Wow. The BEST vid thus far on directing and vectoring fire. Really great content.

I volunteered with the NYS Forest Service when I was a teen to fight brush fire in the mountains. This reminds me of when we were setting backfires...lol We were instructed the same way you were doing it. Man I miss doing that... I LOVED that job!!

I didn't know how precise you could be with a Controlled burn. Very interesting.

Welcome to Spring training. I assume these are new members that are being taught the ropes so they will not be caught in a bad situation that could cost them their life or major injuries. I am sorry for your losses friend, but accidents do happen now and then, so these new people are being trained so they will not get into danger. Been there and done that years ago.

    Are you wearing welding gloves?

Yes because they rock. Great question. I should shoot a video on just my gloves. So why welding gloves? You will never burn your knuckles like you do with normal leather gloves. Normal leather work gloves are only really good for swinging a hand tool. They are OK for firefighting. If you never really work with the fire in your hip pocket (or your face), then any leather work glove will work just fine (everyone has a preference, find the one you like). But if you are a prescribed firefighter, then you are working with fire much closer than most firefighters. The gauntlet style welding glove is great because, unlike fire gloves with cuffs, they vent. In 26 years of firefighting I have only had two embers get into my glove, So the cuff seems useless for me. So they are cooler than “firefighting gloves.” Additionally mop-up is much easier as you can move hot woodies without dancing around about to hold them. What I like most is that I can grab any barbed wire fence (or thorn tree) and get over it without having to think at all. So I love them. They are dirt cheap, so if you are supplying your crew, it’s easy. And people generally don’t walk off with them.
