Tom gets it. I've been saying, Patrick Mahomes is like Robin Hood Men in Tights. Falls behind, "I lost, wait a minute I'm not supposed to lose. I get another shot/quarter"
I grew up in KC and we got our stuff beat in for decades. I remember the Vermiel years. The Schottenheimer years. The Herm Edwards years.All offense and no defense. Big points and post season failures. Were no 1 right now. Everyone else has to suck it until the talent shifts.

@@Wiggleattacks I grew up an army brat, so we moved around a lot. Mom was career, dad went into civil service. I don't remember him being a major sports fan (though he did like the 49ers) having grown up in Cali. Even so, he was at best a casual fan. In '86, (I was 10) we moved to Germany. There was one TV station and one radio station and with the difference in time zones, there was only so much that made it over when it came to sports at all, so nothing got me hooked.
Then everything changed. In '89 we moved to Fort Leavenworth, KS, just a hop, skip, and a jump away from KC. Those were some formative years for me. I didn't gravitate to the Chiefs just yet, but I was well aware of them. That whole first year was getting acclimated, having moved, getting new friends, etc, and in 1990, my dad is participating in football pools, and yes, I'm watching with him. The Chiefs grabbed onto me and never let go.
So yes, I remember those years. The not good enough, to the "we almost made it" with Joe, to mediocre under Marty, Gunther, to still some hope with Vermeil to.. how in the hell did we get this bad? In that 7 year span with Edwards, Haley and Crennel we had 2 years of 4-12 and 2 year of 2-14.
And then... then came Andy, and it feels like everything is right with the world. We both know full well that a dynasty doesn't last forever. I'm just happy to be here and will enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.
Maybe I should thank those coaches for sucking so badly, because if they hadn't, we'd have never had Andy Reid come in to fix it.
The Hasselbeck callback was money! Even though the Hawks lost, I can still laugh at the fact he did in fact throw the game winning touchdown 😂😭

Something interesting - Tom’s Coach series kinda unintentionally chronicled the formation of the Chiefs dynasty through the perspective of every franchise. Just thought that was a cool outcome.

I’m a fan of old school comedy, where one simple phrase is repeated over and over and over. Monty Python, Mel Brooks, the Marx Brothers, and now…..Tom Grossi (oh and Lurch is awesome too, but not the context for which I was heading!)

@@mikelmar5723the reason why that happened was because they actually marked the previous play short of the first down so the short play you mentioned actually was for the first down and wasn’t the new first down

I knew the OT rule (I'm still flabbergasted players didn't). But I hadn't put together that everyone bitching when Josh Allen/Bills didn't get the ball in the "13 second game" was instrumental in Patrick Mahomes/KC's 2nd SB in a row. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The new rule didn’t actually do anything, unless the niners had scored a TD the chiefs would have gotten a drive anyways, but it does make the niners decision to receive the ball a bit questionable

The year before the 13 seconds game, the Chiefs asked the league to change the overtime rules to allow both teams to get the ball after they lost to the Patriots. But the owners didn’t allow the change. Buffalo was one of the teams that voted against it. Karma.
@@edgarmcanderson6991Yep, after the Dee Ford offsides game vs Brady they tried to get the rules changed but it got voted down. So instead what did they do? Oh thats right. They did the same thing to the Bills. Then everyone wanted the rules changed. Wouldve been poetic if the Chiefs voted no just out of principle.

If I remember correctly, even under the old rules, the Chiefs would have gotten the ball again anyways because the Niners only managed a field goal.

The new OT rules really didn't come into play as even in the old rules, the Chiefs still would have gotten a shot because the 49ers only got a field goal. Rules only would have played a part if 49ers scored a TD.

My family is life-long Chiefs fans. My dad is 66, I'm 42, my son 20. I tell my son every Sunday that we are so blessed right now! We watch every game at my dad's house
The Steve Young super bowl was one of the first super bowls I was old enough to remember. But being from missouri, it's fun to see the Chiefs have a good run after so many decades of futility.
