In fairness those at top of current rookie ladder have been balling getting minutes. Steph only gotten to really show his stuff when Sochan and Tre got hurt. But he deserves to be in the ROTY talks seriously.
Castle is a stud, and Jarred McCain’s accolades are also valid. He was so overlooked in the NCAA tournament, and he’s who I wanted the Spurs to pick at #8, or even trade down to #11-12 and get him there. Imagine him and Castle as rookies on this team - and into the future!
I can't say McCain would be doing the same thing with the Spurs as he is with 76ers. All those injuries have given him the opportunity and more importantly the green light to play that way. Also defensively he doesn't really compare to our 8 top defenders, it'd be hard for him to be on the court. Not saying he's not talented, I just think his talents are being magnified in his current situation.
@ That’s a fair point. He’d have probably played some with Tre Jones out, but not after. And his “D” will probably improve over time, but that doesn’t help us immediately. Is he a better player over time than say Branham, or maybe even Tre Jones. I’m not unhappy that they traded away the #8 pick, so let me amend that to say that IF they had used it, McCain would have been my pick, followed by Cody Williams or Dalton Knect. I thought underrated for where he was projected, and will continue to improve. I’d def snatched him right up at #15.
The Spurs hit it out the park getting Paul, Barnes and drafting Castle. We can't get excuses of not being able to afford paying top talent around Wemby if the team is asking for a new stadium.
Unfortuately NBA and media only look at those points (mostly), remember Wemby's first month/s? Even if he was pretty solid but Chet got the rookie of the month cause he played more minutes and got better offensive stats.. Only after the "statement" games when they took Victor seriously as a runaway ROTY. If Castle wants the ROTY he needs to take it!
If Castle improves his shooting, he'll be terrible to play against. He's not far from being a perfect player. He's comfortable with the ball and reminds me of Maxey. He can pass the ball very well, he's quick on both sides and he's very good at penetrating the ball. You wonder how some teams missed out on this guy. If he doesn't get injured, he's already fully operational at a high level. He just needs to become more reliable at shooting, even if he's not bad.
I’d like to have Barnes starting over Sochan for better floor spacing. Keep Castle starting at SF for his development as 2nd priority to Victors. Vassell is our floor spacing SG. New lineup would be: Wemby Barnes Castle Vassell CP3 Sochan Champagnie Johnson Bassey Branham Collins Jones Wesley Mamu
With Castle and Victor, if Sochan concentrates on defence and shoots the ball a little less, Spurs will be in the play-offs this year. They are hard to beat at home. We're betting on at least 40 wins this year. Castle has to manage to get above 20 points quickly. Spurs must have three guys averaging 25 points to tease the best this year, while waiting for another great shooter. We're putting him in the top three Rookie and best ball in hand.

Jared McCain and Dalton Knect are shooting great!
@himmydawg Yeah, that's the only thing hurting Castle rn is his shooting

Castle has good intangibles even when he’s not scoring but he’s also scoring crucial buckets
Agreed! He needs to continue starting and developing his shooting percentages
The parking is in the bottom right corner of the picture Jeff your image cropped that out but there's a giant parking garage in front of the Alamodome
He is one of my favorite Spurs players!!! Just a winner

Castle breakout game was against the lakers not the thunder
I’m still baffled by the spurs picking Zac Edy
Typical fans look at points scored and think that’s the primary metric for determining ROtY. Castle’s game is so much more than that.

Put some respect on his name, he's a winner.
God spurs moving from SA is a nightmare. Hispanic culture so strong in SA.
