[potential ds1 spoilers] Alr so as for when you said dark souls would be like Skyrim if it weren’t in an apocalyptic state. There is one reason that I would say initiated everything, that kickstarted the downfall of the gods and their false civilization. The reason for that state, I believe is because of seethe the scaleless, among other things anyways It’s because he was born imperfect unlike other dragons and so he doesn’t have the immortality that he would His goal is to create an ancient dragon like the ones that came before him (they were all killed in the war with the gods minus seethe) So that’s some context, but shortly before ds1 starts, his experiments start to ramp up and so he is kidnapping women who aren’t pregnant in order to try to make them give birth to a real ancient dragon free of any issues One of those women was the secret lover of Havel however it was unknown to anybody because she was a church lady and it went against their beliefs So here’s where it gets interesting, Havel eventually finds out although only after she commits suicide from inside her cell. Havel declares Seethe his mortal enemy but doesn’t make any move yet, instead he plans a rebellion against the gods to overthrow them and stop everything regarding their consumption of humanity. This whole undead curse, is their way of basically trapping humanity in a farm and consuming humanity. After the Seethe problem Havel starts to doubt the gods and see all the evil they are actually doing. So everything leading up to ds1, what with Anor Londo being so empty, I’d say it’s safe to attribute that to Havel because he started a rebellion and although he failed, he still destroyed most of their army. As for the people who would live in Anor Londo I don’t know enough lore around that yet to find out why it’s empty of them. And do keep in mind that Havel would likely have succeeded if not for one thing. Dohmnall, the guy that we get our boss armor from, got bought out since he values rare treasures above everything else and gave up the plan, so Havel and his small rebellion was ambushed. But what really shows the damage they could have done, despite that and having the entire combined armies of the gods and seethe against them, Havels strategies and tactics allowed them to kill off most of them. Now in this ambush by ash lake I believe, Havel knew that in an open space his small force stood no chance, so he had them all fall back to the giant tree where they would fight within. This would force the enemy to fight them in a more 1 on 1 situation where the better soldier would win. Havel the Rock was likely the strongest mortal man to ever live in the souls universe and the only one to just butcher dragons. Bearing this in mind he did it with strength alone, but after the war against dragons, in his time serving the gods he came to learn some sorceries of his own to fill in his weaknesses in the events of ever facing off against seethe who he had problems with since the start. It’s basically rightfully placed dragon racism as seethe would eventually come to do horrible things. Havel gave us magic barrier and great magic barrier. Along with his high intensity training and magical abilities, he gave all the knowledge and training he could to his rebellion for months before they ever made the move that resulted in an ambush. Those soldiers were basically captain Americas against common army men. Like they were OP. Let me say it again, they were ambushed by an entire army of the gods and although they died, extremely outnumbered they still took most of them with them. Havel left a legacy like none other and I would say set in motion the events of dark souls 1. By tipping the balance, one different undead being the player, would eventually take down the gods and bring about a new era. But that’s basically why it’s all in an apocalyptic state now, there was a time where it was all under control, however like I said the gods they worshipped were just farming them for their humanity and living the good life. Their tactic was the undead curse Although I’m still pretty new to the dark souls universe so I could be wrong on a few points, if I am please correct me because this is some interesting stuff anyway
