He runs a comedy show based around left wing biased news. Look for serious debate in non mainstream media left wing news. Despite that he's making fair points and calling out left cancel culture stuff, his show is made for 16-30yos to laugh at the GOP in the same way that Tucker Carlson controls the narrative when dunking in the most extreme libs. It's entertainment on both sides. Fox is mainstream in the same way that a show on comedy central is mainstream. They both have a demographic that they're tailoring ads sales too. Cenk on TYT regularly grills both sides of the aisle. Watch both sides of the convo and remove the cultural lense from your eye and actually digest the info and I think we'll be alright. Great interview on both sides and I think it's because they both removed the lense for 20 minutes

Can I selfishly ask that we have this exact interview style (and interviewer) for all presidential candidates? In watching these interviews that Trevor has done in this style, I find myself understanding and respecting the viewpoints of people that I disagree with. They problem is that if Crenshaw was a presidential candidate sitting across from Noah, I do not think it would have been as civil of a conversation. At least not on Noah's side of things. He would be trying to score points against Crenshaw and make him look as bad as possible, while trying to seem somewhat neutral. I was genuinely surprised that he could be this fair and balanced on this interview, after seeing the hyperbole that he spews on his show all the time about republicans.

@Michael Green I hate that I have to agree. He seemed unbelievably sensical and mild mannered when he first came to congress, his response to Pete Davidson was one of the classiest things I’ve ever seen (although in hindsight I do hope he wasn’t just overblowing the whole thing for political purposes). But since the political mess that was 2020 he just seemed like he devolved more and more into the swamp of “hurr the other side is maliciously destroying the country” that consumes modern politics, especially when he was talking to his base. You can’t be a class act in front of your opponents and then turn around and drag them through the mud to score political points when they don’t have a chance to respond (although tbh Trevor Noah can be guilty of this too), and while tbh I think Rep. Crenshaw would truly prefer to be a part of a better way of doing politics, he’s too concerned with his political future to reject his party’s worse impulses, which only pushes America closer to the brink, regardless of how nice he is in conversations like this.

    • @1963hardtop

I appreciate this response and comment. But please consider that that actions speak louder than words. Please check Crenshaw's voting record in congress. You might find his words hold less weight. Also, "have conversations about..." has very little value in real world social outcomes.

But today, one major political party comprises supporters of an insurrection and coup attempt and a president who would happily have made himself an autocrat with no respect for democracy. Common ground with the current GOP is not a thing to be sought until they denounce the big lie and condemn the insurrection attempt and their own ongoing attack on democracy (in the forms of gerrymandering and preparation for overturning election results through manipulation of local election boards).

Even if his views never develop into at least more moderate ones, I think his approach is refreshingly detached from the mudslinging I've seen in the past.
Maybe even one day he'll come to realize the truth about why the MSM and influencers like Obama slandered Trump from the moment he entered office, and continue to do so with every weak argument they can find. Most the of the jokes are set up or paid off by quotes or statements made by real people, showing how ridiculous their statements are. It takes a smart person to do that, and brighter people than news casters to write and put text through a comedic process to make it effective. In its nature, some people won’t find satire funny, it’s rooted in taking a side, but what most people won’t understand is that it’s also rooted in opportunities. If one side is giving a comedian pure gold, who are they not to use it as material. I’m pretty sure large statements like “Noah is barely a comedian, let alone knowledgeable about politics and history,” lack nuance, especially in the context of a video like this where there is nuance galore, but also doesn’t give him credit for what his actually is. A comedian. Sadly, a comedian that interviewed a politician better than most reporters on any side can. Comedy Central shouldn’t be a place trusted for news or information, and the fact that a satirical show like the Daily Show exists, speaks to the history and failures of the USA’s education system and our broadcast news channels.

I usually support Trevor in most his interviews. But this leans more towards being cordial, than being constructive. He said a few things that I would push him on:
The administration pushed school districts to teach critical race theory, when and how? White children are being told it's bad to be white (anecdotes are not massive educational policy changes). His framing of CRT in general. Aunt Jemima was offensive. Not that it's a hill to die on for me but why would he defend keeping that caricature?
His broad brush on immigration problems, and nothing changes on immigration until the boarder is secured to some undetermined level.
He brought up the fact the climate accord doesn't have teeth. Well he left out the part where his party would never allow the Obama administration to ratify an actual treaty.
Just because he's not foaming at the mouth doesn't mean he shouldn't get challenged. This boiled down to a book advertisement. 🙄

The EC is designed so that there is always a possibility the minority can have control and accounts for why a President can win the EC and lose the popular vote. His ideas/platform doesn't need to represent the majority just enough in certain places. So to an extent, we SHOULD rely on them, but not for Climate Change “decisions”. However we should rely on them to make progression in declining CO2 emissions. Trevor even said, the switch doesn’t happen over night. It is very possible to end carbon emissions without destroying the economy, but that only happens with years and years of innovation. Y’all may think that emissions are down under Biden because the admin has cut down on fracking and construction of pipelines, but the reality is that we are using the same amount of oil but purchasing it from the Middle East where it is basically unregulated all together. Fracking in the U.S. is regulated more, creating less world pollution. We need more civil convos where each person is actively listening to the other.
If it was on Russert, I think Crenshaw would have much more guarded & I appreciate the way Trevor opened the interview, in a way to disarm and have him put his guard down.
