How to Register for the USMLE STEP 1 Exam | for IMGs

- 🗂️Hi guys! Here's a step by step video on how to register for the STEP 1 exam. This is actually a summary of the whole process. I hope it helps those of you who are still confused as to how it works.
🚩NOTE: You can also take the STEP 1 exam before graduation as long as you have finished two years of medschool and your school is listed under FAIMER

FYI: You can also take STEP 1 as a medical student as long as you are done with your 2nd year. You won't have to submit your diploma since you will be taking it as a student and not as a graduate.
what to do if the diploma is in Ukrainian as well as in English language? still need to translate it ?
Do you still need to ask for MSPE as a medical student who has just finished there second year?

Then what kind of documents I should have as a medical student except diploma as you said it is not needed for student

Hello doc, I just wanted to ask if you don't mind if how many publications do you have? And how many specialties can you apply for the matching? Since it is very risky if you only apply for surgical positions, it must always have a back up plan such as primare care including pedia and IM

Hi Sarang thanks for making the tutorial! I accidentally added step 2 CK while registering for step 1 and is now forced to choose an eligibility period for step 2. Do you know how to remove the unwanted step 2? (since I'm not ready for any of the period)

Hey, try emailing them with your ecfmg id number on the email. Inform them that your school has sent all your documents etc. They may get back to you sooner if you haven't heard back from them yet.

Hi Sarang, i just wanted to know about form 327A, when do we have to submit it? after accepting my application for step1, I am yet to receive the scheduling permit. But, my OASIS says that ECFMG has sent form 327A to my med school for verification. Please help

What if you haven’t graduated from your medical school and want to give step 1
@@uzairmunafMD You can still do so as long as you are done with your 2nd year. No need to submit your diploma. Just start the ecfmg certification and process the form 186 then apply for step 1.

Hello. I applied for an ECFMG id and it came back with the name not in capital letters as is on the passport. Only the first letter of each name is in capital. Is that error? And should I fill in for change in name?

Hi! Yes you can take it too as a medical student as long as you're done with the first two years of medschool. Your school will just have to confirm that you are a student enrolled in your school. :)

Hello, I did ECFMG online authentication for getting Identification number, but after i submitted i realised that I did one mistake , as I only have one name which supposed to be put in the last name field i by mistake entered in rest of name field. Can this mistake be corrected?

To fill the Form 186(Certificate of identification) with NotaryCam, do I need a soft copy of my signature or will I just be asked to write my name in the place designated for my signature?
They will ask you to sign during the notary cam. No need to prepare a soft copy of your signature. They'll make you check your name and make you choose the font of your online signature via notary cam.

Yup pretty much! You just have to submit the online application for it once you're done with step 1 :)

Transcript of records is your school grades. MSPE should be prepared by your school. If they are not aware of it, you can inform them to search on the AAMC website. There is a sample there. If you have a copy of your documents, you can submit them yourself via this link: uploadcredentials.ecfmg.org/
Hey do we need to fill the form by taking out a printout and upload pdf or directly online only??
So you have to mark the eligibility period and paid approx. $1000 even before setting a date and having all the paperwork done by the schooL? What is the purpose of marking an eligibility period if you cannot set a exam date right then?
Hello, regarding the Item 22, I have not yet graduated from my medical school and in our country (India) we get diploma only after we get graduated, so can you please tell me what option should I select?
You can see it here in this video (th-cam.com/video/WMsIB7I5p7Y/w-d-xo.html) but Item number 17 will ask you whether you are still a student or a graduate. If you select that you are still a student, item 22 won't ask you about the diploma. Check out the video I linked it's all there! :)

Hi! You don't have to pick your exam eligibility yet if you don't apply for the exam. And if you do submit the online application for the exam and don't feel ready, you can postpone your eligibility period. You might just have to pay a fee to do so.

You have to schedule the notary! Once you schedule it, they will email you.

Yes you can! You'll just have to submit the Form 186 and say that you're a medical student on the step 1 application online. :)
Additional info: but you must be done with 1st two years of medical school to be able to sit for the exams. (Based on ecfmg info booklet)

Things keep changing each year, so it's good to check the ecfmg website regularly. Also, ecfmg certification will change starting 2024, so check the updates on their website! :)

Hii I have applied for usmle step 1 application on October 2021 but at the end of application ECfMG didn't ask me to submit my diploma. But my application was processing later when I sent them the email they have told me that I have not submitted the diploma . I uploaded the diploma in ecfmg credentials upload tool becoz my school is having ECfMG web portal and I didnt get any form 186 to fill also at the end of application. My application now got rejected and they mailed me that I haven't submitted my diploma and they asked me to reapply again and submit diploma. I reapplied again on Feb 1st 2022 and uploaded my diploma ECfMG credentials upload tool becoz at the end of application I didn't get any thing to submit my diploma it just went back to first page after finishing the application . Please help me regarding this is there anything which I'm missing . How should I send them my diploma ?
