I am a MEXT scholar too...but my result was made known to me via email. So I guess for that part it depends on which country you're from. I guess you need to clarify it with the Japanese embassy in your country if you're interested in applying.

If you can sit for any of the English tests at the time of application, I guess it's going to be an advantage but if you can't now, you can still submit the application. I got thru without sitting for the test and I am finally sitting for the TOEIC test next month here in Japan. The Listening and reading is required by some unis. I hope that answers your question.

Yes you can apply but you have to prepare for the written exam that would be of maths english and Japanese for the ssc ( humanities) or commerce student 🙂
You mentioned that the Japanese Exam is Optional. Is it so for the 2025 scholarship grantee too (for Masters and PhD. Research Scholar)? . Because I read that You have to take both English and Japanese Exam. Based on this you will directed towards a japanese Proficiency Class for 6 months and upon completing that to the University in which you were selected.

@@subha3157 listen if your class 12 just started than you have to apply in april-may 2023 but if you're class 12 ended and you are waiting for your results than ask your school where you studied class 12 for provisional certificate and apply quickly for mext near your embassy and please fill all the required documents and submit quickly do note the deadline is in may 25 so make things fast or you'll have to wait a year extra if you didn't understand what I said feel free to call your near by embassy and ask them anything. I wanted to apply for it for ug japanese studies but i couldn't since the mext exam contained questions of maths of class 11 and 12 and i didn't have the subject in my 11 and 12. What should i do? No it is not you can do your course in English. But you will have trouble getting a job. Also you may have trouble understanding what professsors say as sometimes they use Japanesee in english lectures too.

How to prepare for exam? Tips n guids
First complete your boards syllabus and go through every topic thoroughly. I have seen the last few years question papers and they ask questions from basic to a bit advanced level. So practice is required. The syllabus is the same as class 11th and 12th syllabus of the subjects you have.
