    The kids want to build a beetle together and I stumbled across the builders choice kit. Gonna watch these and determine if I want this or a turnkey

    looks like you have a nice batch of parts. I built a 2017 cc last year for my beetle. It is a little different than yours but I am quite happy with it. Should go together pretty easily for you. Cheers

      Thanks Rob. I'm hoping it goes together nice and easily. There's bound to be a few snags along the way I'm sure. Currently I'm patiently waiting for the temperatures to go up so I can paint the engine case. Should be warm enough next week.

    Does the kit come with instructions? I’ve built a few American V8 engines but never touched a VW engine. I am restoring a Karmann Ghia and was considering getting one of these kits for it.

    Don't vapour blast the inside of a VW engine case unless you want contaminates leeching into your engine oil for the life of your engine.
    Why build a 2L like that when Vw already made the 2L Type4 for the Vw 70's bus anyway?
    I assume your planning to be doing a fair bit of racing with straight cut cam gears (unnecessary for a street motor)? I didn't realise England gets that hot to warrant all that additional oil cooling? We're building 2L type1 engines to last in Australian heat which only run a very small external oilcooler (half the size of yours - your is a fairly decent size).
    Good honest unbiased unboxing vid which is good to see. I agree with you that there's a good chance they didn't balance those parts.

      @aircooledanything2415  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the heads up on vapour blasting. I've had a few done, but not put any decent miles on either. Good point about type 4 motors. Rock solid and a better solution for sure. For me, on this one, it's not about practicality, but more about fulfilling a dream of building a CB engine. I've always wanted to give it a go. A bit stupid I know. I'm not a professional, just a guy noodling in his spare time and I appreciate the advice.

    Hi, I've just ordered a CB Engine builder kit, so your video's are really helpful thanks. I want to build a 356 linkage to use with my engine and noticed you've an Okrasa engine. Do you know where I could get any plans or dimensions to fabricate my own linkage please?

    • @aircooledanything2415
      @aircooledanything2415  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah ha, that's great to hear. I hope these posts do help. Which kit did you buy and what vehicle is it for? I made my own 356 style linkage for that Okrasa motor. I'm going topost a bit more about that in a few weeks. I used a linkage bar from a 356 and the fan shroud bell crank. I then fabricated the fan brackets based on the bar. I started out copying the brackets from a 356 motor,but they didnlt fit the VW fan shroud, so I had to make bespoke brackets. Good luck.

      Hi, thanks for getting back to me and thanks for the info. I've bought a 1915cc engine which is going in a 356 replica, hence why I want an original looking Carb linkage. I'm an Engineer, so happy to fabricate. Your posts are great, really taught me a lot about the engines.
      Keep them coming!

    Good video when’s the build vid coming ? What did the kit cost

    • @aircooledanything2415
      @aircooledanything2415  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hopefully the build video is coming soon. I'm going to paint the case, but to do that I need the ambient outside temp to go up a bit here. Then it should go together quite quickly. So far the cost of all these pieces is pretty much exactly $8k. Plus shipping and import tax to the UK. So not cheap!

      @@tospicy4ya No specific number. You want the motor idling at 800-1000rpm and the numbers on each side being the same. Job done.
      Be sure to wamr the engine up first and disconnect the the throttle linkage to make sure its as accurate as can be. Good luck.
