Trump declines another debate with Harris, criticizes her Oprah interview | ABS-CBN News

- Former U.S. President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Saturday (September 21) rejected another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris before the U.S. presidential election, hours after the Democratic candidate's campaign said she had agreed to an Oct. 23 matchup with her Republican rival on CNN.
"The problem with another debate is that it's just too late. Voting has already started," the former U.S. president told supporters at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Trump arrived in grand fashion, flying over a cheering crowd before landing his plane at the well-secured venue.
Addressing the enthusiastic supporters behind a protective glass, Trump criticized Harris’ campaign event hosted by Oprah Winfrey on Thursday where the Vice President made a seemingly unguarded comment on gun ownership. “Oprah was, like embarrassed. She wanted to hide under the table,” said Trump.
Trump also took a jab at President Joe Biden referring to First Lady Jill Biden's participation at a recent Cabinet meeting, where she sat at the head of the Cabinet Room’s board table to provide an update on the progress of the White House Initiative on Women's Health Research. “Is he still the president? […] Because yesterday his wife took over the cabinet meeting,” said Trump, noting Biden hadn’t convened his Cabinet since last year.
Trump reiterated his commitment to ending sanctuary cities and bolstering law enforcement against criminals and undocumented immigrants. “I will ask Congress to pass a law outlawing sanctuary cities nationwide,” sentenced Trump to cheering supporters.
Lastly, Trump called on voters to turn out in force, declaring, "We want a landslide that's too big to rig."
North Carolina’s gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson, a key Republican ally of Donald Trump, was absent from the event following a CNN report alleging controversial past comments. Robinson, who has denied the allegations, has appeared at Trump rallies before and has said he remains in the governor's race.
