  • Thailand is concerned about the situation in Myanmar after the military junta lost control of a strategic city on the Thai border. After days of fighting with resistance forces, the army has withdrawn from the commercial center of Myawaddy. A steady stream of people are trying to flee the country.
It is the latest setback for Myanmar's military regime, which faces growing rebel resistance and a sharp decline in popular support.

I see a lot of people in the comment section( particularly from Myanmar) hate the word "rebels". Rebel is not a bad word in English. Look at Thai neighboring countries
    - Cambodia, Million people fled to Thailand during Khmer Rouge. Once the war end. Many Cambodian workers work in Thai and send money back. nowadays we still donate money and cooperate project to help them escape from low income country BUT they still make a conflict with us all the time.
-Laos, one of the countries that has highest inflation rate in the world. Economy is collapsing for years and industry sectors are suffering from shortage of worker since they come to work in Thai. We still donate and help them as well.
-Myanmar, the country that falling apart and being a failed state. Thai need to prepare for exodus, drug problem, human smuggling and many border problems.
Do you think we, Thai people, happy to see our neighbors being like this? How can we get benefits from this situation?
We want to trade with the country that has stability and strong economy like Malaysia or Vietnam NOT the failed state because the volume of trade would be MUCH higher and there will be less border problems.

The differences between Africa and Myanmar, Myanmar is the neighbor country of China. On the other hands, most of Myanmar citizen hate the china . They are trying to make economic or political contact with west and China don't like this. They can't approach Myanmar like the way they approach to the Africa. If the western influence control the Myanmar, that will be the same situation like Ukraine. China need to approach Myanmar like they are not as intended to colonize by economy but as the neighboring friend country who want to help and establish the stability of Myanmar.

The Chinese foreign policy is pretty neutral in reality, they didn't interfere in the conflict until it started to interfere in the Chinese themselves. Yes, China didn't wanted this kind of instability next door, in a country were they invested a lot of money in infrastructure projects, but there are things that matters more than that and, recently, China had problems with scammers from Myanmar that were acting in China and the actual government didn't act against them, on the contrary, the rebels could provide China with a answer to this problem.

China gave The Tatmadaw support at the beginning, but they have become displeased with them and when The Shan Army took the border towns in Shan State, China was very grateful because The Shan expelled the scam centres that were based there which had been troubling China. China's goal is to build a highway from Yunnan to an Indian Ocean port, thus reducing shipping time tremendously. If The NUG can provide that then China is happy to support them. The Tatmadaw has not been able to deliver that. Incidentally, that highway would also facilitate trade from other countries going into China as well, so it can be a win for Western exports too, and could also cut costs on their imports.

Unfortunately, all I can see in the future for the Myanmar people is continuous civil war, even when they defeat the military junta. History has shown that whenever a coalition manage to defeat their common enemy, they will then turn on each other to fight for control/power, this will be true especially when the coalition is made up of different ethnic groups that has historically hated each other.
