@@redraven7739 hi, although your question is addressed for Ms orchid girl, however please don't mind I share my experience, I also did what you suggest, and found Phalaenopsis is very easy for combined growing, I have 4 same type of Phalaenopsis at one point, 2 were coming in the same pot, so when I repot them I didn't sperate them, they were growing in the same pot, other two I pot them individually, I notice the two growing together actually doing much better, both not only grow a lot of roots, also one large leave within four months, one I accidentally knok her off the shelf, half of her largest leave break off T.T, ever since then, she angry with me, after full six months no sign of growth, finally I saw the root growing sign last week, the last one, within six month she produced a lot of new root, no sign of the leaf growth, only few days ago I notice a tinny tinny leaf tip finally show up, compare with the double growth, both almost completed their first leaf after arriving at my home. My suggestion is you definitely should give it a go, you may get very happy surprised result, especially if both same type of orchids were coming from the same patch :)

Danny, I love the fact that you are a real person and you don’t try to be fake perfect for the camera. Heartbreaking that we still have to tell people “my nails are not for you, they are for me!” Maybe eventually people will grow up and mind their own buisness. Still, you are paving the way for that to happen when you cannot be bothered by people’s rude comments. Thank you for speaking out about it.

My thought about the nail polish is the person is watching for pretty pictures versus growing orchids. I watch things for pretty pictures or happy families, so no shade to the person. I only notice the pretty nails when I really like them. ( and Danny does a lovely job.). Mostly I am attempting to care for my orchid a little better.

When i was a beginner, I was taken advantage of by members of a local society and vendors - recommending plants that were not suitable for my environment (just so that they could sell their plants, and overcharging way above the worth of the plant by actually lying to my face ). I don't belong to that society anymore, and I don't get my orchids from them any longer...

I really needed to hear this! When I first got into orchids two years back, I bought loads of discounted rescue orchids. Thanks to your channel, I had a lot of success with bringing them back from near-death but after about a year, most of them died, I think because I got complacent and just going through the motions instead of actually paying attention to how each plant was doing and adjusting my watering, fertilizing routine accordingly... I felt so guilty and discouraged, going from about 25 orchids to less than 10. Two of them had sentimental value as they were gifts 😔 I haven't had the heart to buy any more orchids since, just caring for the few I have left. Maybe I will get some more soon and have better success now that I have learnt some lessons 💜

I think you give some very good information and you have helped me 1- learn how to keep an orchid alive, 2- how to repot orchids that are getting too big, 3- deal with pests (scales scared me), 4- not to give up too soon on a sick orchid, and 5- to realize that everyone will lose an orchid that grows them (lava bursts don't like me at all). Thank you for your good work and I appreciate it.

Thank you for this! I tried orchids back in the 90s in a "green room" - thought I knew what I was doing. I didn't. All of them died. I gave up the idea of growing orchids after that experience. Then, several years ago after my iguana died, I figured I'd use his custom enclosure for orchids. Failure again. Just a couple years ago, I was tempted with a mini phal. Brought her home and she thrived in my "office". She was joined by a few more - and they too thrived. Now I have six and they all are doing well. I learned so much more through your videos and my doing some reading and figuring out where I failed the previous times. While I am now tempted to try some other varieties besides the mini phals, I will not take to heart if some don't make it. And as someone else said, and your meme at the end - yes, we all need to be happy with ourselves. Bravo!

I still do remember when I was a beginner I thought of myself badly cause I killed orchids. And mostly it's what other successful growers let the beginners think of themselves.
To your question, what else can make a damaging effect on the beginners - incomplete or just wrong advise.
I've been in fb group and most pieces of advise they gave were incomplete. Like they said "you have to put the pot into water" but never said water shouldn't be cold and so on. 🤷‍♀️

thanks for this video. my father passed away dec 1, 2021. we chose an orchid for his funeral, and then received three orchids as gifts from my employer. I've never owned any orchids before. I feel a tremendous amount of pressure to keep them healthy and alive. (due to my attachment of my dad's passing going through this grief ). They all had the wrong growing medium. I've repotted them three times in a couple weeks all because I was trying so hard to understand too quickly. (while watching your videos). I'm hoping that what i've got them growing in now plus humidity and temp levels are optimal so that they can be comfortable and grow.... thanks for your reassurance in this video... i'm only human and it will be ok no matter what happens :) i'll do my best and with your vids for help, i'll figure it out ... i'm enjoying this process.

I learned years ago at an Orchid Society meeting that everyone has orchids that does not do well for them, especially if you have a lot of them. At that time, members would bring in those orchids and they would be raffled off at the end of the meeting. Just because it doesn't grow well for you and your environment doesn't mean it won't do well in another, even if the orchid is receiving pretty much the same conditions. It happens.

I totally agree! I have a large collection (nowhere as close to yours :-P ) and each year still feels like a lesson. Even with the best care, I still end up with a random ratty looking one, and since I keep mine outside it's impossible to keep pests completely out. Have gotten to the point where I can manage pests and diseases for the most part, though my nemesis are the thrips in Florida... they come out of nowhere like a marauding horde!! It's easy to beat yourself up though when u lose one though. It's good to see videos like yours to remind that things will happen despite best efforts. lol.

I admire people who have the patience to do their nails but have witnessed that many other important tasks have been then neglected. In some career areas, it is a necessity or a good excuse. It remains an individual choice.
I bet there are youtube channels for everything which people want to see or learn about, especially nail design. Unfortunately, the chemicals make me lose my voice within minutes which makes me angry with those who look great in my household. I have heard amazing things on your channel about orchids which have really helped me to learn how to save or improve orchid life. One can become obsessed with orchids so that they become extremely important like pets. I bought four orchids at a dollar store, I looked up and they said only change them and if they're done flowering. But they didn't look happy, so I decided to move them and told my mom that I was just going to cut the spike and she could have the flowers. But in the end we decided to leave the flowers and cut them if they started to die. The media was very moldy and the roots were very tight. I don't think they would have lasted if I left them in there. They actually parked right up after I moved them, even the flowers. It's my first time getting orchids, so I was nervous at first. But after I decided it's still just a flower like all the others I've owned, I could wing it with the little things I've learned online. I got more confident and less stressed about it. I've only had them for a week, but I'm sure I can do this. Probably won't de using only fish tank water to water them like my other plants, that has way too much nutrients and the proof is how fast my other plants grow. Probably just going to use it every once in a while, just as an experiment. Just to see if they like it. It would be a good alternative to fertilizing.

Overheard at a local orchid club were three gentlemen, one of them telling the other two to throw away hundreds of orchid seedlings and not multiplying so many meristem propagations in order to limit the availability of orchids buyers and keep the prices high. I was so shocked at the meanness of these orchid sellers. Instead of spreading joy and beauty, they want as few people as possible to enjoy orchids. Thank God that orchids are found in all countries and that there are good people like u

That is shameful, old, twisted mentality which will not work any longer. I will always encourage people to 'vote with their wallets', this hobby is meant to help our minds, not put us in debt. No need to collect rarities if we cannot afford them, no applause for buying the rarest, most expensive plants. I will applaud everyone who will have the most beautiful and healthy, common orchids, enjoying discovering them and how wonderful these plants work. That will be my 'influence' as an influencer.

I've found your videos to be very helpful! I've always wanted to grow orchids and other than a couple of store bough phals that I've somehow managed to keep alive was to nervous to try. Having more time at home this past year, I gave it a try, ordered a "grab bag" of orchids - had no clue what was coming - thought it would be best to experiment. Mostly I got seedling cattleyas, that doubled in size over the summer but a good variety of dendrobium, zygos, oncidiums, etc. Yes I did lose a couple - but overall I learned a lot and even managed to get a couple of rootless orchids to survive and one is evening pushing on a bud right now! So now I'm learning what kinds can survive in my home conditions. I found your realistic approach great!

I appreciate you and all your content so much (nail polish or not), I just wish I could convince my orchids to rebloom... seems no matter what I do they just won't bloom, despite all your advice. And the weirdest one is the completely rootless mini phal who's growing a new leaf but no roots!

I think you're awesome as you are, and your orchids are fab however they are.
I've had people put me down for my choices with orchids (I really love picking up struggling orchids, and bringing them back from near death!)
It used to affect me, but I don't care now.
My wall of orchids is an attest to that XD

Glad to find someone else that likes to rescue almost dead plants. Do you have trouble discarding plahts that are about to die and are an eyesore to everyone else. I talk to them when they seem to say “water me today or I will die “ and most of them make it

Danni you do a great job! I am a beginner for 2020. I actually like seeing the imperfections in your plants. It is the way I understand what is healthy and what isn't. If you can live with it, then it's not as bad as I thought it might have been. I only have 3 orchids and an African violet... I don't think I'll make it to the size of your collection... but now I get excited every time I see a beautiful orchid in the store. And have to pull myself away from the plant so that I don't wind up overwhelmed. I already had one orchid die, then went to watch your videos to see what I did wrong. I hope you have a great day.

I could not agree more, simply thank you Danny.
I remember last year I won a giveaway, the prize was this humongous orchid arrangement of pure phalaenopsis, beautiful, colorful, showy, just elegant; keeping in mind I wanted to keep the orchids as the flowers were not that important at first, I tried repotting them, I had some knowledge, I have seen your videos and I have read tons of forums of what to do when you receive an arrangement like the one I got, what could go wrong? Well, everything went horrible, the root system of these poor plants was not in really bad shape but they did not adapt to the new media well, I watered them way too soon and where I cut the flower spikes they were molding.
I was really frustrated, very sad as I had this toxic idea in mind that phalaenopsis are just forgiving, it takes time to kill them but I had them for at least a week and they were dying on me, just two of them made it and they are on the process of recovering. Losing orchids is inevitable, even if you got knowledge and you make decisions based on what you have in mind, but sometimes it does not go as planned, I still wish I could go back in time to improve the decisions I made on behalf of the orchids. Anyway, I guess I learnt many meaningful things on the way 💚.

Thank you for honesty, right now I'm trying to bring back a couple rescue Phalenopsis and just when I see progress the orchids take a step backwards uggg. No bugs but only 5 orchids, but issues never the less.

Good on you Dani. Knowing that you make mistakes makes us novices more hopeful and confident that our skills will improve with more practise and knowledge. I'm very happy that I've got my 1st Phal growing well which is sending out it's 1st flower spike since I got it 8 mths ago. Before that, I killed off about 8 Phals but most had rotten roots in the 1st place & I didn't know how to help it. BTW-how a stranger thinks they have a right to complain about your nail polish is extremely rude - probably a misogynist.

Ugg whoever is concerned with others nails can buzz off, lol! Anyway you're absolutely right about mistakes. I reuse the vinegar bottles for rainwater. Well, i grabbed the wrong bottle and watered 2 of my orchids with vinegar!! 🙈 so i rinsed and rinsed and they seem ok so far. But yes, we're human and not perfect. So sending hugs right back to you! 🌞🌻

I was scrolling through old orchid board threads today and one of them was about how many orchids have you killed. I had such a good laugh. This video gave me good smiles too. I go on Reddit and dread seeing the bad advice (boiling bark to kill the mold growing in the pot and reusing it😱)some people give newbies and to make a point of telling people not to freak out and reassure them when things are normal! I have plenty of plants that look terrible until they look good after a recovery repot. So normal. :) Thanks for this video.

Paula from Mexico. Very good. People I watch, I check out there Environment. Then I say 0h that is why they do that! I have not met one person on line that has my environment. Like you put moss on the bottom of your orchid because of warm environment. I put stones on bottom of mine for drainage because I have a cool environment. I have that same plant you showed Conch Shell Orchid. From Belize.

Hi Danny, I liked this "back to the real world " video. It’s true that I always blame myself when an orchid doesn’t do well, but it is usually not my fault.
Thanks for this interesting video which, by the way, insisted on showing Korean subtitles.
