    I appreciate your comparisons to DCS Huey, which I have been learning.. think I will hold off on this one for now and see what might be offered in msfs2024 for helis first :) and keep working dcs

    Oh man its such a tease putting a McDermott's livery on the Huey. Makes me want a 214B to fly that much more, but a 205 will do for now.

    Nice review. I've been pretty much flying this non-stop since it came out, def one of my favs if not my fav helicopter in the sim to date - and I own them all bar the scam releases! As far as the Msfs flight model goes, it's probably the best use of it I've seen so far, and coupled with a great frame rate in VR, sounds etc, it's really been hard even thinking of flying anything else this weekend! The flight model however did have me a little dubious before release, and i'm glad it turned out to be so surprisingly good, for not injecting in an external model. The price is also pretty good value imo, I can imagine the Blackbird release being a bit pricier, and given the features with this - it really would need to bring something new to the table to make it's release in any way competitive with this. Even if it's a different model of UH-1. Happy flying!

      Thanks for the positive feedback. While the MSFS heli flight model has it's shortcomings, some developers are really starting to figure out how to get the best out of it and this is definitely a great example of what can be achieved. Honestly I was so busy keeping an eye out for the Blackbird version I almost glanced right over this one but I think they're going ot have to deliver something pretty special now. Mind you, I've seen some good stuff from their updates so we'll see.

      Thanks, my HOTAS is fairly basic. It's an old Thrustmaster HOTAS X but I recently invested in a Virpil Collective, which does make a big difference.

    Nice flying! I know it’s scary, but try to get into VRS closer to the ground where you have more lateral reference or while doing a steep approach. I’ve had it kick in, but it won’t trigger unless you are almost in a perfect vertical descent. When it’s triggered, you can’t recover with collective.

      Thanks. Airspeed read as zero but it can't hurt ot do more experimenting... other than potentially crashing but that only hurt virutally 😆. Thanks for the tip.

      @@flightsoficarus airspeed will still show zero if you’re moving sideways or backwards ;) a sidestep is proper recovery. In real helis, you can’t trust the indicator below 15knts anyway. Keep making great videos!

    I'm questioning how realistic this Huey is. The H doesn't have a rotor brake, that was a USMC request and showed up on the Marines E model, the US Army Hueys didn't have it.

    Question how did you get the outside view screen showing in on the cockpit view both at the same time. Is this on the same screen and can the outside and inside view both be seen in VR?

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I recorded the inside shot in VR while flying with OBS studio and at the same time recorded the flight with SkyDolly. I then replayed the flight in 2D with from the SkyDolly recording in external view and recorded that again with OBS studio. Then it's just a case of finding key points I can use to sync the 2 up.

    DOES VOR NAVIGATION WORK? CAN YOU MAKE A TUTORIAL

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. I confess it's been a while since I did any VOR navigation, I mostly fly VFR or using GPS but I just had a go and yes you can. However, from my initial look around the cockpit it appears that you use the traditional avionics, you can only set up NAV1. If you want to use NAV1 & NAV2 you'll need to switch to modern avionics on the tablet by the copilots seat. But it might be a useful thing to do a tutorial video.

      @@flightsoficarus I THINK A VOR NAVIGATION FLIGHT IS VERY EXCITING, AND I ALWAYS WONDER IF THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERS A GPS BREAKDOWN OR A SHOT IN THAT ELECTRONICS PART, HOW WE WILL DRIVE IT. FLYING BY GPS IS EASY AND WITHOUT CHALLENGES. IF YOU MADE A TUTORIAL, I THANK YOU BECAUSE I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO DO IT.google translate

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      VOR relies on the radio so suseptable to the same kinds of failures as GPS but it's it's a valuable skill that's definetly worth learning. Your ultimate fallback navigation is going to be VFR. If you plan your flight and work out bearings, estimated flight times and landmarks you can navigate quite effectively but you need to be paying attention. If you fly the bush trips, this is generally all setup for you, although there are no helicopter bush trips in the base game that I'm aware of 😔. You can just turn off the GPS and follow the flight log. It does take some practice though.

    Looks nice, but I’m waiting for the Blackbird Simulations version. I believe it will be more of a study level version. Also it’s going to have working guns and rockets :). On a side note why are some devs like this one able to make metal switches look so lifelike but Miltech and DC Designs can’t. Their switches always look fake and cartoon like. I really like the Chinook but those overhead switches are just bad.

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Blackbird version does look good. I'm always up for a study level model but I'm not so enthused by the guns and rockets. The Shrike 530F was developed by a branch of Blackbird and although the weapons made noises and had flashing light effects, the nature of MSFS makes them a little lack luster. MSFS just isn't built for it. But I'm more interested in the aircraft than the ordinance and if it's as good as the previews suggest then it should be a good module.

    Regarding textures, the DCS UH-1 is rubbish comparing with this one, with only one thing the div need to rework it: the pilot's lower body + their flight suite.
