    I really enjoy your videos Mark! I saw my first cherry shrimplets yesterday, I was able to count seven however I know I have more but the green water is making it difficult to see. I’ve done blackouts several times and can’t seem to get rid of it. I also have blue bolts in the same tank but plan to move them to their own tank soon. Keep up the great work!!

    3 weeks after start using Nutridust / Bacter AE / Polytase (one of those) with beta-glucans and PollenMix every second day, the survival rate of baby shrimp has exploded.
    Btw I use your NettleMix the others day and my shrimps love it, now I'll buy only my food on your shop!
    The amount of buried female increased to.
    Next step buying one reverse osmosis system (and others tank 😂)

    I keep plants, alder cones, and oak leaves for the babies. I also let some algae grow on the glass. Here's a question....I live down the street from a hippy grocery store that has weigh your own herbs and spices. They have things like spirulina powder and bee pollen which are good for shrimp... What other things at the grocery store should we look for for our shrimps?

      Every other day I dissolve some pollen, Bacter AE, yeast powder, glucazyme and montmorillonite clay in some aquarium water and add it to my tank. it must be working cos I have a noticeable layer of biofilm everywhere. And if there are shrimplet deaths in my tank, they aren't noticeable in the numbers of shrimp. out of 24 initial CRS that i bought, I have about 20 left after roughly 6 months (they reached adulthood about 3 months ago) and 1 and a half month ago I saw my first shrimplets. by now i must have at least 100 shrimplets in all sizes and that first batch of shrimplets is almost at 15mm in length now ;P
      Oh and also i have at least 2 catappa leaves in the tank at all times, some wood (overgrown by moss) and lots and lots of plants and moss. Added to this i have a considerable amount of ohko dragon stone in my tank, and the shrimplets are always going in and out of the crevices in the stones in the search for biofilm and other food ;P.

    im planing on setting up a cherry shrimp tank. I dont have an ro water system or any starter powders (the powders you put under substrate). Hello Tiny ,what you suggest will 100% work for cherry shrimp ..I think you know what you are doing :)

    • @BrutalRiotGirl01
      @BrutalRiotGirl01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      J hi, Im new too to the shrimp hobby, I didn't have special things so I used my tap water which has a tds of 303, I buy distilled water with 0 tds and mix them untill I get a reading of 200 tds, a cheap tds pen cost me 11 bucks. Of course I use prime to condition the tap water 1st. My shrimp have survived 3 months now and are berried with new babies coming soon. I slowly started buying things like cactus wood, I already had Indian almond leaf from my betta fish so I added that but they barely stated eating that since it took awhile to break down. I also bought Bacter AE a couple of weeks ago, and bought cheap national geographic shrimp and lobster pellets to feed them, it was like 5 bucks. I only have a 5 gallon planted tank. So you can buy as you go, but you def. need to cycle the tank 1st, they wont survive if the tank is not fully cycled since they can't tolerate ammonia.

    Those ropes you made look fantastic! How do you use the probiotic in your starter packs, I’m expecting my first Shrimplet’s soon, my tank is now well mature but I want to help them and the adults survive. I’ve got some Genchem polytase too. Yesterday I put a snail trap in with a calcium block in it (catching snails to feed my Dwarf Puffers) and the shrimp went in to eat the calcium block. They seemed to really love it. Would it be ok if I left it in the tank for them?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Deanne !! if your tank is already setup and running you can add a pinch of the stuff after every water change this will also help with biofilm , which your shrimp will love you for.

    I don’t use anything to increase biofilm in my shrimp tank. I’m a newcomer and currently only have a nano fire red cherry tank with some babies. Is it absolutely necessary to use a biofilm promoter? They seems happy grazing on all the plants and alder cones.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It natural forms on everything thats in the water so while not necessary there are benefits to it..alot of tanks when people start out dont have enough biofilm and people struggle to keep shrimp, adding a biofilm promoter help survival rates.

    Hi Mark, Everything I've seen on baby shrimp is so macro I can't tell what to look for. I just had 5 red cherry babies, 3 days old. They are clear with eyes. I can see their bodies with a msgnifier. They are darting around near the top of the tank with no apparent interest in my moss, glass, etc. Is this normal? Tx for the help. Joanne

      @@MarksShrimpTanks you got it! They are fish fry, thinking black skirt tetra - long with a silver shimmer. I'm so disappointed 😣. Happy I succeeding with breeding, just not the breeding I got.
      I had shrimp & fish together. I moved the fisk to another tank as soon as I noticed my shrimp fanning her eggs a lot and my new tank cycling was complete. The tetra must have left her eggs behind when I packed her bags.
      I saw my shrimp drop eggs but they did not look like shrimp. Next day they were gone and the fry were near the top. I presumed they were the baby shrimp. Coincidental for sure.
      I wrote to you when I didn't see the behavior I was expecting, the long bodies and no red color. Guess it was wishful thinking.
      So far I don't see any baby shrimp. Hoping for success on the next go around. 😥

      @BlaiseMibeck 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have too many bladder snails -- the colony of cherry shrimp seem to be doing ok, plenty of babies and juveniles. It might be that the snails are not reducing the biofilm. If biofilm is a bacterial colony, I am not sure how the snails cause it (perhaps they keep it fed with the slime they produce? Do the snails only eat the algae and leave the bacteria?
      How can we control the bladder snail population?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bacteria is passed through the gut of the snail in its poop, if you do have loads of snails the best way to reduce the numbers is to feed less and remove as much as you can by hand.

    This is wonderful ! So glad I found this channel. Subbed.
    I have a question:
    Does Seachem "Purigen" and/or Activated Carbon, strip all the BioFilm from the tank ?
    I know shrimp really need a well established tank full of BioFilm to munch on.
    Bit worried about using Purigen in my filter.
    Coming from a 'scaping' perspective, where it's used a lot.
    I'm trying to set up a small show-tank with cherry shrimp. Not breeding.
    Would also like clear water...
    Happy to let the tank settle-in for a few months before adding the shrimp.
    I just don't want to strip all the good stuff away for the little guys with water polishers... Any advice ?
