First hoop lays flat on the floor (base/foundation). Second and Third hoops are 2 side walls (touching together at the top, but wide at the bottom, inside the base). Fourth and Fifth hoops are the other 2 side walls that get placed next. You can also place a 6th hoop as the roof, holding everything together for extra stability, but it's not needed.
I don't play this as a dodgeball game (ie, if players get hit, nothing happens). But I suppose you could implement dodgeball rules if you want. If you did, I'd do something like: if a player is hit, he goes off to the side until the player who hits him gets hit. Up to you!
How far away from the castles should the blockers be. I'm thinking of they are too close it may be too difficult. I am going to try this tonight in our youth group. I don't have enough hula hoops, so I'll only be making one castle on each team. I'll also be using extra large plastic bowling pins as make-shift castles. Not the most stable, but it'll do until we can buy more hula hoops. I also have some extra cones, so I may stack those (one in top of two).
@ with your situation, you could try the blockers being a couple or few feet in front of the castle (use a line or cones to form the ‘no guard behind’ line. Or you could be surprised and try it how it is and see - it might work!
We played and were short on kids. So we used one builder(with some assist from other leaders) and 2 blockers. Spaced the blockers zone about 2 feet in front of the castles and that worked out well. The large bowling pins were not great, so we stood 2 up next to each other to make a larger target and that helped. No one knocked down all 3 castles but the final score was 13-7. After Christmas break we should have more kids and more hula hoops. Everyone(including me) is really looking forward to it again. We loved the game. Thanks so much to you and Deric.
Thx❤🎉
Your channel help me alot!
Are the castle builders allowed to guard the castles?
They only build and toss balls back unto play
I play that game in my italian school in Senago
Can you explain how to build the castles? It's hard to see how they are built

Do normal dodgeball rules apply to the launchers? If they get hit do they sit out? Or if they catch a ball is the thrower out?
