Another Update - Per ECFMG, In order to make life easier for most IMGS, for the first few years, even if your country does not have wfme accreditation after 2024, you can still apply with pre 2024 criteria (WDOMS Post 2024 + Sponsor Notes). Similarly for the first few years post 2024, even if your country gets WFME accredited, the individual medical school must also be in WDOMS + Have Sponsor Notes.

yep u can start now, no matters how long u wait to do the steps. The only thing that is important to remember is that after u do the steps, are valid for 7 years so u need to apply for medical residency before that time comes by ( its a lot of time, dont see a problem)
I think a lot goes into practicing medicine as an international medical graduate. Having gone through all this, exams, money involved and application process for residency and all that!!!!, is it really worth it, financially and socially considering the entirety of practicing in the US? Hmmmm!!!!
I just talked to ECFMG, and they told me that in addition to National Medical Commission (NMC), which is the regulatory board for Medical colleges in India, being recognized by WFME, the medical college should also have a ECFMG sponsor note. This is directly from ECFMG. I called their phone number on their website.

"You may not submit the credentials required for ECFMG Certification to ECFMG until you apply for an exam. If you send credentials to ECFMG before you apply for an exam, they will not be processed."

For example I study in Romania, and Romania is listed as accredited by the IAAR agency, which is the WFME recognized agency. Is that enough? or should my uni specifically be accredited by IAAR? So basically if a country is accredited, does that mean all uni inside the country are eligible for ecfmg or should each uni be accredited individually?

I understood that after the form 186 process, it's valid for 5 years (that means you can give the steps before 2028)

Now my question is one of my colleagues asked for degree verification by there EPIC and he got to know about that. This degree is not willing to go for USMLE and now I am worried about this. I just passed MCI and now working as an intern doctor in India. But I have questions that after this internship I will get the completion of it so may I be eligible for usmle fun basis of internship completion?
Because my college is ECFMG certified, so that's why I am worried about this whole confusion

Good day chief. I'm from Africa Nigeria. Wanted to register for the ecfmg but from ur video I noticed no African/Nigerian medical school is on registered yet with WFME however it's on WDOMS but now it's 2024 already, as u stated that ecfmg now uses WFME in 2024.
How do I go abt this? Can I still register for ecfmg irrespective?
as long as your school has sponsor notes you can proceed. No need for WFME as of now
