The programming on this simply ended up being the secondary option by using a USB thumb drive so I left out by pulling the side of the console and using the main USB input
This could be programmed one of two ways through the cable I showed you or through a USB thumb drive and it just so happened the USB thumb drive is the one that ended up being
@@FordBossMe I watched a video recently replacing the APIM. The unit was purchased from a junk yard as a unit from Ford is north of $700 and on BO for eternity apparently. Anyways, the used APIM did not require programing at the time of installation.
You may be able to get away with that but you never know what you're getting so you're at the mercy of them then this video should suffice for removal and installation for the normal person if they want to go that route and that's it but there's an SSID SSI and it's programmed through the process so everything knows what's online They're available you just have to know how to get them
Quick question. I have none of those issues but I have a 2012 explorer xlt . It's doesn't have the Sony one. But mine will turn off the air while driving or vice versa, it will switch from heat to air on its own. Auto setting isn't on
Great video,and nice explanation.i have 2014 ford explorer xlt,and the screen is frozen,nothing works on the touch screen,but I still have some features work through the steering wheel like radio,seek back and forward,and thats it.now if I buy the apim with the same id number thats on the original one,will it work without programming?
you know, at that point i'd be looking for the aftermarket andriod based full screen unit made for these trucks. Their is a full sized screen out that integrates that whole panel including the HVAC controls for around 700. Im just not a fan of the Microsoft Sync. Love the Vids, I definitely owe you one.

I spoke to a gentleman from the dealership and they wanted 180 bucks to do it and he said that it could fry it…
Same issue on my daughters 2011. Screen would work then not work then work again and finally black. Had dealership diagnose and they are telling me it is the FDIM/Display screen which is contrary to everything I have read which indicates APIM failure. What are your thoughts on this. I have a new APIM I plan to put in and do not see any reason the FDIM/Display itself would be bad.
@@FordBossMe replaced the APIM and everything works again. Radio, climate controls front and rear, backup camera, etc. The only things that don’t seem to be working properly are the heated seats, don’t seem to heat up and only 2 of the 3 lights illuminate, volume increase and decrease does not show up on the screen like the climate control does. Is this a small issue that needs to go to Ford to get programmed? If there was a way for me to program it that would be great. For the most part it was plug and play and the important things already work correctly. Feel like I wasted money at Ford yesterday with their diagnosis since they were wrong. I messaged them and told them it work with the APIM and all they said was that their pinpoint test showed it was the display. Thanks for the video, very helpful for sure
You can find videos on updating it for free with a flash drive and also programming it specifically to that vehicle with its VIN etc and add those functions like heated seats etc using FORSCAN.
My dealer charges 1 hour of labor to program it, which is $190. I'm still wondering if I want to spend the $650 my local shop wants. Or chance it with a used $120 FCIM, plus the cost to program it.
Hello, my hazards will not turn off and mechanic says there's no fix for button? 2011 ford explorer. I I was told replacing the interface would work. Any advice on what to purchase would be greatly appreciated. Ford dealer here take 2 months to get it looked at. It is driving me crazy
What you recommend looking at on my sync 3 in a 19 f350 if my gps stopped working and the bluetooth doesnt remember my new phone, i have to connect it manually evrytime i start the truck.
Wish I could just get decent priced and preprogrammed parts to swap out my Sync2 and throw in a Sync3 Apim and Screen so that I get the advantages of Android Auto.

99.9% of the time it is the accessory protocol interface module and it's not the front display module

Unhook the negative battery cable for about 10 minutes and then plug it back in and tighten it down

Master reset in settings
Make sure your phone is up to date as well

Sync 3 isn't worth dog water, sync 2 and 1 were so easy to fix
