Cool Tanner! It's Soo good to follow your process, the method plus tools plus the process is the way to do it! Seems easy when you do it!! Thanks for sharing!!
Tanner Bendheim from Dover shores? Its Mitch Dreyer, we played AYSO soccer together. Awesome to watch your process, I'm looking at starting to try and make some boards myself.
How do you correct the thickness 1ft from nose and 1ft from tail? Do you measure and if it's too thick, just make the rocker curve extend further toward the center of the board?
Hello nice video! do you think you can list the materials/tools used? I am always wondering what sand paper number are they using in different parts of the video? then I see you use another kind of sand paper for rails? Thanks I appreciate !
I think you best resource will be to go to greenlight surf supply's website. They have instructions on shaping a surfboard and walk you through all the tools and sandpaper grits. Check the link in the video description.
Hey Tanner, thanks for posting these. I'm wondering where you got the tool that holds your pencil equidistant when doing rail bands etc and if it has a name? Thanks! JD

boa pergunta. I began shaping my first board, and I realized that I traced the outline on the top of the board rather than the bottom. Is this something to worry about?
It’s better to trace your outline in the bottom because if you don’t cut exactly vertical with your saw, you won’t mess up the hard edge on the bottom of the tail.
Nice effort! However, templet first, then foil. Less foam to mow hence faster. Also, don't use the saw up and down like that when cutting templet; use the saw like a carpenter (hold grip w index finger extended for guidance). Hold the saw more horizontally and curve the saw as you are cutting so that you are just outside the template line. Nose and tail will be off a touch (bring back in with sureform) but most the templet will be super smooth. Use the planer on its side to true-up; you can "feel" any bumps this way. Any bumps should be there on purpose. Since you have full length templates, you could use a router to template. Takes practice, but this is a 45 min board (unless you are really oldskool .... then its 30 min max).
Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback and advice! I've done it both ways and prefer to foil first so the template is easier to cut without the hard outer skin on the blank. I've seen so many different methods in shaping that I just decided to go with what works best for me and what I'm most comfortable with. I'm sure there are lots of areas I can improve at. Thanks for watching and commenting man!
Dude, Tanner is being nice to you. Just because you shape a certain way does not mean it is the correct way, and you must tell everyone how to “fix” their methods. Shaping is an art, and art doesn’t have rules. In fact, hearing you lecture him only convinces me that you are a copy machine, and you don’t have the ability to think outside the box. I shape, and I also take down the thickness before I draw the template. I actually use a jigsaw with a longer blade to cut the template, and I can do that because I’ve already planed the board, and the bottom is flat, so I don’t get angled template cuts. We all do things differently. By the way, throwing the “Nice effort!” Comment is condescending and screams of narcissism.
I drew the template before and after skinning the blank. The reason I drew it before was just to visualize what my new template outline would look like before I started shaping. I drew the template again after skinning the blank to cut the outline.
Ellipse, parabola, arc, etc., we can find these ratios in reality and draw them onto our crafts. 120 degrees is everywhere, ask a bee, an oak tree, or your mom.... lines ... things ..

Hey Mitch thanks and good to hear from you! Best of luck making your boards. It’s a fun hobby to start riding your own creations.
Did you make the caliper? If not, where id you buy that one? Thanks for the video!

@ 3:50 i see channels in your future shaping..have you tried any boards with channels?
Not yet, but not opposed to it on the right type of board

Can you tell me where you got your installation for your shipping container contan
that was awesome

Use a measuring bar to measure and keep removing foam and stinger till you get there. Keep the transitions smooth
what grit sandpaper are you using to level the planer steps?, thanks for the video

Hey mate, thank for the videos. I have a question, how much thicker than your final desired thickness do you get your blank? 1/4 " too little?

Hey man, I'm currently shaping a board similar to this one. Was wondering what your nose and tail rocker dimensions were for this board? Cheers!
Around 4.5” nose and 1.5” tail

Can’t remember, Probably a 6’4

WEN electric planer from Home Depot. $42
@@BendheimBoards thanks a lot man!
Is this a normal planer? Just with blades? If I use a planer on xps, it gaps. Not so smooth as yours.
Yes it is. I've never worked with XPS foam so I can't speak from experience but make sure your not going too fast on your passes.
Looks like less work. By a smidgen?

Why didn’t you do the outline on the bottom AFTER you planed off the skin on the bottom?
I drew the template before and after skinning the blank. The reason I drew it before was just to visualize what my new template outline would look like before I started shaping. I drew the template again after skinning the blank to cut the outline.

Why draw the template and then plane it off 🤪🤪
It was drawn for my template video just to show what the outline would look like.
