We live in the desert southwest, where it stays between 105F-112F from June through the end of August, then 100F-105 through September. Even so, I'd much rather put up with our intense dry heat than a 90F degree day with the humidity of Minnesota. I'm melting just looking at you guys.
I'm an airline pilot, so I get to spend a lot of time in Minnesota; it's one of my favorite states. The "Minnesota Nice" is rampant... everyone is so friendly. Not to mention the fact that *everyone* takes their job seriously and does the absolute best work they possibly can. The rest of the USA could learn a thing or two about work ethics from the good folks in Minnesota.
Fantastic video, Chet. Really interesting to see the process of grain bin construction, and always nice to learn more about spraying and how you guys keep track of your fields. Good stuff.

Hello Eric , Mother Nature is not done yet she has not opened her big doors yet. Hello Chet , Dougo , Brody ! That’s a lot of tin scrap. Chet you need ear plugs that is very loud . Do you get dock for stocks being in the beans ? That is how we do our fields keeping a book sheet tracking everything we did to our fields. Thanks for the info on how you keep track of your fields.

Your new blue water tank is coming along great. That was a good purchase. Working good for your operation.
Getting all of the usable items off of the bin to be crushed is important. Lots that can be reused.
The construction work being done on the new bins is so interesting. Never guessed they needed that much footing and pad work done to support those bins full of corn. Wow and wow. Pretty heavy duty work. Will be interesting to see it go up. Nice Chet for filming that and explaining to us what is going on. Thanks!!!!
Busy time right now with storm damage work and spraying. My compliments to all of you for the great teamwork and getting it done as they say. Coming along great.

Getting back to the 500 gpm well, If you do have one installed make sure you have a hydrant installed also. The local fire dept. can use it, with restrictions of course and it may help with your insurance costs also. Keep up the good work.

I used to build new grain bins, take down old ones & rebuild them, & the bins that are standing look salvageable. Can't you have a company come in & fix them?
The first pour is the bin footing. Second pout is the stem wall. Then backfill for the floor. If you have any aeration trenches they will dig those and pour the bottoms. Them they will pour the trench walls and the floor in one pour. And I would bet there is going to be more re-bar in the footing before they are done. LOOKN GOOD!!

A farmer I worked for bought a reefer trailer and set it up for spraying so when they are mixing and stuff and they leave the trailer run about 68 degrees roughly and we loved it

The fact that you are all there talking about the tornado is good!! Underwear can be washed and/or replaced. YOU people can NOT. There are NO more like you. (thank gosh) Your videos are a hell of an education for me that's for sure!! There is SO much going on there is is impossible to know. Without your explanations and lessons, NO one knows. The amount of damage is crazy, those winds are just tearing up everything along with the tornadoes. Thank G-d you have insurance, even if it doesn't cover everything. I pray that no more storm's causing this kind of damager come through. You guy's sure have a lot to get done, and replaced. Thank you for the video's Chet, you are a great team over there. What’s wrong with spelling out GOD
Some jews (and probably hebrew bible fundamentalists) don't write it out fully out of a sense of making the actual name become too commonplace...and there's soemthing about not being good to erase the full spelling ... there are a half dozen or so specific hebrew names for him. (explained by a fairly observant guy I worked with several years ago, sorry if I got it not quite right).
I realize this really isn't something that everyone has available, but we were very lucky to buy (in the 70s) an old creamery building with a very large well. Our well pump does 100 gallons a minute so we never had the need to store water. We no longer farm but it has come in handy to re-supply water for fighting fires.

Hudson floats are ok if there is a pre filter. They also are slow asf when filling. Change it for a jobe float imo. Also check into uniseals in the future as alternatives to bulkhead fittings.

Chet take one of your liquid chemical tubs out and use the cage on the liftup on the forklift, height wont seem so bad and it is safer.

You've got so much work to do to recover from the storms, hang in there, we're all in this together,
Know all about that rebar. Pour many a tank pad at the local paper mill. The silos set on concrete foundations that the pile cap was 8 feet thick and then 3 more feet for the tank pad took over 13 hour of non stop pouring 2 10 yard trucks at a time to get it done!

In house building, the deep concrete around the edge is called a footer. I assume it’s the same for bins bc it does the same thing.

You could you use straight panels off the good side of the wrecked bin to fix the damaged bin beside it? Unless it voids your insurance it could be a possibility to reuse potential spares. Could add an extra ring of height too if there was enough undamaged sheets but I'm guessing that could be a redesign of the filler and require an Engineer to sign off on it.

The edge built up concrete pour is called a monolithic pour.
Much simpler to use a monolithic pour and only place concrete where you need it. Most building on a slab are done this way.
For your damaged grain bins. You should be able to bolt a strong back to the tin in a couple of locations, then remove other sheets of tin to reuse on the slightly damaged bin.
They should be able to just replace the few sheets while that bin is standing. We replaced a few sheets like that a few months ago.
You guys need to invest in a nice skyjack boom lift to do some of the Ariel work.
Chet I think the name of your bin foundation is a " floating monolithic" if I remember right
We just got hit with pretty bad straight line winds here in northwest Indiana. We lost 2 bins and our vac system and some neighbors lost 3 bins and a grain leg. Super frustrating but nothing we can’t get through. I’ve never been through something like this before just a lot of irrigators blown over
Put a lock on the top lid of that fracking tank. When that is full it can be dangerous if some one trespasses

We had a well that could do 600 gallons a minute 318ft deep, 12” casing on it
Straight line winds,,,, they tear up more then any tornado. I’ve lost buildings, several pivots, crops. Two brand new pivots that never had water in them. Sucks. But it’s all replaceable.

Interesting some people would buy the salvaged bins to make them into a structures, homes, gazebo, even swimming pools , The ultimate DYI project. saw that recently on TH-cam
The rebar in the bottom footer should really have a bend in it that goes up into the vertical wall so they are tied together. Maybe they'll come back and add more rebar before the concrete pour.
They a far from being finished on the footer.
A lot of the bin rings could be used to extend other bins, or as used rings on a new bin the same size.
Chet since you have all this free time with no storm damage at the farm why don’t you guys just walk the fields and pull the volunteer corn by hand? Think of how fun that would be!!!lol
