im a freshman trombonist and my jaw literally dropped the first time i heard that guy play, trombone shorty will always have a special place in my heart
Just as a bit of suggestions for fans, Glenn Pine from the Slackers (Trad Ska band) is an AMAZING trombone player and singer. Love a lot of his sass on the horn. Vinny Noble from the Pilfers/Bim Skala Bim is also just incredible
Have you not seen the HS (correction: College) band trombone solo in the bleachers video? Now THAT is Sassy! (William Bilal of Benedict College Leads “Black & Blues”)
Trombone player here. Either works, we get that good at reading ledger lines at that range that it doesn’t really matter. 8va would be a whole lot easier to notate though!
some people don’t like trombone shorty cuz he isn’t a “jazz trombonist” however no one has inspired me for my sound on trombone like he has. how many other guys just rip through the instrument like this? sure it’s not that jazzy or technical per say, but playing with that level of passion and spice is how you get noticed!
Man I don't know how that tenor sax player just stands there looking emotionless like nothing is happening. Even if I played in Trombone Shorty's band hearing him play every night my face still would be stanking into another dimension at that solo break. Everyone shows their emotions differently of course, but I can't comprehend that lol
Been to 3 of his concerts in the mid 2010s. easily the best and most fun performance I've been too. Seeing shorty in a small music club with 80 people and sitting front row will be a memory I cherish forever, you can feel his talent.
THE FACT THAT YOU DID ONE FOR THIS PERFORMANCE TOUCHES A SOFT SPOT IN MY HEART BC I DOWNLOADED THIS RECORDING AND BUMPED TO IT AGES AGO AND IT’S GETTING MORE LOVE!! 💛
I'm not sure this transcription is quite right, I can't tell exactly without pulling out my trombone but I think he's playing at least a partial higher than the transcription???
With those double and triple tonguings, I bet it takes him no time to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.
This needs more licks… I mean likes lol
i was thinking you would go down a dirtier path with that licking joke... but i guess that didn't cross her, i mean, your lips....
id say its flutter tonguing
@@aids_x1645 i think it's too clean to be flutter tonguing, i could be wrong tho
Man at this point he probably could invent quadruple tunging
I didn't know this was Trombone Shorty, until I heard him play. He's got such a distinct sound and style.
Same
I didn't know it was him either until he started doing 0:56!
He has a constant slight growl.
U can tell from the thumbnail bc other players dont puff cheeks like him
HE'S SO GOOD!!!! I saw him live at a festival like 10 years ago and he sounded exactly like this the whole time, absolute legend
the bass carried the groove so hard
Bass Clef*
@@jmzt3187 what
He wasn’t in the pocket, he was the pocket
@@carpinchipedia7009 because george finally transcribed trombone is bass clef
@@jmzt3187 it’s a baritone trombone tho. Same clef, different range.
Nothin' like some fully automatic trombone @0:58 🤘
im a freshman trombonist and my jaw literally dropped the first time i heard that guy play, trombone shorty will always have a special place in my heart
Ayo same, just got done with marching season
isnt he playing an octave higher or am I going insane
yeah no he is
He's playing an octave higher
he is
Yep. This is in that rare “bass clef up an octave” clef.
8va
laugh all you want, but the adult voices from Peanuts are spitting bars
LOL 😂
Let's be honest, that bass is carrying so hard
Just as a bit of suggestions for fans, Glenn Pine from the Slackers (Trad Ska band) is an AMAZING trombone player and singer. Love a lot of his sass on the horn. Vinny Noble from the Pilfers/Bim Skala Bim is also just incredible
More ska recommendations please
The real pro tip is always in the comments.
I had never heard before of Trombone Shorty, thank you so much for introducing us to amazing musicians some of us would never heard about another way!
He’s amazing.
If Trombone Shorty ever comes through your town, you do NOT want to miss it.
I like how the titles of these videos are so accurate, theres no other way to describe this other than wet
Never was a sassier solo! The 8va notation makes my body feel funny though.
I love when you show the trombones love broooo omg he sounds so good
Love your work George, and thanks for the chords as well!
Have you not seen the HS (correction: College) band trombone solo in the bleachers video? Now THAT is Sassy!

He transcribed that one too!
@@merify3391 i forgot to look and my memory is terrible. Thanks.

Killer stuff right there, great chops! 👍
No better duo than George Collier and trombone players arguing about whether to do 8va or ledger lines
As long as it’s in bass I’m happy
Trombone player here. Either works, we get that good at reading ledger lines at that range that it doesn’t really matter. 8va would be a whole lot easier to notate though!
That trombone sounds very angry. I swear it just asked me for a fight.....
You betta make that instrument talk... 🎵🎶💃🏽🎵🎶💃🏽😍❤🌷😎

Not pictured: an entire trumpet section glaring angrily from the audience

This song and this solo have a special place in the nasty trombone hall of fame.
Epic Sax Guy (probably): Finally! A worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!
As a fellow trombone player I have no clue how he does some of that stuff
Homie on the bass was carrying so hard, this was crazy.
This world needs more trombone 🥰
0:11 best part damn
All I need is that first 4 bars!
Hot Sauce!
Trombone Shorty throwin it down like a rhythm guitarist would: feel and power.
The feels like something that would played in a casino or something.
Can't believe the man literally turned into an anti-aircraft gun there.
Trombone Shorty is just so good man!
You know, I'm not the biggest fan of Shorty, but it looks fun as hell to transcribe
Instantly got goosebumps
You know a man means business when he's dressed like Franklin from GTA V
Im straight drenched.

That's so sick.
I just saw him live it was LIFE CHANGING
Now that's how a trombone should sound.
My dude been holding it down since McDonogh 15 and Gregory
As a trombone player turned bass player, trombone shorty will forever be my musical wet dream lol
First bar "Beams of fire sweep through my head"
That guy was born with a Trombone in his hand.
The solo sounds like my car alarm in panic mode
This guy is legend😮
That's a mean ass trombone!
THERE HE IS THE ONE AND ONLY TROMBONE SHORTY

You're right. That's quite sassy lol
I knew it would be trombone shorty when I saw the title:D
it could have been the ONLY ONE trombone shorty
Dude can blow.
id more call this a duet
can confirm it is an octave higher than is transcribed! Wish I could play that high that effortlessly smh
I thought the caption was the SADDEST solo, not SASSIEST😂😂😂
quitting music; this guy won.
did i miss an "8va" in the beging or is it just written an octave to low?
it's on the clef so you don't have to read all ledger lines lol but yes it is an octave up
Trombone in the skyyyyyyyy!
If the sound guy hadn't muted that mic, the queen would still be alive today.
man has the phattest bell i've ever seen
now
this
this is the sound of brass
commence the funk
Trombone Shorty is about as hip as a brass player can possibly be.
I liked that Ab buzz note, but I would I would have _really_ like if there had been one more on the Bbb.
I need that bassline...
This guy is insane😂😂

I'm not sure this transcription is quite right, I can't tell exactly without pulling out my trombone but I think he's playing at least a partial higher than the transcription???
An octave higher actually
That key signature is giving me anxiety as a tenor sax player.😬
Oh it's wet alright
Jesus Christ it's Jason Bourne!
Yea except the whole thing is UP AN OCTAVE GEORGE come onnn respect your fellow tbn subs🫡❤️
i think the bass clef being at the top of the staff indicates that it’s an octave up
