Guy makes some awesome knives, I was fortunate to find his shop in Gettysburg before he moved to Idaho. I basically walked in said I was a huge fan and long story short I walked out with a new GSO 10 that I personally watched him put the scales on that I picked out . It was an honor especially after I found out he was a fellow Marine!
I have the 5.1...it is by far the best knife I own. Used it to cut through thick phone books...batoned through hard wood...cut off branches...and countless other uses. It stayed hair popping sharp for a long time. Tough to resharpen, but its worth it. Plus if you send it back to Survive Knives they will re-sharpen it for free!!!
I always love the crazy emphasis on "feather sticking". This knife CAN FEATHER STICK!!! Nice steel heat treat combo on those though.
Was there a crazy emphasis or did I just make a feather stick?
Hoping that mine will ship soon, was able to get in on the most recent run of these. Been wanting it for such a long time (literal years). Great review as always!
Thinking of making the 5.1 my next knife purchase because of your video reviews on them, its nice to know they let you choose what goes on you knife. I'm going 5.1 because I personally prefer a choil on my blades. Keep up your awesome videos definitely one of my top 5 favorite channels. P.S. don't feel embarrassed reading the spects, you can't always remember every little detail on an item man, I like the fact that you have notes.
Awesome. Thanks. Haha. Yeah. Got to have the notes
Damn it, making it hard to decide which bigger knife to get! Nicely done once again😁
It's a struggle. Ha
Good test video for the GSO 5. I will check it out. Also I'm always looking for a good lightweight knife for backpacking. Bob
love my 4.1 never had any problems out of it, only issue was with the sheath. the clip on back broke, that was after 4 months of EDC.
Thanks for the Video! I own last yrs GSO 10 Love big blades. Also have pre ordered the New GSO 7/7 and I'm Checking the New Look of the revised GSO 10 I just may have to preorder that one. I'm digging that New Design.Oh,Thanks Guy for producing Quality Tools...
Beautiful knife man! I love those scales, right up my alley. Kinda reminds me of a BK2.

Isn't that camo canvas micarta? Seems like in a newer video about the GSO-5.1 you bring this knife out for comparison and refer to it as micarta?
Looks like beast! Love it!
Similar to my Ontario Falcon Ranger, thanks brother
love survive knives. Got a GSO 3.5 in CPM20CV and a SK4. My only complaint is that they are always sold out, and somehow I miss every short opportunity to buy the ones I want. Do you prefer the 5.1 with choil or the 5 without? Still looking to get my first survive in CPM3V
nice review of a very cool nice IMO. But they are so hard to get because they're always sold out lol
1:21 - Guy customized it for you. Nice BSS engraving!
between this and the jordan raptor production knife, which would you grab in a hurry out the door...
Which knife would be your go-to one-knife option of these Survive GSO's?
5, 5.1, 4.7, or 7/7?
Awesome blade
I couldn't find this in any of your videos, but which do you prefer - the ESEE 5 or the GSO-5?
GSO-5 of course. It's a better knife
BlackScoutSurvival Sweet, and thanks much. Semper Fi, bro.
Gotta agree with Jack. Survive GSO wipes the floor with Esse. 1095 cannot compete with CPM-3V.
I hope you just got that 5 cause that means they are shipping I hope
Very nice!
Still no sharpened spine on those knives?
Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors I believe Survive! Knives' new redesigns of their models will all have a sharper spine on them. The older models did not. I saw a demo of one in action and it seems to throw sparks just fine.
Yes. New models have sharp spine
Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors It looks like some other people have mentioned it already but moving forward all of our new production knives will have sharper spines. The tumbling required to create the stonewashed finish created rounded corners. Our new peened finishing process keeps the crisp edges and lines, while also creating a more durable surface. I'm really pleased with it.
That's fantastic! That was my only complaint with the older knives.
+SURVIVE! So a ferro notch isn't necessary then? I just placed a pre-order on a 7/7 with the notch option but if I could through sparks without it I like the knife better without it. Does the notch throw more sparks?
sweet knife bro. SF
Thanks Semper Fi
As of 8/29/2017 Jack I just found a Survive GSO 5.0 in mint condition on Ebay from a high rated seller. Ended up paying 360.00 but its like they say buy once cry once? Anyways the way I see it this knife isn't even made anymore so I feel like I snagged a collectable.
@Southerngunner 87 Shoot us an email if you get this message. We'll gladly replace that broken belt clip.
too bad your review arrives now that survive doesn't offer it anymore
elcas20012003 I think the short story behind this is this blade was sent to BlackScout with the intention of him seeing how it performs with new heat treat protocols on 3V steel (to make it a little more corrosion resistant if I understand correctly). As far as I know from the instagram feed, the new heat treat process works well. I suspect you might be able to pick up a recent GSO 5 on Bladeforums if you keep your eye out.
+Bansidhe001 thanx for the details, i am still happy to use my 5.1
+elcas20012003 The 4.7 should be pretty close.
nice knife. i can do better
