Also the reason why you gotta remove your battery and use charger power when using it in your home. Can't power down quickly by removing the battery or powering down from the button. If you use charger power, you just yeet the cable out and you're good.

If they're worth their word on their expertise, they can give it a bit further chance of survival if they can come to you or it can be brought to them (remember to keep it upside down if possible) quickly after this. If they tell you "There's nothing they can do." Never call them again. Because they don't know WTF they are doing. Because the trick that would help is the most basic emergency trick in the book for this, but does require part knowledge and disassembly/assembly and any tech will have what they need for it on hand at all times.

The ribbon cables that are connected from the keyboard to the screen is damaged and will no longer work until you pry open the laptop, find the ribbon cables, dry them (with a cool hairdryer for 3 minutes) and then restart the computer. And the really horrible sound was either coming from the fan bay, (which water was whirring with the fan) or the hard-drive. (also water whirring with the HDD)

@MJM TV It depends on the generation of CPU. The one shown in the video, yeah that i3 is terrible since it appears to be 2nd/3rd gen intel. However newer i3's/i5's can crush older i7s, especially 8th generation+ since that's when intel stopped selling dual core i5s and i7s in ultrabooks and standard home laptops.

Spilled an entire cup of black coffee on my Acer Predator the touchpad and the keyboard were drowned in that coffee. Before I could panic and go crazy I disconnected it from power, shut it down, turned it upside down, and cleaned it with a lot of paper towels. The entire surface was sticky so I had to clean it with hand sanitizer. Kept it inverted for 24 hours and used a vacuum cleaner to try and pull out the liquid. I did press the power button accidentally a couple of times while cleaning, the laptop was on less than 10% battery anyway. After 24 hours and after a lot of prayers the laptop did turn on and I stared at the screen fearing it would turn off instantly, checked the keys, all worked fine. Albeit, the spacebar got a little sticky, which I think can be fixed. I know I turned on my laptop too soon but I couldn't resist and had a gut feeling that I had done the right thing while cleaning.

Tap water doesn't conduct enough current at 12 volts to create a hard short (it won't blow up your battery). You have no idea how ridiculous you look when you wear safety goggles for something like pouring water on your laptop. As for that arcing sound I heard, I think that was the water finally getting to the backlight power supply (which outputs about 1000 to 2000 volts of high frequency AC to ionize the gas in the cold cathode fluorescent tubes). It arced to the water and from the water too low voltage components, which fried the rest of the motherboard (including the low voltage backlight control circuits). This stopped low voltage power from getting to the high voltage backlight power supply, and that in turn caused your monitor to go off. Also with the rest of the mother board likely fried from the high voltage, your entire computer will no longer function.

Get your self a Lenovo thinkpad. I’ve had my X200s since 2008 has gone thru hell, with drops, spills, everything you name it, and still works perfectly fine. I refuse to retire my laptop. It’s been with me in high school, college, and grad school. I’ve spilled wine, soda, coffee, rubbing alcohol lol and I’ve only had to replace the battery once.

I turned it on shortly after the spill to check every single key and they all worked. I am hoping overnight it will dry some more and it will be fine.

@@luxx2273 if youve got an external battery you need to take it out, if you dont you need to take off the back panel and then unplug the battery. Then you need to take apart the entire pc and airdry them for ~a day Then you can put it back together (provided it's bone dry) then it should work fine. If the spark shorted any of the components a pc repair shop should be able to find out which componentd shorted out and order replacements for you.

I didn't take it to any shop to repair. I don't know how deep the water has reached in your case so it may or may not work for you.

Tap water doesn't conduct enough current at 12 volts to create a hard short (it won't blow up your battery). You have no idea how ridiculous you look when you wear safety goggles for something like pouring water on your laptop.
As for that arcing sound I heard, I think that was the water finally getting to the backlight power supply (which outputs about 1000 to 2000 volts of high frequency AC to ionize the gas in the cold cathode fluorescent tubes). It arced to the water and from the water too low voltage components, which fried the rest of the motherboard (including the low voltage backlight control circuits). This stopped low voltage power from getting to the high voltage backlight power supply, and that in turn caused your monitor to go off. Also with the rest of the mother board likely fried from the high voltage, your entire computer will no longer function.

I just spilled hot tea on my laptop, i'd say around 400ML, and it shut off immediatly. I unplugged everything, held the laptop sideways so anything that was inside the laptop got out, wrapped a towel around it to dry the outside as fast as possible, and now i'm holding it open for 1-2 days and i'm praying it still works. I spilled soda on my hp laptop. I didn’t know what to do at first, I find paint brush that can go to the keyboards and try to get the liquids to it and use dry towel. I just turn it down so the liquids can go down. When I research it tells me to shut down first the laptop coz it’s liquid and electronics u know. Get your self a Lenovo thinkpad. I’ve had my X200s since 2008 has gone thru hell, with drops, spills, everything you name it, and still works perfectly fine. I refuse to retire my laptop. It’s been with me in high school, college, and grad school. I’ve spilled wine, soda, coffee, rubbing alcohol lol and I’ve only had to replace the battery once.
Interesting! I just came to this video now because I accidentally spilled about half a glass of water on my laptop (Lenovo ideapad). I used my hairdryer and a towel and it seems fine. I turned it on shortly after the spill to check every single key and they all worked. I am hoping overnight it will dry some more and it will be fine.

If you spill water on your laptop, turn it off IMMIDIATELY, then open it and unplug the battery as quickly as possible, while wearing safety gloves
After this, there is no risk of shorting if it hasnt happened already, next step is to take apart the ENTIRE laptop and let the parts air dry for a couple of days.

@@luxx2273 if youve got an external battery you need to take it out, if you dont you need to take off the back panel and then unplug the battery.
Then you need to take apart the entire pc and airdry them for ~a day
Then you can put it back together (provided it's bone dry) then it should work fine.
If the spark shorted any of the components a pc repair shop should be able to find out which componentd shorted out and order replacements for you.

i am here not because my laptop is broken, i am here because i am just curious what will my laptop look like if it was wet, guys the first thing u gotta do is u need to drain ur laptop, u may hang it or turn in upside down u need to take all of the water out as possible, and next thing u do is bring it to the nearest laptop repair shop in your place, just like if a person had an accident, he will be responded quickly and be rush to the hospital, in this case its also just the same to our electronics.

I didn't take it to any shop to repair. I don't know how deep the water has reached in your case so it may or may not work for you.
