- In this video we take up and old fence surrounding an unused game cover plot. I then mix a load of old grass seed bags together and drill them on the plot as well as some of the forage rye ground that didn't germinate well.
I also talk about some of the issues we have moving forward with TB in our cattle.
I hope you enjoy it.

This is slowly becoming one of my favourite channels to watch, lots of farming going on all year round, much to see your dad keeping you right 😂😂
Thanks Stephen, that means a lot. I really appreciate that you take the time to watch them 👍
An old saying here, "never cast a clout til May,s out"!
Very true Cecil, but in that case I’ll have to buy a thinner one 😂
Hi James Nice one smart phones are a expensive torch 🤣 Thanks again
Cheers Darran! Tell me about it, but they are very handy.
nice video
Thanks Alejandro 👍
Ive seen grass sowed in February when in ag collage the crop only grew 50% as frost and cold weather came for a few days of sowing. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen to you but it will be a great established crop by may if things work out. Will make great silage. 👍
Thanks Michael! I know it’s a bit of a risk but we wanted to take our chances so that dad and I could both be around the yard more when calving which is pretty immanent. We now just live in hope 😂
Some people say you can show grass seed any month with an r in it, I'd say as long as it' stays fairly dry it will be fine
@@richardmatthews3304 can or can't Richard?
@@gerryoconnor8751 can,
Are you not afraid it's too early for grasseeds? We wouldn't dare sow them here until mid April, incase of severe frost.
I supposed it’s a bit of a risk but with the decent weather we’ve had we thought we would just have a go so that we are in the yard more for calving.
Got the same accord drill as yours, how many times do you turn the metering wheel to calibrate it?
Hey will, it’s about 60 turns but I usually turn it until the clock reads 41 and then multiply that by 10 to give the amount per acre. 👍
Do you direct drill ???
All our arable crops are direct drilled but the claydon isn’t suitable to direct drill grass seeds. 👍
How do you keep the mice out of loft stored grass seed?
We’ve had a load of bait up there which they’ve helped themselves too but they’ll always find a way.
Watch out for them badgers not good where cattle TB no one wants that
It’s always a concern especially after going down last year. Hopefully we would be in a better position to cope if it happened again but non the less I hope it doesn’t.
