Rolling Stone magazine has continually rated Elvis, the 3rd greatest singer of all time, with Areatha Franklin #1 and Ray Charles No 2. On greatest entertainers of all time they rate him #2. There lists include 500 singers.
What he this performance live. James Dean, the actor who died during filming Giant, was supposed to do this role. Elvis asked Walter Matthau, and established actor for acting advise. Matthau told him he didn’t need any tips, as elvis was a natural actor with great confidence.
So many great actors in this film! One of my sentimental favorites, Dean Jagger (plays Mr Fisher, the dad) because he makes me think of White Christmas, a wonderful Holiday movie that I watch every year. Of course we’ve already met our Loving You sweetheart, Dolores Hart, here in her second film opposite Elvis. She was also wonderful in a lovely summer film called Where the Boys Are, which is just a slice of mid-century Americana that can’t be described, only taken in by watching the movie. Walter Matthau was already a respected actor here, and his reputation speaks for itself, but most young people will know him from the Grumpy Old Men movies. One of those rare actors that could do comedy or drama equally convincingly, blend in or help carry the film, as need be. The very striking woman who plays the ill-fated Ronnie would go on to needle her way into American hearts by becoming tv’s Morticia Addams. Vic Morrow, aka Shark, was a known face to me as a kid in the 70s. He was one of those guys that popped up in almost everything. That ended in 1982 when he was killed with two child actors during a helicopter accident while filming The Twilight Zone movie. I’m probably missing some but those are the ones who stuck out. Oh…the druggist: I recognize his voice but I can’t place his face to anything specific.
Where you insert yourself on the film gets to me, lol! I'm here watching and suddenly there you are, a 3rd wheel in the car or peeking through the window with Elvis!
You are SO good at this. I LOL often times. Arguably, this is Elvis' best (and most critically acclaimed) film. According to all accounts, after the making of King Creole Elvis told the director, Michael Curtiz (also director of Casablanca), "thank you Mr. Curtiz, now I know what a director is." The next 6 films (till 1961) is a mixed bag of dramas and (musical) comedies after which the established formula kicks in (1962). Elvis had a brilliant flair for light comedy and his natural ability quite mirrors that of Gary Grant. Both men were superb physical actors, and both had "funny bones". Naturally, I watch an Elvis movie because ELVIS IS IN IT. 😍

In every movie there's some good songs also.
Outstanding reaction! Your jungle room background was a nice touch. My phone was actually sitting on a table quite similar to the one behind you as I watched this. I've never laughed so hard during a dramatic movie before. The way you kept popping up in the scenes, the fire shooting out when Ronnie threw her drink, Spiderman, etc. was so ingenious! After a bit of a dry spell on the Elvis reactions, thanks for giving me a really fun evening! And, yes, that was the Jordanaires singing back-up. They're in most of Elvis' movies. Fun fact: when they first started filming Elvis said to Walter Matthau (Maxie Fields) "if you could help me out with this acting thing, I'd sure appreciate it" to which WM replied " I've seen you act. You don't need any help from me".
@@SephPlays A little history: The Jordanaires were formed in 1948 when Elvis was 13 years old. They performed every Saturday night on The Grand Ole Opry radio show which was a staple in probably all southern homes at the time. They stood out from other quartets in that they specialized in singing spirituals (black gospel songs) to predominantly white audiences. And Elvis, having grown up being heavily influenced by both white and black southern gospel music, loved what were called at the time colored spirituals. He said he thought he knew every one ever written and actually remembered beginning to sing gospel songs at the age of two. This quartet was with Elvis throughout much of his career so you'll hear a lot of them. And later on, when they preferred not to go on tour, they were replaced with others who were also fantastic. Elvis personally chose his musicians, and they were all spectacular. No spoilers, but it's all ahead of you to discover what grew from the two-piece band (plus Elvis on the guitar) at the beginning to what it became as the years went on.

Elvis had some great performances in his early days. Until Flaming Star and Wild In The Country both didn't do very well at the box office, he got a chance to show his acting ability. When that happened, he was basically relegated to the boy meets girl musicals and some were definitely better than others, but none were outright classics. The closest was Change of Habit, released after his Comeback Special, where he playing a singing (of course) MD who falls in love with a nun. Probably his best of those kinds of films from a writing and acting perspective.
I just wanted to tell you in jail house rock those people were his original band bass player guitar player those are the only two that really started with him and the drummer came a little bit later that's his original band
I just want to prepare you for future films, the amount of great songs will be less and less as it goes but many actually sound better without the video imo because they take a different atmosphere when you hear them without the visuals. Like 1 song that's very childlike and cutesy on the film becomes eerie and haunting when you listen to it without the visuals.

Your background is the Jungle Room! Also: The song you loved where Elvis is talking back is called "Trouble". Slight spoiler: He performs that song later on in his career 😉 The duet "Crawfish" was actually sung live on set as the film was rolling. Kitty White & Elvis had pre- recorded the song for the movie but on the day if filming that particular scene the sound tech (or engineer) was having difficulty with the sound equipment. So Elvis asks the director, Michael Curtiz, if its alright if he sings during a live take. Michael Curtiz is doubtful at first and expresses as much but Elvis insists he can do it. Michael Curtis kind of "gives in" by saying, "Well, if Miss White agrees to sing her part live, then okay, we'll give it a shot." Elvis goes to Miss Kitty White and explains to her the situation and asks if she's willing to sing her part of the duet during a live take. She says yes. So what you saw & heard there was actually Elvis & Kitty White singing live while the camera was rolling. Kitty White's daughter would later give an interview after her mother passed & said that her mother had nothing but good things to say about Elvis. Apparently she spoke highly of him. Miss Kitty White told her daughter that Elvis was a gentleman and the nicest man. I clicked like before I watched. That's how confident I am in your reaction, Seph. One question: this is from 1958, and I'm wondering if you're going to react to the rest of the 1957 songs.
Because of copyright being a pain with the 1957 songs, i decided to do this movie first, then attempt to do the 57 songs again very very soon. Technical issues 😅 But I'm still going to listen to *Every* song! This train ain't gonna stop just because i got sidetracked! Haha

If you haven't seen the rehearsal version of "Don't", I highly recommend it: Elvis Presley - Don't (Rehearsal MGM Studios July 29, 1970) (2:48). Have a great day and a wonderful birthday on Sunday!
While Elvis made a lot of bad teen movies (to stay cool and relevant, and that strategy worked), he also made a lot of awesome movies. I'd say his good movies are Follow That Dream, Flaming Star, King Creole, The Trouble With Girls, Love Me Tender, Fun in Acapulco, Wild in the Country, G.I. Blues, Roustabout, and Viva Las Vegas. Jailhouse Rock was well-done although it's too depressing for me. Elvis's acting was way too convincing as a bad guy.
I also like his films Kid Galahad, Charro!, Frankie and Johnny, and The Trouble with Girls. And I know they're a teen type of films but also enjoyed Clambake, Speedway, Spinout, Tickle Me, and Paradise Hawaiian Style
So sad to see this movie all cut up and blurry like this. Its such a great movie. This is one of the few Elvis movies he liked...most he couldnt even watch. Please go watch the whole movie Seph. This cop chop blur stuff will ruin the real movie.

You could also leave a link for the original song, for those who like to hear that.
Just past the 15 minute mark and I can't stand it anymore! You're one of those who talks all through a movie, aren't you?! Here's the thing: If you're doing reactions and you talk while the movie is still running, you're missing important dialog. And we can't hear what you're saying! It's very frustrating to watch that. Added: Case in point... you asked how she knew he was there to rob the store. If you had been listening instead of talking during the store scene, you'd have heard her tell him she saw what he and his buddies were doing!
There are hundreds of other reactors on youtube! Instead of messaging me, you should be watching them!.... Seriously if you don't like someone you shouldn't be messaging them!?

Kitty White & Elvis had pre- recorded the song for the movie but on the day if filming that particular scene the sound tech (or engineer) was having difficulty with the sound equipment.
So Elvis asks the director, Michael Curtiz, if its alright if he sings during a live take.
Michael Curtiz is doubtful at first and expresses as much but Elvis insists he can do it.
Michael Curtis kind of "gives in" by saying, "Well, if Miss White agrees to sing her part live, then okay, we'll give it a shot."
Elvis goes to Miss Kitty White and explains to her the situation and asks if she's willing to sing her part of the duet during a live take.
I can't remember the exact quote but that's basically the gist of it.
@Seph Plays Thank you so very, very much for this! I knew this would be your next Elvis reaction but you still managed to surprise me with this one!
I won't spoil it for anyone but I definitely have my favorite parts of your reaction to this Elvis movie!
👏👏👏👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I 💖💖💖💖 💖 it 😍
I don't deserve such a nice comment! Im lost for words.
Im soooo soooooo happy you enjoyed it. It was alot of fun to watch the movie "True Banger" . And even more fun to edit it all together haha
Sammy the COOL a Pleasure as always! 😊
@@SephPlays I'm so glad you had so much fun with this one! The time and effort you put into your reactions is very evident, Seph, and is very much appreciated 💖
On another note: Please do continue to keep an open mind concerning other Elvis movies.
Also: At some point in the future I'd love to see you react to "The Odd Couple" with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon. A comedy film about a NYC bachelor who takes in one of his married poker buddies whose wife kicked him out. What ensues therein after is just comedic brilliance and acting at its finest.
I love your music (and Elvis of course) reactions don't get me wrong but you have a real knack for movie reactions as well 💕
@@sammy_the_uncool2702 I did not know they were singing live so good to know very interesting as always thank you Sammy brilliant love all your comments
@@maggieshome Thank you Maggie! Always nice to hear from you 💖
I'll add it to the film list :D
At the moment i have all the elvis films, Back to the future and The odd Couple of the list xD
Technical issues 😅
But I'm still going to listen to *Every* song! This train ain't gonna stop just because i got sidetracked! Haha
@@SephPlays Good to know. If you can't get them past copyright, maybe you could do a reaction where you just list them and let your viewers know what you thought of each one and if you ran across any bangers or double bangers. I don't know what you have left on your list, but this is what mine shows to complete '57:
One Night of Sin
Blueberry Hill
Have I Told You Lately That I Love You
Don't Leave Me Now
True Love
I Need You So
When It Rains, It Really Pours
That's When Your Heartaches Begin (the '57 version) It would be interesting to hear your comparison of the '54 version to the '57 version.
@@kathifielder1110 I've been waiting for "Don't" for such along time, sunday is my birthday... Kathi your comments are a joy to read. Kathi I would appriciate your thoughts about how to get around the copyright issues, it's being discussed in my comment "Last name spelled wrong, already 1958?"
@@robbansa Thanks for the compliment on my comments. I do tend to get carried away sometimes though. When it comes to copyright issues, I have zero knowledge. Sorry, but I wouldn't even know how to post a video on TH-cam. If you haven't seen the rehearsal version of "Don't", I highly recommend it: Elvis Presley - Don't (Rehearsal MGM Studios July 29, 1970) (2:48). Have a great day and a wonderful birthday on Sunday!
@@kathifielder1110 Of course I've seen Don't 1970 love it. I wish you would read the thread of my comment and give your opinion to the suggestions.
I heard he was hit with a real chair at first made home throw up something like that.
Omg in jailhouse rock!! You are right! He played the bad guy very very well. Maybe *Too* well 😯
I also like his films Kid Galahad, Charro!, Frankie and Johnny, and The Trouble with Girls. And I know they're a teen type of films but also enjoyed Clambake, Speedway, Spinout, Tickle Me, and Paradise Hawaiian Style
Jailhouse Rock is my favorite Elvis film
@@nenabunena I havent seen many of his films. But at the moment Jailhouse Rock is my favourite too :D
Imagine this he never sang King Creole after this, can you get your head around that?
Wait.... Seriously?
@@SephPlays I'm watching a crazy guy singing a Olivia song while watching a Elvis movie. Soo funny.
@@robbansa 😯 who?
@@SephPlays Either it's you or your brother, hard to tell.
@@robbansa 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So sad to see this movie all cut up and blurry like this. Its such a great movie. This is one of the few Elvis movies he liked...most he couldnt even watch. Please go watch the whole movie Seph. This cop chop blur stuff will ruin the real movie.
I wish you would read the replies ive been sending you on *All* your comments!!!
I did watch it all in full without a blur effect. I just need to blur out what *You* see other wise i get in big trouble with copyright!
For all of you who don't know, I have been reacting To Every single Elvis Presley song in chronological order!

I'm just kidding with with you
Last name spelled wrong, 1958 already?
I had sooooo much problems with copyright :/ but im going to go back and get them videos uploaded very soon. Ill just figure out a way around the copyright issues!
And thank you for pointing out the spelling mistake! I dont know what i would do without you to be honest. All my videos would have bad spelling 😅
@@SephPlays Maybe you could do the songs like you do the movies.
@@robbansa i dont know how well something like that would fly.
I could cut it and slice it up into highlights. Then talk about the song in detail after?
@@SephPlays It would work for me. I think almost everybody watching your elvisreactions knows the songs by heart. So what's really interesting is what you think and your reaction in highlights. If this is a way avoiding ytcopyright issues it's better than nothing. Try it and explain in the first video why and you could also paste an explanation in future comments. You could also leave a link for the original song, for those who like to hear that.
Gladys told his record in the movie that's a fake fake person
She knew because she seen him stealing if you stop talkin so much you would have noticed it
Just past the 15 minute mark and I can't stand it anymore!
@@SephPlays I'm sorry... Must have been having a bad day cause I usually keep my criticisms to myself even if I think they're constructive criticisms since written comments can easily be taken differently than they were intended. Obviously I enjoy your reactions overall or I wouldn't watch them. Been watching you for a while and this was the first time I didn't enjoy one of your reactions.
@@SephPlays I was raised on a time when criticism wasn't automatically viewed negatively. In my youth I considered criticism given in the right spirit to be of great benefit to me (when true) to improve myself. People don't see it that way any more and take them as an attack. You've reminded me to keep my thoughts to myself.
@@SephPlays For the record, I think your reactions are very creative, unique and entertaining. Keep up the good work.
You've been watching my videos on and off for 3 months now. In that time you must have noticed that i love to talk 😅
So heres my warning to you!
I talk sooooooooooooooo much through every Elvis song and film I've ever reacted to here on the channel. And i honestly will never change the way i do it. If you don't like the sound of this then pleaseeeee stop watching me! I would much rather you spend that time finding something else to watch that is better "Which isn't that hard lets face it haha"
I'm not saying this to be mean/rude im just trying to save you time 😔
