This is a common problem. To save money, manufacturers use the bare minimum in wire. Cheap, thin wires means you either buy a wireless controller or keep buying wired controllers every 6 months or so.

They really should have made the cord to plug in to a connector on the board. I've got several controllers that have no apparent damage to the cord but constantly disconnect and reconnect. If you tape the cord to the back of the controller in just the right way it will stay on but it is a very annoying problem. I'll probably just cut the old one off and wire in a regular usb cable from an old printer. 360 is the only controller I've ever had this problem with.

Since you can do that multiple times if its just the cable(probably wont have to more than twice in the lifespan of the controller). But maybe you have someone or something that ruins your cables and you do it often. If you dont want it to become too short you can remove less insulation and solder wire to wire if you feel comfortable. If you do that you should buy heat shrink.

Controller just stopped working while I was playing a game last night. I thought it was the cord simply because of how long I've had it. Cut out the section I thought was bad, soldered the wires back in and plugged back in... still didn't work. Tried it on my laptop, it then worked.... So I restarted the first computer and surprise, it worked.
SO after all that, all I ended up doing was wasting several hours plus unnecessarily shorten my cable by a few inches lol
Stupid computer. Thanks for the video nonetheless!

Awesome thanks. Video could have been a tad better but overall good job. I've been looking for something to fox for my otg cable when it gets here. I made an otg cable but it keeps shorting out probably because I'm not the best with solder. Honestly I got an otg cable to initially turn my phone into a sort of half assed laptop or desktop. May piss some call of duty players off but it's all in fun and seeing what I can make technology do that most don't realize. I mean hell have you ever hooked a floppy drive to a phone. It's fairly useless but fun

Mine did the same so I used a cable wire tie thing (those twisty ones you always find on new cables, or just bread package)
Tied it up at the top in way similar to this video: th-cam.com/video/HhZ_FwdxOsc/w-d-xo.html
In short you have to find a way to keep that place always bent.
      Doesn't disconnect anymore, it worked.
It eventually led to the breakage of the cable due of the constant bending (I mean that's why I'm here now) but that's another story.
Let's just call it a temporary fix. See if it helps.
PS: I just didn't attempt to fix my old controller and just went straight buying a new Xbox One controller instead, it can work both wired and wireless, so the wire is removable and can be replaced easily, any micro-USB cable such as the phone charger one would work. But it isn't cheap.
