Yeah, I would drop infinity and put grief in its place. Infinity is great and all but its cost kinda justifies how powerful it is. Grief is significantly cheaper and just transforms any melee character...

I play non-ladder but have never traded for any item. I got a Jah drop about a month, a month and a half after D2R was released. I got a Ber rune finally 2 weeks ago. There is such a clear before and after the Enigma being rolled. Almost game-breakingly good. As far as budget runewords go, Spirit has to be up there.
Tbh Grief is just gg, way better than everything else. Grief or enigma should be #1 and #2. Probably enigma first but grief just everything else looks bad, so op that I hate to use it, and only for a Lo, at least enigma is way more expensive
I guess it depends on what you define as OP id argue insight and spirit are 1 and 2 in terms of ease of access to them now if you are just talking about how powerful a rune is grief and enigma are better for sure.

Both in Berseker Axes. Aplying Fortitude armor to see total damage. BOTD: Base damage 36-106. Perfect ROLL: 180-530 damage. You add extra 300% damage from fort to the base damage. So will be a 700%ed Zerk (400+300) Total: 288-848 GRIEF: Base damage: 24-71. +400 damage from runeword. New base damage 424-471. Now lets multiply by fort ED. SO 300%ed extra to the already gg base damage of 424-471: 1696-1884 So 288-848 vs 1696-1884. How fair does it sound? I might have done some calculation wrong but overall grief works like that. Not to even mention Grief adds the flat damage to Smite (it doesnt show) So your base smite damage get a nice bonus of +340-400. While smite doesnt even work like a frenzy hit or something like that. I think I already wrote too much. I would Say Grief is #1 by a huge ammount, but not every char uses it, while Enigma just makes all the characters more viable, so I dont mind considering enigma as the Best runeword in the game.
I think the reason why he rates this rws better than grief is because with this rws you get more bang for your buck in the longer term, almost any class can use them. They are even staples on mf builds. While grief isnt that "universal" lets say. Im not saying grief is bad. But if you craft a grief for a pitzerker and then you decide that you dont like the build, you cant just say "oh whatever, ill put this grief on my sorc and ill mf with her"
I finally got my endgame spirit made in a 45 all res sacred rondache pally shield base and it's just nuts for my hdin. 45 fire res and 80 to all others, and I landed that 35 fcr roll to boot. Still no cta, and 1 rune away from enigma, but using an insight as well. Definitely agree with your list, good work!
Its very niche but I don't think any of the lower level rune words have the same impact Leaf does. As a fire sorc, putting it on a base will th +fireball will quadruple your damage and double your mana regen. You go from meh to broken instantly.

I actually use enigma on a sorceress. Yes you don't need it to teleport but pretty much all the other stats are very useful. It also has +life after kill which is great since the sorceress can't leech. And if you want you can save one or two points (telekinesis and teleport) which is not bad.
I think a cool vid that would be super helpful that I haven’t seen anyone else do. Is best bases for certain rune words. Like enigmas, merc forts, insights, infinity, etc. I know that’s something newer players probably struggle with.
The problem with doing a overpowered runeword list is that "top 5" is too small. Top 10 and you can get all them in there. Not seeing HOTO, fort, grief, stealth and a few others just feels wrong ya know?
Insight. I have 3-4 of them that I swap around to whatever character I’m playing. Love the prayer A2 merc vs the cold. Life and mana pots mostly go to keep the merc alive. With a lvl 20 Valkyrie he’s even better
I think personally I'd put HoZ up there with Spirit in terms of power from an off handed item. Yes that's Paladin specific and otherwise I would agree with you, but it still deserves at least a mention.

It only works if multiple sources of an aura are on the same character. Your mercs skills are completely separate from yours, and enemies can only be effected by one instance of an aura at a time.
This is why i keep asking changes, Jah is currency many years now cause of enigma. Cham is a useless rune cause it doesnt fit to any strong runewords. Zod is very rare and yet is trades for 1 Lo rune cause like cham, it doesnt fit to anything than BOTD. We need more runewords for rune like Cham and Zod, we need changes to Enigma or more runewords with Teleport without Jah inside. But in general you are right, i think Spirit should be 1 cause it costs nothing and it carries charas to Hell so ez
Just got to hell online and still found only one Sol. 3 4 soc weapons. Had to do 3 amh to get it too. Have an entire page full from Countess farming :)
I make the CtA in a double axe. Flail uses HoTo and Crystal Sword uses Spirit. That way I never mix any of them up. If only Grief wasn’t so good with a Phase Blade, it would be idiot-proof! (aka me-proof)
Forts ok but I was expecting grief on here fore sure. He swapped it for CTA from the list in my head before starting, but I think he's right since cta is used on literally every character. Even barbarians benefit from dual cta, they only get 3 BO max on themselves but the additional 1 to all skills brings that to 4.
Najs puzzler is decent for teleworking but i ttakes up my back bar and I just made a cta I would rather use there but I'm necro and need Tele port for clear speed

@@Magus86 ive done this build before on botnet using infinity made in a scythe on my Nova sorc but you need all the maximum mana possible so 2 sojs silkweave, arach, 2 skills fcr ammy with mana, griffon, and bunch of mana scs with the light skillers of course add torch and anni so its end up behind a very expensive build!! Super fun though!!
It's already boring with them. Blizzard needs to add content. Id rather play the mods that are out that actually add end game content and new runeworda and uniques than a game that has so many bugs and is stale
Agree with everything until you said even sorc’s want enigma as an mf build. 3 piece tals armor belt and ammy will always trump enigma. When I started my sorc I told myself I wanted 400 mf. Surprisingly I was able to obtain 520+ actually pretty easily and still hit very hard with Fire wall/frozen orb combo. Also I know it’s hard to narrow it down to 5, but Grief makes that cut in my opinion.
Depends what you are looking for at that moment, some people value that +2 skills more for faster clears and only want 280%MF before they hit major DR. I still use 3 pc tals though

Its a nice item to chase. Sure its op, but balance is severely overvalued in pvm games today. I still love 45 ias and fade from treachery (especially in D2R), 300 EDmg from fortitude, big res and skills on CoH. Theyre all great. You can replace enigma with a naj staff on your offhand too.

Don't make your Insight out of a Colossus Voulge like he is showing (I know, he's just showing an example). Your merc won't be able to equip it until he's in his high 80's A Bill or a Battle Scythe are better options until your merc has enough strength.
True for the playthrough, not true for endgame. Yes, there are better elite polearms to make Insight in but they are harder to find due to them not being capped at 4 sockets. Trading for them would be expensive too as they also happen to be the best Infinity bases. As for the strength requirement, players usually solve the issue with Andariel's Visage.
I don't think so. All the ones here deserve the spot more, and if we were to add a sixth, that spot would surely go to Grief. In a top 7 though, I can definitely see a spot for Fort. But then again it would have to compete with HotO, Treachery, Faith etc.

No offense but this is BS. Just to get the weapons you can use to be socketed takes more time than anybody is going to waste on this game sorry. I play Solo and have been playing for over 120 hours with not one 4 socketed anything in Nightmare mode. Waste of time.
YESSSSSSSS. Casters are just OP. Melee is too gear dependent. "SPIRIT" is WAY too cheap. Insight is WAY too cheap. These should require mid runes (Pul- Ist). Class abilities should NOT be found on runewords (teleport, shouts) or on any item for others to use. Infinity is OP, because the game is broken with its BS immunities (even so, it would still greatly increase damage of casters).

I never use energy shield really. Very very very rarely for any builds.
