- Today I rescued a long sitting ultra rare example of a once common sight on the road with my buddy @TheBeardedExplorer - but will this charming little 90s wagon run again?

That needs to go to Al at 6d Diesels for a full restoration!!!
Sadly hes booked up for the next 2 months, I did ask!
This is such a cool find! Nice one.
It has to be called Eeyore with that reg and it looked so sad sat in that bush....
and the colour....
I can confirm this has happened
Thanks guys loved this one
Rare beast, would be good to see it saved. Best of luck with it :)
Super rare, good luck, look forward too seeing progress
It was started eighteen months, I mean years ago. 🤣
get it washed remove wiper arm before you destroy windscreen , cuz finding a replacement wont be cheap, clean inside , so much easier to work on clean cars , i would remove interior aswell take it outside and pressure wash seats and carpet
I remember my mate had a 1.2 that had porche on the camshaft cover. I bet they are rare now.
Porsche developed the powertrain for SEAT (this was pre VW ownership). SEAT had to pay Porsche 7 Euro per car to use the Porsche label.
I was convinced it was a Nissan Micra at first.
This is pre VW. Designed by Porsche for Seat. The SXi Sport version was very popular in its time. So the parts are probably not interchangeable. I had a colleague who owned one. Back in the early 90's He took it to Halfords for a service and they tried to charge him for three wiper blades. He had to get the service manager to go out and physically count them in front of him.
They were designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Porsche were supposed to have had a hand with engine development. But from memory ( my brother had one ), the engines were nothing to write home about, with the 1.2 petrol in particular being very harsh, unrefined and underpowered. I don't think the 1.5 was much better. Porsche were on the verge of bankruptcy at the time...
For the engine, maybe Fiat diesel engine of the era parts for servicing (cam belt, filters etc) might be interchangeable as it is a Fiat unit.
The gear lever location and movement, the transverse leaf spring rear suspension and some of the dashboard switches suggest it is a descendant of the 1970s Fiat 127. The engine being a diesel is completely different but I remember the cam cover being very close to the rather squared off inner wings. My first car. I wonder if there was a Haynes manual with a wiring diagram with the captions in the original Italian?
Hi James and Colin.
Hope you two are doing good.
Cool video, I loved it. Thank God it started. I had no clue it was actually a diesel. It actually sounds good.
Can't wait to see it on the road. Is it just a diesel or Is it turbo diesel?
Stay safe and take care.
Cheers Frank. It’s just a diesel. A 1714cc from… not much actually. Fiat ritmo has it and that’s about it I think!
@@Road2Rust That's cool. I like that car.
Blimey
Walk away..... I'd let that spider keep it
Man I love road to rust!
Goes to all the trouble to get it in the parking lot and then thinks"ant clean it here"😏 gas boys
The Spider is not disgusting, its one of the most amazing creatures on planet earth
I agree, but it’s not going to catch any flies in there anyway. Dumb place to live
i had a mk1 ibiza 1.2xls with a rubber spoiler on the boot lovely little car this brings back good memories. First week i owned it had to drive to scotland from kent in it for a family emergency never missed a beat. Then went on to own ibizas upto the mk 5 good cars 🙂
My dad had a Gold Mk1 1.5 GLXI which was the top of the range model. It was bloody unreliable but I fell for the looks of them. Most people had Seat's in the village I grew up in as we had a Seat dealership. They also for some reason sold Mahindra Jeeps but they didn't sell very well... 😂
My mate had a red one they started to rot on day 1, this had porsche systems factory stickers along the bottom of the doors.
Dont remember them being anything special, rotted at the same speed as an alfasud but the alfa was the real fast car
I had a 1.7D Malaga, which is the 4-door version. Porsche designed engine (well, some bits of it), a bit agricultural but took me all over Europe. Pretty indestructible. The offset pedals take a bit of getting used to (mine was a LHD, might be different on a RHD).
Ive actually got a 14 plate Leon Cupra 280 ive had several Audis & 4 Golfs no Skodas but now thinking for the money Seats are better value & at sometime will buy another Seat or Cupra. Even the little Mii are great.
18 minutes 18 seconds into the video look under the bumper you can see sparks
That’s correct, starter motor is a little…. Angry 😂
Great purchase, can't help thinking there's going to be " hidden " surprises, would have been great for " festival of the unexceptional " maybe 2025 .
I believe the chassis was designed by Porche, i don't think the suspension was.
Didn't know there was a mk1... thats a awsome little car
Nice find James.
I like the number plate - EOR = ‘Eeyore’ from Winnie The Pooh.
That’s what I’ve been calling it. Same colour too!
Rare motor
Oh my god you really know how to pick 😂🤣 cars hope you know some body who can weld as it will want alot you wat and see that hedge is hiding alot and diesel sorry I would of left it there myself hope you paid scrap price for it's been left outside to long you must have deep pockets
You did pay scrap price another person with loads of projects to do
Come on lad, at least lift the air intake off and check for mouse/rat shit or nests, you could see it sucking in spiders webs so god knows what else was in there.
It runs really sweet though, maybe a starter or (more likely) a starter ring on the flywheel.
Good little buy for the price👍🏻👍🏻
Old diesels run on spider webs! First clean video coming next week mate!
TH-camr tweed jacket reviewers tested a Seat Ibiza on G reg!
Thanks!
These look a little like the k10 micras
31 years old said James so 1990 says Colin? James answers no its 1991
so was this video made in 2022? or is maths not both of your strong points
btw great Video guys love anything like this
ps I bought a brand new one of these back in 1990 Black in Colour also diesel and was assured by the dealer that the engine is Volkswagen BUT NO it isnt
good luck with the resto.
atb Mike Skegvegas
I thought someone might notice! You’re right, we both suck at maths. So to clarify it is 1991! Glad you like it mate! Cleaning video coming soon!
Didn't Seat make something about Porsche design or parts or whatever im sure it will the mk1 ibiza , cam belt must be done .
“Not too bad” may come back to haunt you.
That’s cool as 👌
Reg check says it’s at 110k mileage
Never seen one before
Try fiat parts it's basically a fiat
Ide look at the air box an filter before I drove it, incase of a nest inside
Wil that be able to be fixed ?
Fixing it now!
Seen one a lot worse on market place not long ago and wanted way more than £200
1.8t 20v conversion
Maruti 800
sounds like xud lump
I thought that, but alas no. Shame, I might have understood it a bit more if it was
It's a pile of poo, a tin can that should not be saved. Throw it in the bin... waste of time
sure
it’s a damn sight better than 90% of the modern shite you see on the road
It sat on nice damp earth for nearly 15 years the floorpan will be crusty knowing these cars, the juice isn't worth the squeeze in my opinion.
Uninteresting crap.
Scrap!
