Explore our virtual 3D reconstruction of ancient Rome as it looked in the mid-4th century CE, around year 360, at the turn of the Pagan and Christian eras.
We are the "History in 3D" team and our goal is to create the most detailed, accurate and complete 3D reconstruction of ancient Rome.
In this video we show the most significant places in the center of the Eternal City and speak about the progress of our project during 2023. Particular attention was paid to the details of the Colosseum, the Capitoline hill, as well as the luxurious interiors of the Basilica of Maxentius and the Temple of Venus and Roma. We are adding more colorful realistic elements - painted statues, reliefs and ornaments, colored plaster, rich varieties of marble.

It's a great honor for me that you recommended my channel at the very beginning of your wonderful video! Thank you for the support you have shown me from the very beginning ❤️✌️ I wish you a Happy New Year! THANK YOU🎉
Thank you dear friend for your wonderful content! Happy coming New Year!🎉
Oh look it's our favorite ancient sites girl! Haaai!! 🙋♂ ❤
OMG!!! THAT'S THE BEST REFERRAL EVER!!!
THANKS 👍
@@historyin3d Some other video i watched claimed the coliseum was tiled on outside with marble and got looted by invading army.
@@JohnnyAtlas throw that video to trash then. Colosseum facade was never faced with marble. Just travertine.
When standing among ancient ruins I always longed to go back & see everything the way it once was. This is the next best thing to that! Thank you for making it possible! ❤
Thank you!
This buildings existed when the most of the world's people were living in mud huts
Yeah me too
We can't say ancient world have less science or technology
Rome was not built in 1 day but Surely built by 1000000000 slaves each of that days.
my dream time travel back to ancient Rome came true! what a fantastic virtual reconstruction !!!
my pleasure!
Nella realtà ti troveresti in una metropoli congestionata dal traffico, con problemi di smaltimento rifiuti... Rumorosissima... Piena di graffiti... In pratica, puoi visitarla oggi...
My dream is to visit Rome in the nearest future
@robertsimon6674 Then you should play Assassin's Creed 2 game.
I’d go back and help my ancestors SACK it again !!! … the ancient Romans were arrogant bullies that killed millions of people and subjugated the survivors !!!
Old Rome looks better than today's Rome. So much for progress.
I want to walk around in this in VR. The amount of work laid down into this is astounding. Thank you for making it available to us who love history and architecture 😀
Thank you! We're working on it.
@@historyin3d I just visited here a couple of weeks ago. Even with a tour guide it is hard to appreciate the grand scale of everything in a short tour. A VR rendition would be ASTOUNDING. I would pay money for that.
@@historyin3d I asked for this 1-2 years ago, maybe longer. Glad you guys are working on it.
@@Armis71 yes, quite a hard and long process. But we won’t abandon it.
@historyin3d Great! The main reason many people are asking for VR is that you're not limited on just certain views. With VR, you can stand anywhere you want and view Rome at any angle you want. You can fly, hover, walk the streets. It's going to be amazing!
Absolutely mesmerizing! This virtual 3D reconstruction of ancient Rome is a true masterpiece. The "History in 3D" team has flawlessly captured the essence of the mid-4th century CE, showcasing the iconic landmarks of the Eternal City. The attention to detail in the Colosseum, Capitoline hill, Basilica of Maxentius, and Temple of Venus and Roma is truly impressive. The addition of colorful elements like painted statues and reliefs adds a vibrant touch. Thank you for sharing your incredible progress with us. I'm eagerly looking forward to more stunning updates from your project!
Thank you for such a positive feedback!
Great to see it in colour, the Romans were quite the architects of Europe.
Thanks! Yes, real colors are in our priority, and there will be more!
Wow, every video of the ancient Rome that I see is very impactfull. Rome was huge and a very impressive city, these videos just makes me cry a little bit because of the great marvels we lost. Thank you for the recreation!! 💯
Thank you!
Magnificent, brilliant, and what a testament to true dedication for those who honor ancient Rome! ❤
Seeing this was like a dream come true..I've created these images in my head everything I've read/watched something on antiquity. A gift for a history buff
I have watched this video several times and during each one I discover new details. My deepest gratitude to you for recreating the mighty Rome, its influence still rules the world. Such a beautiful city!! The roman arquitects and engineers were the best.
You guys have done an amazing job. It seems so realistic!
Thanks!
Fantastic! These reconstructions must take a huge amount of time to research and to produce. Thank you so much - and a very Happy New Year - from Oxford, UK.
Thanks!
This is incredible. As a classics student it was a real eye-opener to see buildings reconstructed that I've literally just been studying for my course! 👏 👏 👏 ❤
Thanks, nice to hear!
Fantastic and incredible as always. Keep up the amazing work guys.
Thank you!
Really European history and civilization is very fantastic and interesting, European have influenced every corner of the world.Love from Asian country Nepal 🇳🇵 plz🙏 keep up .
Thank you! Asian culture is rich as well ❤
Modern European civilization is built by those who destroyed Rome not by those who created it.
I really love these videos. As a reasonably frequent visitor to Rome I love trying to visualise where I would be and what it would look like if I could be transported back in time. I wonder if it would be possible to sometimes overlay a map of the modern city just in order to clarify exactly where each monument etc is/was in relation to where we stand today. Watching the video can be a bit confusing especially when the camera flies around and changes direction quickly. But these videos are just breathtaking! Thank you!
Thank you for your feedback!
Your recreation of ancient Rome is by far the most accurate and detailed that I have ever seen. You are doing a great job for all people who want to learn more about how the city of Rome looked during its peak. Thank you very much for all the work you put into this excellent 3D model, and all the best from Maiorianus.
Thank you colleague! 🙌
This travel in time is mind-blowing and your work is invaluable. Thank you.
Thank you
As a lifelong seeker of everything history..and from my earliest childhood..I have wanted to set my eyes upon the works and wonders of the ancients. Roman, Greek and Egyptian histories were my very first primary school history lessons, and I had a woman history teacher who told history and history's stories from a human point of view and with all calm dedicated human heart..she was the best history teacher I could have ever imagined..she taught our class so well that she had 8 year olds in absolute awe for everything history..and..as a wonderful teacher she had time for any and all enquiries from eager to learn questioning young minds..even if she was on lunch break. A teacher worthy of praise love and much respect..then..now..and forever always.
This gentle calming voiced intelligent sweet souled woman was the spark that ignited many of my classmates fire for all things history..a warming learned fire that still glows fierce and warm in our spirits to this very day.
Thankyou for sparking the kindling teach..knowledge seeking still glows bright in a new 21st digital world. 🤘🙂💜
And I love discovering this channel just today..your works are incredible and inspiring to the young mind who grew to an adult who continues to seek out all things history, especially my favourite three time periods. I would love to see the ship building areas and docks for the Roman fleet..and.even the merchant shipping...if possible?.please???
Just a thought from a adult history fiend with still the spirit of a lad within.
Great Channel people..keep up the most excellent work..liked immediately.. Subbed instantly.🤘😁♥(/-\)..
How amazing would it have been to walk the streets of ancient Rome? Thank you for all of the hard work that went into this project.
I've always been fascinated by Rome. You did an amazing job. I can imagine myself being there as I watch in addition to what I already know.
Thank you!
Rome wasn't built in a day, nor should a virtual reconstruction. Nice progress so far.👍
Very true! Thanks!
Cette reconstitution de chef d’œuvre est un chef d’œuvre. Un très grand merci. 👍❤️
Merci!
Beautiful! Imagine being able to walk through in VR, with sounds of people and birds flying around. I wish I could be transported to some stone steps in the shade of an Italian stone pine to read a book all day😊
Oh for a time machine to go back for just one day and witness Romes splendour 1st hand.
Thank you for a fantastic insight into how it once was.
thank you!
An amazing accomplishment! The best such video I have seen, and the musical background is perfect.
Wow, thank you!
This is so enjoyable! I no longer feel the need to see it as it is! Thank you for posting!!!
A challenging and beautiful work.
I met an elementary school teacher who upon her return from a trip to Rome set to work telling ever class she had after that how great Rome was.
Apparently she though if she lived in those days she would live in a villa with slaves waiting on her - rather then being one.
Thank you! Rome was indeed the great civilization with own flaws.
Glory to Rome
Yes.
Tragic how such a magnificent, and stunning city fell into the ruins of today. 😢 Of course Rome had it's slum areas as well, but the Imperial structures and palaces, along with the homes of the wealthy must of been something else!! Thank you for an excellent presentation!!😊
This video is so good it makes me get emotional. Superb work, guys. 👏👏👏
Thank you!
Wonderful job!!!!!! It's the more realistic project I've been seen till now!!!! Thanks a lot
Thanks!
I am writing a book set in Rome between AD 47-62, but this reconstruction is still extremely useful to me. Thank you for all the work you have done to incorporate the latest knowledge about the city into this visualization of it.
The best purpose for 3D: recreate these places. I love this!
Excellent Virtual #3D of Magnum Opus Rome
Très belle reconstitution. C'est impressionnant de voir à quelle point cette ville de Rome pouvait être moderne, sophistiquée et développée. Cette vidéo donne une nouvelle dimension à l'histoire.
Magnificent! The detail and realism are astounding. More!
Wonderful work as always, thanks for this gorgeous and immersive video...
Thank you!
Just wonderful ❤
Thank you for your dedication
Thank you
A lot of work was put into this, how marvelous!
Thank you! Yes, lots of work already.
I always loved ancient Rome. To see it in such beauty is unbelievable. Life within the empire was a lot better than the life outside the empire. Thanks for this incredible video.
thank you!
Excellent video production, along with all the work that goes before it: research, recreation, writing, editing, etc, etc. Have a wonderful 2024!
Thanks! You too!
This is stunning! I never really stopped to really think about the implications of this: the styling, elegance, massiveness, and details put nearly all of our current architecture to shame. What we build or make now rots (wood), rusts (metal) or breaks (plastic) and has a very limited life-span. I know it's all about cost savings and short-term profits, but I see stone and brick buildings from the 1600s and 1700s in my area that are still intact and being used. Stone isn't a good choice in areas with earthquakes, though.
Stupendo. Grandi professionisti.
Many thanks from Brazil. Exquisite work!!!
Amazing work and very realistic ! More of that please because I’m a big fan of Roman history ❤
Thank you!
Ricostruzione stupenda. ❤
Fantastic Rome in 3D. I've never seen such a detailed view.
Simply spectacular. Thank you.
An incredible and fantastic vídeo - a true masterpiece.

Just amazing !! Thank-you 🇮🇹
Breath-taking. Great work.

Breathtaking, truly Breathtaking!!
Just imagine the work you could get as an artist and painter. I would have a good job there. So much work!
ESPETACULAR!

Glorious work!
Thanks!
It's fascinating to see it reconstructed to such an effect
Love this! ❤ Beautiful done!!
Thanks!
Fantastic work! The Romans were great.
Thanks. Yes they were.
Wow! Just Wow!!
Amazing job👍 Congratulations and Greetings from Belgium 😉🇧🇪👋
It would be a pleasure to be able to walk as tourist on those streets.
Rome (Roma in Latin) looks great even compared to today's worldwide touristic attractions.
What a wonderful, incredible work.
I love it. ❤
Avete fatto un lavoro fantastico. Io dico: grazie a voi!
Probably the best 10 minutes I have spent on youtube.
Your work is greatly appreciated! Greetings from a classicist from the Netherlands.
Thank you!
Ancient Rome was so magnificient and it could dwarf modern metropolises today.
Amazing! Just amazing!
Something incredible ❤️❤️❤️
Grazie.
The sheer size of Claudius' temple complex has always fascinated me. Does ayone know why it had such large dimensions?
Why not? Actually it has been started by Nero, and was a part of Domus Aurea complex, which was enormous. So it is one of the explanations.
WHY! TO BE ABLE TO FIT THE GIANTS VISITING THOSE PLACES OFCOURCE! 😊🤗 THAT'S WAT TODAY'S WORLD LACKS BASICALLY NOWDAYS! ' GIANT FRIENDLY TEMPLES '😌☝
Breathtaking. Well done. The Romans would be honored.
Extraordinary, sumptuous and grand, Thank you
Very good work. It will be great to walk around in a PC, game console or VR 😀
Will be!
Someday we will be able to take a tour through ancient Rome, in virtual reality, and it will look as real as if you were there. Of course 100% historical accuracy cannot be achieved, but it will be impressive.
Yes, it's one of our goals as well.
@histWow
Including the Holodeck oryin3d
I had no idea how beautiful Rome was at that period of time.
Fantastic! Great improvements.
Very impressive!
Thanks!
Hopefully someday they will able to build actual 3d printed models of most of this and be placed it in Rome. They do have massive parks in Rome like Villa Ada that is 180 hectares in size. Hopefully they will be able to fund it but with 3d printing should not be too expensive. Now a days they use recicled plastic utencils as an excellent material to create its bead.
why not)
Not only an amazing accomplishment, but you narrate it too.
Who could ask for anything more?
Oh my, I'm dumbstruck by what you can do. Its magnificent!! Your level of knowledge and capabilities are beyond next level. I really enjoyed the little travel to ancient Rome. Thank you.
Amazing !!
Thanks!
Wooooooow! It will have cost a fortune to make Rome look like that. It was a jewel as they say in italian.
Yes it really was.
Exceptional. What a marvelous reconstruction. Bravo!
Marvelous, Excellent work. This is art too, like a painting, a true masterpiece👍👏👏 .
#Wonderful.
Thank you!
Something tells me that a 3 bedroom house in a decent neighborhood wouldn't be cheap. Nice city though. Architecture used to matter once upon a time.
yes, thanks.
