Also, seems like a funny way to 'build up' Chief, having him so quickly go out of character, from his routine. And so rapidly showing his face, eliminating much build up to that. And then there's Mahkee...
That many elites attack a camp full of nobodies. Could have done it with grunts. Great way to downplay covenant right at the start.

I just found this on Apple TV+.. It's damn great. They even added the Wolf he seen in his vision to his Suit Armor..
