From 12:21, the point Ps Gideon making there seems to be akin to the doctrine of sinless perfection or at least its milder form known as Entire Sanctification. There is strong debate on that doctrine and I am personally not in agreement with it.
I do believe that we are called to strive to live godly lives. But to say that you can go a long period of time without having the occasional, maybe even rare, and certainly unintentional, period of unjustified anger, frustration, dishonesty and even lust simply by resolving not to do so because we have been regenerated is not supported by the entirety of the New Testament, not just a few verses.
This seems to me to be a product of systematic theology, even though I'm speaking as a systematic theology student and I'd recommend it, as compared to biblical theology. You have to consider the entirety of the New Covenant plan of salvation, what the scriptures say about it and how it is being worked out practically rather than fitting everything into a system by picking what this verse and that verse and those set of verses and then forming the system. The two are supposed to work together. To me, only using systematic theology as a perspective without applying biblical theology ends up in this perfectionistic teachings with regard to moral behaviour.
Another problem is that there are so many things we do that is sin that we cannot see...either because we do not know it is sin or because it is a sin of the heart, sth that Christ addresses strongly in the Sermon on the Mount, the very place He tells us to be perfect just as God is perfect and the reason he say that our righteousness must exceed that of the pharisees. Every single time you refuse to drop enough money for the beggar on the roadside to buy a meal, it is sin. Every time it even crosses your mind that that young lady has a nice figure, it is sin. Every time you give a little less than you could possibly give, even without compulsion, it is sin. Why is sth like that sin? Because you are not giving out of faith that God is able to take care of you even if you "give too much" and everything done without faith is sin. We are adept as brushing away the many many sins of the heart we commit each hour that we forget that we are sinning and that we are only kept by the ongoing grace of God. For if righteousness could be achieved through the law, then Christ died for nothing (Gal 2:21). That sin consciousness is one of the things that plagued Martin Luther so much as a young monk in the Catholic Church that the priests would be wary with him because of how much time he spent in the confessional box. That is until he came across the text that reads "The just shall live by faith". I wish I had the time and space to break it down but no one reads long comments haha.
To consider Jesus' statement in Matthew 5:48, that same statement is in Luke 6:21. But it is not perfect, it is merciful. Thus most commentators suggest that Jesus' statement there is not a general charge for moral perfection in every area of one's life but rather it is meant to serve as a conclusion of his community justice commands beginning from Matt 5:21 ie we are to be merciful, perfect in love just as God is perfect.
I agree that we must "reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive in Christ", "be holy just as God is holy", "to beat our bodies into submission that we may not be found wanting even as we have preached to others" and "to live lives worthy in accordance with the gospel with which we have been called". But even if Ps Gideon claims that the Romans 7 passage is taken out of context, it does not erase the fact that Paul uses not only the present tense in that passage but also the present tense in 1 Tim 1 when he calls himself "the chief of sinners".
I agree with everything else in the video. It's just that small bit I'm not sure on and it's not the first time I've heard him say that. I don't mind being refuted by anyone or by Ps Gideon himself. I'm open to that. I just want a good exposition of a biblical perspective on moral perfection and the role of glorification in it.
