It may not be everyone's cup of tea to lead, but for those who do, she's an inspiration. And I agree, having been fired once, it changes your perception and makes you a better leader.
She just gained a fan, I think she's strong and determined. Most people admire/need those quality to get more things done but are too fearful, so they react in all sorts of ways, which is in effect a response to their inner turmoil. Go Anna!
She is another case of people with inherited money and connections claiming they worked their way up. A poor person doing that is a success story, her claiming that is just and insult to hard working women.
completely agree. if i brought a resume like that to an interview, i would not get hired anywhere. i'd even hazard a guess that a fair bit of her lauded success is due to chance. the fact that the "empire" she supposedly built is dying a slow protracted death is evidence of her skill or lack thereof.
No it is not. Many people have money and connections, not everyone makes it big like she did. Does it make it easier? Yes. But not everyone can do it. Barely anyone can do it. Don't knock her success and her journey
For me I think it's just disingenuous. Like I can totally ignorant that any success that I ever get is because of my dad and how he supported me with his money. There's no doubt about that and me working hard doesn't I have anything to do with that. I think everybody should have that opportunity to have their school paid for and not have loans and things like that. And to me this means it's an opportunity to talk about how everybody should have more opportunities instead she chooses to make it about her insecurities and trying to act like she didn't have as much opportunity as she did. This to me shows that she's just really insecure and I can have empathy for that because I know that I'm secure enough in myself that I can speak out about it and my dad have any money that helps me go to school doesn't take away from my heart work either. To me it's an opportunity to talk about how we all need each other and how nothing is created by one person only. That drives me nuts about Facebook because Mark Zuckerberg acts like he did it all on his own and you really didn't he's just a rich kid that also had a lot of opportunities. I think everybody should have as many opportunities as me and I think it's so fucked up how other people want to push other people down I think this need to be better than other people is actually a weakness.
The video didn't mention how smooth and catering she is towards influential celebrities and rich clients. I read she'd carefully craft guests' lists and precedence on Met Gala. She does not easily offend any of them like she'd do to some of her employees or less influential people - that's one of her key recipe for success.
I think it's humbling because we can all realize that we only get good at what we spend time doing and we can't spend our time doing one thing only if we want to be well-rounded. But if we choose to be possibly the best in the world at something then you probably need to put all of your time into that and then other things aren't as good. For me I think we should probably make it okay for people to not have kids because maybe some people would just be better working and not having kids? And why shouldn't that be okay for them to do without being put down? Like Steve Jobs is another person that I can appreciate and learn from some things that he did but overall as a person I wouldn't call him a role model because he was actually a horrible human being and you can learn more about what not to do and how not to treat people from him than anything. I just finished the book his daughter Lisa Brennan jobs roach and it's so sad how he treated her. But she turned out to be an amazing person and she took every opportunity that she did have in life and did the best you could with it which is what I know judge people for. I judge people for how they spend their time and energy, how they treat other people and how they choose to build businesses. I think we can learn to have empathy while also doing these other things in life. We really only get good at the things that we prioritize but for some reason we want to think that we can do more. That's just our ego, and our ego is wrong because we really need to sleep and eat and take care of ourselves or we die.
So she had no credentials no proof whatsoever of being in college yet she got jobs after her interviews.. Sounds like she had dad make calls prior to interviews
Whether or not she's been given breaks in life, she wouldn't be where she is if she were good or competent at her job. Nepotism can only do so much. If she was not skilled, Vogue and Conde Nast wouldn't exist.
She wears a wig...wears glasses to hide her dark circles...wears unusual style to draw attention to herself to feed her ego. I've never read a Vogue in my life. I don't buy a magazine to page past the hundreds of fashion ads to get to the one story buried between slouching models wearing haute couture and a hand with a Cartier watch worn cattywappus because it might be clever. One has to care about the mag to care about the editor...even then most people don't give a crap. Anna Wintour wanted to be famous but really had no talent, apparently, except to organize pages of ads, pictures, and a little bit of copy. She stood on the shoulders of others. If I made a bucket list of publications I would want to be published in, Vogue wouldn't be one of them. P.S. Fashion is whatever you are wearing on any given day, be it something one of a kind or from the thrift store. We wear the clothes not the price tags.
This leaves out two really crucial controversies: Wintour pushing fur in fashion and generally being very public about fat shaming. Both of these bled over into fashion getting a really bad name.
I think Anna is a master. She has incredible knowledge & expertise regarding the fashion industry. She takes risks, not all risks work out. She has been around forever for a reason.

I wish they would make the September issue movie every year when they do the September issue. I loved the behind the scenes of the film and would love to see more!
I'm actually glad that I watched this video, of course I viewed her as the Miranda Prestly character in the devil wears Prada movie as most people probably do since the movies release. But she is much more than that . I admire her strength and how she set to change fashion with ideas that were particularly well liked with some fails and some wins. She is an innovator and self made fashion icon who has been able to hold on to the title for quite a while now ✨️
From her weird, forced smile to her oddly outdated hairstyle to those glasses that she won't take off, she's pretty creepy. I wish Meryl Streep's Anna Wintour was the real Anna WIntour lol. She was much more elegant.
I agree she could do with a better haircut but she does have style -- very feminine -- with Meryl Streep you had to suspend belief and for the sake of the plot accept it as reality that she had good taste and could wear her clothes well but it was hard because as good an actress as she is, and try as the wardrobe and make-up artists did in that movie, she didn't have the style of Anna Wintour
Grace Coddington uses couture and creates dreams and fantasies, and Anna packages those dreams and sells them to the masses. They are the heart and the head of Vogue, respectively, and they do their jobs to excellence. They are the cream of their respective fields, and rightfully so. Anna probably hates "The Devil Wears Prada" because it hits too close to home, no matter how hard she'd like to think otherwise. She's extremely self-absorbed, and has been for a VERY long time. Andre Leon Talley knew this, too, so it's funny to see him crying foul, now that he's been expunged from her inner circle. He had one hell of a ride for 40+ years, though.
I like her management style. She is direct. Her confidence in what she believes requires those around her to buy into her vision. If they are going to achieve that vision they must be a team. Thus no room for those who believe differently. They should be freed to pursue their vision elsewhere. Just my opinion.
thanks to her dad's advantages, a privileged girl becomes a cold business woman. nice story. she probably fired people for ridiculous reasons just to be feared.
Yeah probably. Firing people who work in a dying company is not a great idea. I mean, being incompetent in your job is not enough reason for someone to fir you right? They should have humanity and empathy to think about the family of the people who can't do their job in a publication going down the drain.
I've never met her, and that makes me happy. I have an inherent dislike for her, always have. I've worked for many strong women before, but this woman is just nasty, snide, and rude. It's so satisfying to hear of her 'oh so many' failures. Nuclear Winter (wintour) is a perfectly apt nickname.
She is a powerful woman and she has the power to change life on this planet for the better. She has the power to make a positive impact on how animals are used in materials for fashion....the use of non-animal fur for sustainability and non-cruelty. ☮☮☸☸
when someone like her comes into a job they have been moving forward to for her whole life she probably just brought along her own people to make it her own. Large corps do it all the time when they take over smaller companies.
She’s putting on a show. Often times when people are incredibly shy and worse, if you add anxiety to that, people are often seen as intimidating because they tend to not converse too much and are more so removed, this standing out. The fashion industry is very cutthroat, so it’s so if she ever wanted to survive, she’d have to put on a persona if she ever wanted to survive.
i wholeheartedly agree to this. anyone can have thousands of connection and still made nothing of themselves, as can someone has only 1 connection and made everything out of that connection.
Miri Ke because fashion, like modern art, is completely subjective bullshit, and there is absolutely no point to making it the focal point of your scholarship
Even though her wealth and contacts may have helped her be where she is now, her personality, fierceness, attitude, style... is what made her be who she is now. Most of the people won't be able to name the editor of Vogue Italia, Vogue Spain, Glamour, and others. But we do know hers.
It's interesting to me that she thought her knowledge in high fashion would translate to Home and Garden. A good example of what happens when you don't take the time to learn your audience. I wish you would have elaborated on how she negotiated her salary and Creative Director position with Vogue...
Total admiration & respect!! This woman is the real deal. The ability to manage the many multifaceted adversities shows her stamina & versatility. A class act.
I’m not saying this to be snippy... but that’s the point. Have you ever seen the documentary called “The September Issue”? Their spreads and the ads are all just so rich for the purpose of fashion as art. If you don’t think of fashion as art, you won’t care for Vogue. I personally don’t worship it, but that documentary shed so much light on the process, I had to respect it.
don don she is apparently blacklisted from the Mets. & Kim took Anna’s side and said khloe doesn’t love fashion the way her and Kourtney/jenners do. Either way it’s messed up. Anna also said khloe is a C list celebrity and “doesn’t deserve to be there as a c list”
I think she is great and hardworking. I admire her a lot, I like that she stick to what she likes, it shows she is someone who is firm and hardly ever go back on her word, which are rare qualities nowadays.
Daughter of.... for me that’s enought. Small studies ( she worried for that much later) and just money and connections. Nothing to admire from my perspective.
Diana Vreeland was warm and creative person and full of effervescence as a former Vogue editor. Not a cold person. Vreeland chose Mirabelle (sp?) as her successor. I really miss the pre-wintour vogue.
She knows what she wants and works hard for it! She has been denied many times but never gave up and now she is on top of the fashion world. Congrats queen! Money may have helped her a little but for those who want to become something great, having no money is no excuse.
So, pretty much, she’s failed more than she’s succeeded and she needed a public relations tour to keep her position. This is what people fawn over? How lovely.
That's normal behavior for many successful people to be fair. They don't get where they want to go by pleasing others (except for people who can help them).
I guess you could say Thomas Edison failed more than he succeeded then. Considering it took him 100 times to invent the light bulb but sure keep that line of thinking and I’m sure you’ll succeed every single time right?
One time I said to Anna (during NYFW) that one day I was going to be her. She looked at me very annoyed and said ; YEAH RIGHT 😆 I still love and admire her.
She is one definitive example of one tough lady that's found success, suffered failures and come out stronger. My mother was such a woman. This is to be admired in America and anywhere else in the world.

Admiration. She's shown that your gender isn't tied to your success. I don't care what you wear. She deserves kudos. People like her are paving the way to equality in the workplace.
Go Anna!
Right!!!!!
Rich, well connected and cold hearted.... is her recipe for success. It’s ain’t for me thanx

@@ninaschn5924 Please. She's cold hearted.
It's for me lol. I'm only concerned with myself
She moved to a country where no one knew her, not many connections there
just because she was born rich doesn't mean she doesn't actually work. That's an unfair statement
I think everybody should have as many opportunities as me and I think it's so fucked up how other people want to push other people down I think this need to be better than other people is actually a weakness.
so she destroyed HG and then bounced to Vogue lol
Jillian Trujillo usually it’s men who fail up, weird.
that's what I was thinking

You can also be warm hearted and a nice person and still be successful too. Some people i suppose just find it easier doing it her way.
The video didn't mention how smooth and catering she is towards influential celebrities and rich clients. I read she'd carefully craft guests' lists and precedence on Met Gala. She does not easily offend any of them like she'd do to some of her employees or less influential people - that's one of her key recipe for success.
she might be successful, but I personally wouldn't call her a role model.
Why?
Because of her personality I guess. I mean she fired people so easily. But anyway, that's just my personal opinion.
@@FidaAifiya nah, its okay. I'm just wondering. I personally amazed by her, but I guess you're right. Being cut throat is not always an answer
I agree. Roles models are people who've achieved great things without forsaking their humanity. Ghandi, Mandela, Greta Thunberg, Malala.
So she had no credentials no proof whatsoever of being in college yet she got jobs after her interviews.. Sounds like she had dad make calls prior to interviews
And got on her kneeesssss
Whether or not she's been given breaks in life, she wouldn't be where she is if she were good or competent at her job. Nepotism can only do so much. If she was not skilled, Vogue and Conde Nast wouldn't exist.
sharron munyi She dropped out of school at 14
She wears a wig...wears glasses to hide her dark circles...wears unusual style to draw attention to herself to feed her ego. We wear the clothes not the price tags.
sharron munyi or she had talent that proves her worth. Not every good job in the arts requires a degree
This leaves out two really crucial controversies: Wintour pushing fur in fashion and generally being very public about fat shaming. Both of these bled over into fashion getting a really bad name.

Hollywood and reality. Can you tell the difference.?
I agree she could do with a better haircut but she does have style -- very feminine -- with Meryl Streep you had to suspend belief and for the sake of the plot accept it as reality that she had good taste and could wear her clothes well but it was hard because as good an actress as she is, and try as the wardrobe and make-up artists did in that movie, she didn't have the style of Anna Wintour
True same atrocious hairstyle and those ugly glasses 🙄🙄🙄
I do admire her resilience and willingness to change. I am looking forward to her masterclass.

Nuclear Wintour is the best drag name out there. Welcome to the stage : Nuclear Wintour

Miri Ke because fashion, like modern art, is completely subjective bullshit, and there is absolutely no point to making it the focal point of your scholarship
You either have an eye for style or you don't. You're born with it. No amount of money can buy you style and it certainly can't be taught.
It applies to art in general, you can learn the theory but you can´t buy good taste.

Even though her wealth and contacts may have helped her be where she is now, her personality, fierceness, attitude, style... is what made her be who she is now. Most of the people won't be able to name the editor of Vogue Italia, Vogue Spain, Glamour, and others. But we do know hers.
