted a husband and wife to play Bill and Alice Hartford, so Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were his top choices. Both stars signed open-ended contracts, under which they agreed to work on the film until Kubrick released them, however long that might be.
Eyes Wide Shut, Stanley's final film, was released in 1999 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
