I love that you are branching out into heli videos now. Having just started the heli hobby myself as a supplement to my rc plane hobby, I now have a place to go for setup videos.
Thank you for spending the time to go through the TX setup on the 150 S Smart. I have a Blade Nano S2 that I downloaded the model setup from Spektrum's website as I had issues with the S2's manual instructions. I had the same problems with the 150 S manual, so I downloaded the Spektrum setup for it. I wasn't really too pleased with the downloaded file for the 150 S as the dual rates setup were sent to a different switch. After watching your video I will create my own heli setup for the 150 S using your video as a guide. I've been flying fixed wing on and off for about 30 years, the S2 and the 150 S are my first heli's. Thanks for the explanations and the warnings as well as the practical demonstrations. Great job!!

Awesome! The Sub250g was and is a huge deal, but I think HH and other a few other MFG'ers are going to make a good "Remote ID" apparatus OR the FAA will get tired of wasting time and resources on planes and helis, focusing just on DRONES. They need to just fix the classification of a UAS, and this would solve about 85%-90% of my problem with their requirements. Blade 360S is gonna be EPIC!!! Can't wait to do one myself!!!

21:18 : The bad visibility could be caused by the colours: mostly black blades and green canopy are not good at a small heli. To me, white and red are the best colours for a small heli. (the k110 is good, the k130 is bad at this, crashed the 130 a few times because of this). Anyway, nice video as always! Greetings from Germany.
Hi Brian, just watched you video again. Sorry if I've commented on this elelsewhere! Cyclic is pronounced as in bicycle or cycle not as in sickle or sick!😂 I've spent all my working life flying full scale helicopters.
dont know how missed this one, the blade 150 is my best ,i have the older jst plug one ..but i love taking it out and standing it up on end and flying around ....You wil love it too
Disney had a hirobo shuttle ride helicopter back in the early 80s. Movie was called the kids that new too much. Use to be a show in the late 80s with Warwick Davis from willow called the wizard that was cool. Lot of rc stuff for then. I still got my rc wheels vhs tape, hobby shack catalogs, byron originals magazines, and car action mags.lol
Welcome back aboard JonC!!! We just hosted a guy this weekend who brought out a few big kit built planes, and we flew them most of the day Saturday. We're all about trying to help get people BACK into the hobby, and try to get people up to speed if they're new to the hobby. These are two of our main focuses. There's a lot of details that most will gloss over, assuming people know all the details, but as I'm sure you're learning - there are so many cumulative things to know, and with a few years out of the hobby, and it can be pretty tough getting back up to speed without loads of help, even if you already know how to fly RC heli's / planes! Glad you're here with us! Welcome back!
For the batteries. Just buy connectors and change them. I fly all types of batteries. I have a plane I built. I found tattu 450 mah 45 c batteries for it and they are awesome jst. My original 150s flys on these as well. If you don’t care about telemetry just buy ic2 connectors and get other batteries and solder the ic2 connectors on. I did this with 800 mah 50c jst. I put ic2 connectors and if I want to use it on a jst model I just use adapter. But note the Spektrum smart charger will not charge a non smart pack.
Yes, for sure! This is always an option. I used to always use XT60's before I was using SMART batteries, which is kinda nice, since I can still ram an IC3 into an XT60 ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC lol. Yea I realized that works. I am setting up the albatross which is xt60. I just bought a no wire adapter to ic3. I’m like well if I jam it it works but I’ll just get the adapter. I’ve been slowly converting my jst stuff to ic2. It’s a noticeable difference. At least with 3s helis.
Hi Brian! Great instructive review as always! Shelf liner! BRILLIANT! I know you’re somewhat new to helicopters as am I, but it seems you’ve overlooked a popular horizon heli, the mCP X BL2. Is it simply that you haven’t gotten to it yet or is there a reason you decided not to try it or review it? Again, fantastic videos! Thanks for what you do!
Do not use trim on the radio to trim the heli ,, go in forward programing menu under the roll and pitch settings and trim it ..you need to auto configure the esc in the telemetry menu for all the battery info and step pole count to 6 for all the telemetry . you should se the smart icon on the radio display in the top left when telemetry is working properly
Its a different animal when you have your head speed set to 95 across the board in iu2… Also what kind of lipos you have for this helicopter really impacts the performance of it for instance I have some 75C packs that really wake this thing up
On the NX 8. Did you have to take out the main circuit board? On my NX10 the main circuit board takes up the whole radio. I have an orange metal roller I got from Hawks-RC. It looked good on my DX9 black edition. I was thinking about putting in on the NX10. I hope to fly as good as you do for a beginner. I do like your videos.
Sorry - to answer your question. I don't know...but I'd like to look into this too. If you're comfortable opening it up (which is not hard) then just give it a go...I took mine apart when I fixed a switch I broke dropping the NX8 off the counter (dooooohhhhhhh! - and it was switch A!!!!! Super necessary!)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I got the roller in, finally. If I had to do it again, I would not do it, maybe. If I had a proper work area, with good lighting I probably would. I had to take everything apart in the radio. It was a bear.
It’s easier to keep your finger on top of switch b to flip back to safe then it is to hit panic button. I’ve never used panic. I just go back into safe if I’m about to crash.
On the "Batman" controllers, the "Bind" trigger is easier to reach, and I think that's how they end up suggesting the "I" button, but I've always thought - that's maybe not the best place for it. Kinda depends on your control style too, since I use THUMBS, and not PINCER GRIP, I have a dis-advantage in that regard.
@@BrianPhillipsRC yea they have it perfect on those controllers. I think there’s some open source controllers out there similar. But I am a 2 finger flyer. Idk how y’all do it on thumbs. Lol. But even so. It’s waaaay easier to just keep my middle finger on the top of the switch ready to flip it down. For you would be pointer I guess. That might feel awkward.
I like seeing ya walk the dog in your back 40. I thought I seen where a whimsical little ferry had once lived to the right of Billy goat gruff bridge aginst the bank. Nice property though. Ya ought to see if yard max will give you a log splitter to review for that'll log pile. 🤣😂
I need a place to keep it dry, and a wood burning furnace that I can use to keep the house toasty for nothing more than sweat and tears, and some chainsaw lube ;)
Been following along doing everything you're doing so far, except I already tried this with the template, and know we need the bind plug! (at 1:07) so yelling at the computer, "BING PLUG BRIAN! USE THE BIND PLUG!" LOL also, The idea of moving away from the model when too close to bind, is a bit negated when you hold up the radio in the air for what, 'better reception'? ;) "camera crew" will read the instructions, as she's usually the voice of reason around that joint it seems lol Around 1:11, it does say in the instructions to hold the model upside down Kinda weird, but I'm still following along here... The big problem I was having, is my swashplate returns to center veerrry slowly after a control input is given, making it a BEAR to try n fly. at 1:26, kinda wish you had a closer shot of the swashplate movement. Update: Tony P from HH tech support says that's the way the swash plate's supposed to move is 'SAFE' mode.. My throttle wasn't doing anything until about 1/2 stick travel, was behaving really weird. NOW, Brian, it works perfectly. The long and short of all this is one thing. You're absolutely right. Do it yourself, and it works better, and I've now a little bit more understanding of how this junk works! Because when it was flying all weird, I now know, it was because I was using a TEMPLATE! As you say yourself in the start of this video, how it's better to do it yourself, you are totally on point man! On a sillier note, the batteries for these have been unavailable for quite some time now, so I'm using the 850Mah from my Infusion 180! Not doing any real flying though, just happy to see it hover under control for right now. Thanks again for your great videos, and thanks to "camera crew" for keeping everything in focus! And no, you're not alone in thinking you're being stabbed when ya put the body back on! That can smart sometimes! 1:20 or so, yeah, we got the same eye issues I guess, cuz I know exactly whatchya mean!
Glad you found my imperfect advice to work out in the end ;) We try hard to give good advice, but admittedly make a lot of errors, so thank you for understanding. I really love this hobby, and want others to grasp some of these entry level concepts as I've learned to understand them, but on heli's I still feel quite inferior, but not so inferior that I won't lend a helping hand as much as possible! You got the most important detail out of this video - use the tool, and DO IT YOURSELF - it's the most expensive RC tool you have, and it's way better to understand how it works, not only for best results, but for safety, longevity (opportunity) of aircraft, and maximum fun! I almost always better enjoy BNF's than RTF's, since I can get in and better understand how they're working. This helps me to be more confident in my control over this little flying "death machine" - LOL ;)
Hello Brian and Camera Crew! Great heli videos. I received my 150s smart a week ago and while binding it the manual states holding it upside down for 15 seconds. What's the scoop on that? Keep up the great work!
@@BrianPhillipsRC you are most likely correct on that. I have had no problems with mine. Just seemed odd, never had a heli require that. Thanks for all you and the camera crew do!
Another great video!!!!!!!! Of the 3 helicopters in the blade series that you have reviewed and flown which one would you recommend as a first helicopter? Don’t change anything about your videos, they are the best out there!!!!!!!!!!!
First helicopter if you want collective pitch, I'd personally recommend the Nano S3. It's inevitable there will be some crashing, so the lighter the bird, typically the less damage and parts cost you will burn through. I don't have the 330, but I do have the Nano S3, 150S, and 230S. Nano for learning but the 150S would be a close second. The benefits of the 150S over the 230S is that it has a better power to weight ratio, it's more reactive due to its lightweight (which you can over control but I find it helps correcting inputs), and its size is less intimidating and provides more locations to fly. In my opinion, the only downfall of the 150S to the 230S is size where the smaller the helicopter, the easier it is to lose orientation. I'm glad I'm not the only one that walks their helicopters. :)
@@Oni76 I second this completely. I have crashed my nano many times and never had to spend more than 10 bucks to get it back in the air. It’s basically a consequence free way to learn collective pitch helis, and is a super fun and impressive machine even when you know what you’re doing. The realism and durability they packed into that tiny helicopter never ceases to impress me.
If you're working through the ranks, like I am, I'd suggest the best fit for your flying site and budget, since they all three fly well. Bigger is scarier and more intimidating, but a whole lot easier to see. If you can't decide, start small and you'll be very happy. 330S bit.ly/3xeVAun 230S bit.ly/3s1ZzaZ 150S bit.ly/3pZQXBQ
Really appreciate your channel brother nicely done. I have big drones and little drones and I have big cars and little cars and have a little helicopter and looking to get a big one . I also want the Eflite jet that I train on the computer first. I am in Charleston SC and always finding nice places to test them out. You guys keep up the good work . I am hooked ✌️
I've watched you do the panic switch in different ways, if you select curve 1 that's the on state and you enter the data but if you hold the switch down on and off appear on curve 0, not sure if both ways are fine.
Hey Brian, could you do a video on how to do aerobatic maneuvers? There aren't too many videos that iv been able to find that go into what inputs are needed for certain maneuvers. I think it would be a good video to implement a stick cam
@BrianPhillipsRC we don't care if your not a pro. Seems like most "3d pros" how to videos are just people talking themselves up and not actually telling you how to make the aircraft maneuver. I'm hoping that learning from the transmitter perspective instead of just watching the plane and wondering what combination of controls will produce a trick. Just help with coordinating our hands for each maneuver I think would be a good foundation. Not only would it be good practice for the tx cam in your videos but also just good practice for own aerobatic skills! 👍
I watching your video's for a long time. And I have a DX7 Gen 2 and trying to set up a jet. With flaps and gear with Ar631 how do I do this. And do you have a video on it and witch one would i find it on thanks if you can help. PS. I'm a bennger. At this
Yes, should be no problem. Also, I think I noticed your comment on a few videos...not a problem, but I'm just BEHIND badly on comments...so I apologize.
Hello Brian ... what are your both "attitude trim" values ... in Safe Mode? Can be changed in Forward Programming ... for the leveling of the Blade 150S Smart swashplate. Thank you very much!
In Safe Mode ... both values should be set to “0“ ... This means an absolute horizontal swashplate leveling and no drifting at lift off ... in Safe Mode.
Hi Brain I want to put a lot of scale detail inside cockpit of fms 1400 pitts v2 what be best to do. I'm thinking go under hatch cut around foam edge put detail in then glue back on. Or do I un pick the clear plastic put detail in then glue it back on if you want put detail in cockpit what would you do
@@BrianPhillipsRC yes you can ...raise the derivative to 65% thats what i was told to do. At one point my copter became un flyable because of the tail wag. But that fixed it. Let me know if that worked for you.
mine was doing that and it ended up being a bad ground wire on my rudder channel,,,re solderd it and bingo but i did turn up the tail gain some after that but my radio is first gen so might be way diff,,
Nice video, interesting. I have a blade 150s and I have not been able to program the safe mode, I have a spektrum DX8 G2 controller. Could you give me some information. Thanks
We did all the steps in this video. If your firmware isn't updated on the DX8 G2, you probably don't have FORWARD PROGRAMMING. Try that first, and let me know what you learn.
Camera crew does not want gloves she wants love. Warm that a** up. Just kidding my friend just kidding my friend nice go and I see you progressing greatly blame. Have a pick at some of my 150 videos all the way back to the OG150S. I love watching you you're so entertaining
bit.ly/3bZT0lv - This is the Rx used, but I can't tell if you CAN use a Satellite Rx or not. I'm sorry that I can't tell you for sure, but I would assume NOT.
Ok I need a little help. I bought new the 150S cause I have progressed to this so far even though my real go to is planes. I just needed something for when I didn't feel like packing everything for the field. My problem is this. I followed EXACTLY what you're set up is which is by the manual. Which I followed also twice. I literally erased the model and started over then followed you. The heli will not lift and it the blades seem to be going backwards but I know that's not it. The air or thrust is flowing up not down. Now like I said my strength is not Helis. So more than likely its something dumb I'm doing but PLEASE any help from ANYONE would GREATLY appreciated.
If your motor is moving BACKWARD, please double, and triple check, then if so, you can swap any of the three leads from the ESC to the Motor...BUT ONLY IF IT'S GOING BACKWARD Blades should be spinning CLOCKWISE viewed from ABOVE the heli. If the motor is rotating the correct direction, then you might need to check ONE or MORE of the servos aren't installed as REVERSE SERVOS. I doubt this is the case, but you need to be careful to get this all right. Might want to talk to Horizon Hobby about this one.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Yes the motor is going in the correct direction. And yes I reversed the throttle and yea almost took me out.😳..lol..heli is good though no damage. The thing that is weird is the pitch is moving correctly in relation to the throttle ( negative to positive pitch in correct direction) when I have hold on and looking at the blades. Swash plate is even and servos are centered. Guess I'll have to call Horizon🙄..Thanks Brian. These are heli's are a pain in the butt. I like my planes better.
Yo Brian, I have a question for you, if I get this aircraft, which is BNF should I be able to use the DXS radio that came prebound to my RTF 230s with it assuming I rebind the radio to this?
@@BrianPhillipsRC Addicted? I was flying rc helis since I was in like elementary school. The first thing I ever had was a little 2 ch Airhog that I got at my dad's Christmas work party.
That's the most animated iv seen you Brian. Looks like you had fun. I have the 150s also and I love it.
It was very fun!
Love it Brian, You keep on my friend using your shelf liner. By the way I wish I would have thought of that years ago. As always great and fun video.
Not my original idea, but I'm glad to share the tip. Some people LOVE velcro, and this gets under their skin - LOL ;)
You could use a black sharpie,to color the shelf liner
Would you recommend this over the 230s for a first cp heli? Also what's the biggest battery you can put in there to maximize flight time?
Cool review as usual! Enjoyed my 230s V2 so if this flys anything like that one, then its well worth a look. Cool tour too!
Thanks! We need to do a nature walk to the back creek sometime ;)
At least with 3s helis.
i did that too,,she will do good on it and i was still hardly able to fit the canopy on but way fun for sure
Thanks again for the review and radio setup still learning the nx8 .
Glad you enjoyed it!
Got 9 flights in today no crash ; )
I haven't gotten to it yet, not so much over-looked. Thanks brohoop!
@@BrianPhillipsRC can’t wait to watch your review!
He needs to get the bl2!
Its a different animal when you have your head speed set to 95 across the board in iu2… Also what kind of lipos you have for this helicopter really impacts the performance of it for instance I have some 75C packs that really wake this thing up
I need to try this, and agree 75C packs would be sweet!
I just got the blade 150s,also the nx6, and the radiomaster tx16,I think I should have gotten the nx 8,just got the nx8,now I want to get the ix12
No dude you are so cool flying the heli😊
Nice flips. I'm at that level. Great vid. We walk our drones 🤣
NICE!
Thank you Megan love the Chanel and Brian is nuts
She is the best!
Sweet! I want to know, and don't know, but your comment makes me want to find out!
TRUE!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC oh you will love wood heat man. You won't like the insurance though. 😒
Been following along doing everything you're doing so far, except I already tried this with the template, and know we need the bind plug! (at 1:07) so yelling at the computer, "BING PLUG BRIAN! USE THE BIND PLUG!" LOL also, The idea of moving away from the model when too close to bind, is a bit negated when you hold up the radio in the air for what, 'better reception'? ;) "camera crew" will read the instructions, as she's usually the voice of reason around that joint it seems lol
Around 1:11, it does say in the instructions to hold the model upside down Kinda weird, but I'm still following along here...
WOW - I never did that at all!?!?!? Thanks for reading it for me ;)
Maybe this is to setup the AS3X / SAFE ???

230S bit.ly/3s1ZzaZ

Really appreciate your channel brother nicely done. I have big drones and little drones and I have big cars and little cars and have a little helicopter and looking to get a big one . I also want the Eflite jet that I train on the computer first. I am in Charleston SC and always finding nice places to test them out. You guys keep up the good work . I am hooked ✌️
Thanks!!! Glad you're enjoying the content!
I've watched you do the panic switch in different ways, if you select curve 1 that's the on state and you enter the data but if you hold the switch down on and off appear on curve 0, not sure if both ways are fine.
I will play with this some more off camera and see if I can get mine to work as expected. Thanks Mark!
is this a good heli to learn with thx mark.
Fog of death!!! Let’s do it!!
Exactly! ;)
hi thanks i really enjoy your videos😀
Can you do a review on the Nano S3?
This guys vibes are epic
Thanks Josiah!
..great flying Brian :)
thanks!
The green looks great
I agree.
Hey Brian, could you do a video on how to do aerobatic maneuvers? There aren't too many videos that iv been able to find that go into what inputs are needed for certain maneuvers. I think it would be a good video to implement a stick cam
I can share what I know, but I'm still VERY green on heli 3D.
When we film another heli video, I can try ;)
@BrianPhillipsRC we don't care if your not a pro. Seems like most "3d pros" how to videos are just people talking themselves up and not actually telling you how to make the aircraft maneuver. I'm hoping that learning from the transmitter perspective instead of just watching the plane and wondering what combination of controls will produce a trick. Just help with coordinating our hands for each maneuver I think would be a good foundation. Not only would it be good practice for the tx cam in your videos but also just good practice for own aerobatic skills! 👍
@BrianPhillipsRC also ment this more for the airplanes.. I'll never be able to do tricks with helis...
Good flying man it definitely takes practice
For sure! Getting better every time...and it's worth it!
I have the same blade 150s with a green monster energy speed fuselage :) i love it :)
COOL!
Great video just bought one and subscribed!!! 😎
Welcome aboard! And Thanks!!!
I never changed them???
Stock setup...Did you adjust them? I can't remember even going into Forward Programming...
Guess I did -
Roll: 432
Pitch: -64
I just flew it around the living room, it was super fun!
Or do I un pick the clear plastic put detail in then glue it back on if you want put detail in cockpit what would you do
Be real careful. The Windscreens CAN be a bit of a structural member. Can you reach if you pull off the wing?
I go under canapy wings screw on you must fortgot setting up Pitts lol thanks for tip with screen
i own one of these im a beginner with helilies its a fun copter needed Horizon to fix a problem with it but its great. the tail wag was the issue
I think that's a bit disappointing too (tail waggle), but might be an adjustment I can make?
@@BrianPhillipsRC yes you can ...raise the derivative to 65% thats what i was told to do. At one point my copter became un flyable because of the tail wag. But that fixed it. Let me know if that worked for you.
mine was doing that and it ended up being a bad ground wire on my rudder channel,,,re solderd it and bingo but i did turn up the tail gain some after that but my radio is first gen so might be way diff,,
I still have the Blade CX2 no auto nothin. Hard as heck to fly.
Yep - it was auto-crash ;)
Great job Brian 👍😎😁
Thanks Todd!
Just purchased this heli using your affiliate link. Thanks and publish more heli videos! 👍🏻😎
Thanks! Heli stuff coming soon ;)
Camera crew does not want gloves she wants love. Warm that a** up. Just kidding my friend just kidding my friend nice go and I see you progressing greatly blame. Have a pick at some of my 150 videos all the way back to the OG150S. I love watching you you're so entertaining
Thank you! Gald you're here with us!!!
i like to fly Helis, Helis first rc I learned to fly
Good!
Peut on branche un micro récepteur satélite sur cet helico ?
Ou somme nous obliger d’avoir une radio Spectrum pour avoir cette helico ?
bit.ly/3bZT0lv - This is the Rx used, but I can't tell if you CAN use a Satellite Rx or not. I'm sorry that I can't tell you for sure, but I would assume NOT.
Thank you for the review!
You're welcome!
very cool Brian
agreed!
Pretty dang cool helicopter 🔥👍✌️
I think so too. Love this heli. Small but super capable!
Do you have a link to the battery and adapter so I can charge it on my S2100? Thanks
Very nice Video thank you for all the information
you can update the dx6e
yes
Do you have a video of how to setup a 450 v2 clone heli to DX9 Tx and a AR630 Rx? T Y
Hi Brian would this be a good help to learn on thx mark from the uk
Glad we could help! Thanks Mark!
If your motor is moving BACKWARD, please double, and triple check, then if so, you can swap any of the three leads from the ESC to the Motor...BUT ONLY IF IT'S GOING BACKWARD
Blades should be spinning CLOCKWISE viewed from ABOVE the heli.
I know this video is a year old . But would know if the 150s can be bond to a futaba 16IZ radio thank you
What's the link to you home school channel?

Please do a video on charges and batteries
Yo Brian, I have a question for you, if I get this aircraft, which is BNF should I be able to use the DXS radio that came prebound to my RTF 230s with it assuming I rebind the radio to this?
You CAN, but I would HIGHLY-HIGHLY recommend the NX8 (minimum) if you're already addicted ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Addicted? I was flying rc helis since I was in like elementary school. The first thing I ever had was a little 2 ch Airhog that I got at my dad's Christmas work party. I had a few more toy helis after that. My first hobby grade heli, depending on your definition of hobby grade, was either the blade CX scout, the WLtoys v911, or the XK K100, though both of the K100s I had did not last very long. Then I got a Nano S3, which has been rebuilt, but heaven forbid, the new swash I got for it is defective and so the thing won't fly right anymore. I have a 230s, a 150s, and I just ordered an OMP hobby M1.
have a s200 airsport Helicoptor that i can't stop it from raising. can you tell me what is wrong?
I'm really sorry, but I can't say I'm familiar with that model, a BUNCH show up in that name, so I don't want to mislead you with a total shot in the dark.
I have a dsmx dx6i and cannot figure out how to set this up?
Swash type, ccpm120 or 1s90?
And the servo movement seems messed up any ideas?
If you can't make the association to the NX8, which admittedly, can be challenging at times, you can also download a template to get started.
Of course, it will be on the PC and then you'd load it onto the memory card on your tx.
Thank you Brian!
Ty
yes?
@@BrianPhillipsRC I just say ty for the videos to show my appreciation by interacting for your youtube statistics
Do they not sell that smart battery anymore?
I heard they don’t due to a manufacturer issue.
