    Soprano .

She's a mezzo. This aria is for a mezzo soprano. Not a Soprano. Though anyone can sing It if they have the range and the technique. Your opinion is just that. You don't have factual evidence to say she isn't right for it. Carmen was written for a mezzo. End of story. Elina is a true mezzo. I am a classically trained singer from Berklee College and also a voice teacher. I studied the history of any aria I sing.

I agree with you. She has been placed in the wrong fach. Had she been trained correctly, she would probably be a dramatic soprano.

Operatic technique requires pronouncing french differently then when it is spoken. This isn't french class, conversation, or musical theater, it places the vocal production first and subordinates pronouncation of whatever the language is to best serve that. A lighter, finer, voice singing lighter music might get away with more, but with such a rich thicker tone, she's never going to shut down the vocal line or sacrifice the freedom to color carmen in rich full tones to deliver the letter N. We only rarely pronounce Ns and other things singing french. Indeed, its literally trained out of us.

@@donizettirules the genre of the repertoire is Opera Comique. and she should at least try to fit in that genre. she lost the intimacy, sensuality, ruthlessness which lay deeply in the French language.
