I love the fact that there are many out of GCC abilities. I love this about fire mage in WoW. This sounds even more fun, by being more than just 1 ability.
I am so glad you see the potential for group synergies and skill synergies, the gaps will be insane because of groups who build off of each other. Can't wait for A2.
It was nice to see Steven commit to or at least openly say there will be an attempt to allow augments to truly change the class abilities so that your secondary doesn't simply end up being just flavor. I want to be able to create a paladin type class. If flavor is all we get, that can't exist. But mixing a fighter and cleric should allow for building a passive off healing dps class. May not excell at either in particular, but provide a decent rest/buffer for your healers while still providing respectable damage.
thb i didnt dig deep into the classes, but i would like to try make some blade dancer class with bard/rogue or maybe bard/fighter as dps/support. I always liked hybrid classes and this seems to be nice way to fine tune them as you like
Definitions in detail of what things mean with numeric support information is critical in the player understanding what they are signing up for...otherwise you will create disappointment with players when they spend a skill resource on something that wasn't what they thought it was. So many games fail at this. Look at how many mods address this in WOW.
You should have 12x the following. I love the little story intros. Makes it a fun channel. Honestly you could probably take some highlights of your adventures and turn them into good, fun content for YT.
Very interested to see Warrior Bard/Cleric augments and how they synergize with small scale pvp, specifically 2vX scenarios. Would be very cool to have lesser impactful Hots, Heals, Buffs for a 2 man Warrior Duo in pvp
@@NwD2 the essays are my bread and butter. I thought bespoke had a good chance to flop but it didn’t so it’s a fun side project. Thanks for the support!
*In regular Mmo's, I always aim to be 30% better than the next guy playing the same class. Skill gap games, this usually translates into actually 50-100% better. I have been waiting a long time for a game like Ashes!*
Auto attacks should work like how they do in mobas. Click a mob, you keep auto attacking until you click somewhere else or input a stop command. But you don't start attacking until you click
HAHA! very entertaining video, but at the same time super informative!! Resplendent Beam needs to always heal 3 players even when quick cast, holding the charge could add 1 more bounce, and heal for more. if they keep it as is, why not just cast a single target heal. Steven NEEDS to give you an interview.
Personally i think that auto attacks are most beneficial to tank support and healer, on my dps i'll turn it off but on my probable main bard ill probably have it on since ill be more buisy positioning, and buffing / debuffing and then the little bit of extra damage helps
I disagree for one simple reason: Optimal for what exactly? "Meta" for a Boss Fight is extremely unlikely to be "meta" for small scale pvp which is usually not the same as "meta" for large scale pvp, which is normally not the same as solo pve content.
Not gonna lie, I'm also a stickler for the tooltips. I wanna know exactly what I'm doing. Heck, make it a part of the progession even, where leveling gives you more advanced tooltips or something. Like an RTX 4090, I wanna see the details!
I personaly view gear as a part of my skill. Kinda. At least it means I know where and how to get it )) But gear shouldn't be more important than a pure skill. In a perfect world, highly skilled player in mid gear should have close performance to mid skill player at high tier gear IMHO
I think the word "Potential" in the original statement - "...a larger *potential* skill gap..." is fairly significant. Having said that, I don't think "Balance" is as important as in other games. I don't think AoC is intending to become an esport and it is also a large team game, where teams can be unbalanced. On top of that I think coming up with a potentially good build and actually making it happen are going to be very different thing. What if your build has a religious augment and no one actually gets that religion going? What if you need a flaming sword and no raid exists on your server with the mats for that sword. I think the intent is for the "Best" build to be different on every server, every node, and every group. And if all your fighters pick the "Best" build, you run the risk of creating a catastrophic weakness like the French knights at Agincourt, or the Crusaders at Hattin, or the Romans in the Teutoberg Forest. As you infer, if you have a super-skilled Bard that you build your team around, and Bards don't stack well, because buffs don't stack, then your weakness is that Bard being taken out, or having a hot date that night. I haven't formed any likes or dislikes about the game yet, because the Devil is going to be in the details, but you raise some good points. I really enjoy this sort of theorising and this video. I particularly enjoy the way you don't create an "End of the World" hysterical rant like others in the space. Now I'm going to have to lie down for a bit, because my head hurts!
I like the video, but you seem to have class and archetype mixed up (as evidenced about halfway through when you say 'secondary class') This makes the title inaccurate.
