    There is a quicker way to set up Search Sets by Category. In the Selection Tree, switch from Standard to Properties view. Then, locate Category and expand to Name. Select the Category Name and save as a Search Set. This way it sets up your Find Items automatically. Also, you can use Shift and CTRL select to add multiple properties to your Search Set or manually create an And condition in Find Items.

    Nice, I currently pay autodesk for the full package thinking I will use navisworks for example, but after two years of subscription I am only using revit recap and unfortunately I still need autocad to open files only!

    Are there AS-BUILT info as you go (not as-builts but changes that need to be tracked). Im sure ppl cut corners. It seem like designs may say something by MEP my change in the field effecting others. What do you recomment.

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      The coordination models are updated to reflect as built conditions… it is a contractural obligation by all of the contractors and we use laser scanning and other reality capture methods to make sure it is happening.

    re: engineering - at 21:00, they should NEVER re-design, they should STOP call engineering and have a meeting, if design was done by engineering, then by any form of re-design, you are erasing any engineering done by the engineer.

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly my point... imagine how much it DELAYS a project when coordination is forced to stop and re-designing has to be done.

  • @blork6353

    Also, the language tics such as "Right?" and "Okay?" (tossed in about every ten "right"s) are very distracting. If you can constrain your leaning on these filler words during presentations it would be very helpful.

    for sharing clash detection to another consultant, i will use “reports”. but that reports should include Elements ID. Then the consultant can use “searching id tool” to locate where the clash detection is easily in Revit model. Also you can create new 3D view in revit for clash detection. then using dynamo to highlight (or assign) the clashed elements in color by clash detection Elements ID.

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I talk a bit about my "clash points" script for Dynamo here (therevitkid.blogspot.com/2017/10/why-i-learned-dynamo-and-two-things-i.html) . I thought I posted a video about the scripts itself but it doesn't look like I did.

      Doing that would awesome, but having a 3d of even 1 part of a level with all services on destroys my computer.
      Can you guys recommend a good rig to get?
      Currently using 3 workstations and the fastest one has I7 8700k, 500gb nvme, 32gb ddr4 (forot the speed) and rx580.
      I have a feeling even 10k rig would still struggle.

Constantly breaking the flow to say uninteresting things is a hindrance to the channel. I prefer a couple of other channels that have non-native English because they're still easier to listen to.

    I have been importing models from bim360 vie the coordinate tab in Navis and you can get completely hosed in a coordination meeting if someone on the team makes modifications to the publish settings then publishes before the meeting begins. I had a structural model disappear from my session removing all clashes with structure.

    WHILE IN FILE A, VIEW RANGE CUT PLAN ON 4FT TALL
    WHY IT IS NOT ABLE TO CUT (REMOVE ROOF ON FILE B) WHICH IS ABOVE MY CUT PLAN.

I would like to get more expierence using navisworks.....at least I think that's the one I need disect each line in a 3D where I can see ever turn and tie-inn point. help help please.

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Welcome! You should be able to do this in navisworks depending on what authoring tool was used to create the initial models. You might be able to just use the selection tree in Navisworks. If not, do a google search about “search sets” in Navisworks. I don’t have any videos on it but I’m sure there are some out there! Good luck!

  • @fishstix2336
    @fishstix2336 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you find it easier to use the search sets or have NWCs broken into specific trades by floors? I’m sure that it will vary depending on the size of the project, but curious of your preference.
    I’ve been using Navis for 10+ years but I always like to watch things like this to hopefully learn some new ways of doing things. Was a great show!

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, of course it’s easier to run model to model when it’s available… with trades it’s a bit easier because they usually model each discipline within its own model… however, a design MEP engineer will most likely model it ALL in one model … hence the power of search sets. Also, even if a trade contractor make separate files it’s still great to know how to pick certain pieces of those files for coordination …
