I remember when H7 was released and their hypersmooth seemed just as perfectly as the H8 shows in this video, which makes me wonder whether the author of this video had been paid to edit/unset this feature on this video - to promote the sellings of H8 instead. Somebody else here said that Gopro might have released a firmware update that downgrades H7 Hypersmoort capabilities. Whatsoever, it just shows you that something here really stinks

    • @lejrnt

Even the colors seem more alive on the H8 side... So I feel like the video was baked to promote H8 sellings...

Hypersmooth was witchcraft on the 7 at release. Now it looks like trash. I feel like it's been handicapped in the firmware so the 8 looks better. I feel like I'm being extorted.

I think the Hypersmooth improvement for the Hero 8 is pretty decent, enough to upgrade if you're into such types of shooting where you need good stabilization. With this, I am seriously considering selling my Hero 7 Black and Gimbal (as I bought an 8 anyway)... (Of course I mainly use my GoPro for hiking in national parks and other areas of interest.) It is too bad that they got rid of the removable front lens cover but luckily they still do offer a case that will cover the front lens cover element to prevent it from getting scratched.

What’s the point of the 2.0 stabilization. Its an action camera, don’t you want to see what it feels like going over bumps or the motion of stuff your doing? The hero 8 it’s too smooth, I get if your vlogging but if you bike, wakeboard anything really it will look like the cool stuff your doing isn’t actually as cool as it is.

Yes I do plan on making a beginners guide hopefully in the next few weeks. As for software for a Mac I am really not sure I’m not a Mac user myself. I edit all my videos on my iPad Pro both for TH-cam and personal

Thanks for the test! The 8 is obviously superior in stabilization, and dynamic range, but when there's a difference in how the blue of blue skies is rendered, I prefer the 7 as it's not artificially turquoise looking (I don't like to be bothered with the extra hassle of colour grading lol). The fact that the lens cover on the 8 is not replaceable is a big deal too, meaning if it picks up a scratch (likely being an action camera!) the camera is basically junk because GoPro do not offer repair for this. Conundrum. Maybe I'll just have to upgrade my 3+ black (lens scratched when it vibrated off the bridge over the Yellowstone river and hit the tarmac face first, so now into the light shots have flare from the scratch), and just keep using my gimbal with the 7.

I was thinking to save some money by getting the 7 black.. I was wonder how big of a difference it will make anyway.. This video made it ultra clear.. Can't even look at the 7 now :) Thanks for the awesome video btw!

Nice to see that comparison, but the hero 8 seems to be mounted closer to rotation center in the frame. Better for handling the movments I asume. So the hero 7 gets bigger movementsbased on that. One question I have, how does the hero 8 handle cold? I have a hero 6 and that didn’t like cold at all. I bought a Osmo action to try to see if it can handle that better. If it’s not better I’m thinking of testing the hero 8 instead.

Definite improvement by the 8. The holy grail is the elimination of the small bumping while walking and holding a camera. Not there yet.

Yes it is called the gopole triad. I’ve added a link to it in the description of the video. It’s a handy little rig great for adding lights and microphones or like I use it for mounting multiple cameras

Is this supposed to be an overall comparison of the two? If so it was just about stabilization with a quick take on some hyperlapse feature. As of now the 7 is $329 and 8 is not on sale at $399.

I'm torn between the smoothness on the 8, vs the more immersive wide angle on the 7th. I mainly just want a GoPro to take on travels for walking shots for my own memories, which do you think is better?

      not anymore
the hypersmooth high is the same crop as the hypersmooth 1.0 in the hero 7
and the BOOST stabilization is for those who wants a cinematic shoot

That was great - thank you! I have a Hero 7 Black with Karma Grip - should I upgrade? I don't know if you have access to a Karma Grip, but it would be interesting to see how the Hero 8 Black does relative to the Hero 7 Black in a Karma Grip. The Hero 8 Black is amazingly good - I would not want to guess which is more stable.

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว

The hero seven black is an excellent camera. If you’re happy with it I don’t know if it’s really worthwhile the upgrade. I do find the stabilization 8 When boost is turned on to be exceptional. I finally gets rid of a lot of that up-and-down motion that can be present on the gimbal. When I get a chance maybe I’ll do a side-by-side comparison
