Such a beautiful legacy of Greek & Roman culture
Beautiful byzantine church 😍
Here before the Islamist comes to say “ITS A MOSQUE FOR HOLY KORAN MUHAMMAD SOMETHING SOMETHING”
AMAZING
Wow 🤩. These videos and commentaries are amazing 🤩
Thank you.
1:45 "This is a heavenly space"
Agreed. Even in the pictures this seems ethereal.
Heaven And Earth Shall Pass away...But My Word will never
Now I know why Mary and John the Baptist are represented as surrounding Christ. I love the colors of Mary - soft blues, purples, pinks, a little grey green-y going on.. It comes together so beautifully and suits her expression.
What caused the damage of the mosaics was not the coverage but an earthquake. Although it had been turned into a mosque, the mosaics were not harmed, rather just covered when Ottoman Empire conquered Istanbul in 1453. They were cleaned and renovated when Hagia Sofia started functioning as a museum in 1935.
Mosaic is damaged through big earthquake in 1894.
Thank you for this information...i thought that the indifference of the ottoman authorities had caused this lost of byzantine art...
