This is ABSOLUTELY beautiful!! Oh Jibid...every journal you make is so personalized...and does not look at all like the other. I would love to own this beauty, and take it with me on all of my travels!!! The lady who received this as a gift, is very very fortunate indeed. Brilliant work...I continue to be inspired and in awe of all you do!
The first page immediately reminded me of those old suitcases, so no, you are not the only one who remembers them. LOL! I've actually had one or two! It seems I'm vintage! :) Beautiful journal, as always!
I'm in awe! The more I watich your work the more I wish I could intern with you to learn your craft (first-hand)!! I hope you get back to making and selling your art! I'll be patient 🥰😍💕
Jibid, your videos are such a tonic. Not much makes me laugh out loud but I honestly feel as if I'm sitting chatting with you while you film your video. I knew exactly what was going to happen when you tried to zoom out...haha! I have exactly the same problems with technical things. Your comment about breaking your new camera and waiting till your son came was so familiar. My son just rolls his eyes at me whenever he comes round. He says he recognises the way I say his name when I need help...haha! When I watch one of your travel journals I always feel as if a dear friend has just burst into the room excitedly waving two tickets and saying, Quick, grab your bags, we're off on an adventure. Your journals have that magical ability to invite you into their story and make you part of it. When my children were very young, we bought them these story books where they printed their names in the story and they became the heroes and heroines and all their friends and animals were there and they all went on an adventure. Now I know how exciting it must have been for them :-) I love all the beautiful poetic and prosaic quotations. Many are comfortably familiar and others a wonderful new experience. Xx
Angela Sweby lols angela, isn't technology horrible, I am still battling with camera and microphone issues, I think even my son has given up on me, put something electrical in my hand and its like giving it the kiss of death. Thankyou however for your lovely comments about my art :) xx
Beautiful work of art! I also read the info graciously provided by your commenters. Great to know about the customs issues. Thanks for sharing so much with us.
I love the fact that you tell people to fill the journal and use it. Would love to see flips from the people you have made the journals for and how they use it.
Hi Jibid, about the 'specimen's' queries of 'can they be or not' have you heard of 'liquid glass'? It's like doing decoupage where you place down images (glued) then 'liquid glass' over with a layer or two to protect. It stays clear. I thought perhaps the specimen's are preserved but not 'exposed'. Don't know if this is acceptable or not, just a thought! This gift is so special, what a treasure!
1888starz I haven't heard of that, I guess its a bit like resin which I use sometimes, but you can put it on paper? I am going to look into it, thankyou very much hun for the info, I appreciate it x
I would love to see a tutorial on how you dry and press your flowers and leaves. I have tried many times and either they lose all color or they end up mildewing. I press them between paper which is how i thought you remove the water. Yours are so stunning. If you don't wish to the how to can you guide me in a direction in which to learn? Your work is really beautiful
debra eaves hi Debra, I just do it the old fashioned way, same as you it sounds like. A couple little tips: Use flatish flowers, violets, daisies etc, not fat fleshy flowers which are going to hold a lot of moisture. If you have doubts, try changing the paper after a couple of days, that will take some of the excess water away and will also tell you if you have suitable specimens. Use absorbent paper, like newspaper, or sugar paper, not shiny like printer paper. Keep them somewhere darkish. And of course somewhere very dry. And I haven't tried it this way but somebody told me a gentle mix of food colouring and rubbing alcohol will help to restore the faded colours. I hope this helps a little, persevere though, the results will be worth it. Love, jibid x
I went to Hawaii about a year ago and saw some of the most unusually green foliage there and the most amazing flowers. My daughter lives there so I hope to go back to see her next year. I would love to learn how to dry the flowers before then so that I could do a journal with dried plants from there. I have these books that have absorbent pages (like readers digest books) that I thought I could take with me and perhaps put the plants in to bring home. That way they would be safe for transport and I could do a journal taking pictures gathering the foliage. Do you think the book would work? We did a lot of hikes in the mountains. Your video sparked a lot of enthusiasm for nature with me.
debra eaves hi Debra, I'm sorry I have no idea what kind of paper that is. If I was collecting a lot of samples I would be inclined not to use a book because the more you put in, the less it wants to shut properly. Have you considered purchasing a small flower press designed for this purpose? It would also be lighter to carry, x
At least in the United States, it depends on the state. Seems it'd be easier for people ordering to find that information. Easier than you having to do all the footwork for other people's lands.
Omg I love this journal!!! I think it might be my new favorite! Although I dont think that Mona Lisa card is from the 1600's... it looks like a photo of the Mona Lisa..?
My word you've been busy haven't you? I've just discovered a new favorite artist Edward J. Detmold. Are you familiar with him? I'm sure his paintings would be right up your alley. He also had a painter brother. I love "Fruits of the Earth" and his illustrations of Bees. As always you are an inspiration. What do you do when you are taking a break from creating? I'm always walking the dog or hiking through the woods. I think you are a kindred soul. :)
cheryl ann it is a little letter that explains junkjournaling and what this book is for, in case you have received it as a gift and are not familiar with JJ'ing. Or to show your friends and relatives who don't understand this style of book. :)
Hi Jibid, I had to stop your video to reply to you about Customs, I know here in Australia your beautiful journals will more than likely get burnt and your customer that bought the journal will receive a letter inside the empty box that your beautiful journal was packed in with red and yellow tape saying customs opened the box. The letter will say everything inside the box was contaminated and was sent to be burnt due to plant matter that Australia does not allow into the country due to bugs and micro organisms that can be harmful to Australians plant life, you can not bring in any kind of plant seeds, root matter and or plant samples into the country blah blah blah. I know this because I spent a lot of money on vintage ephemera and I didn't realise that in the stack there was a vintage seed packet that had the seeds inside (according to customs) anyway the box arrived with custom all over it and a letter inside the empty box, they burnt everything because that seed packet contaminated it all. I tried everything to get the rest of my items and they said no it's already burnt, So I basically kissed away $140 dollars, (I mean a lot of ephemera) it was so upsetting not just to lose the money, but all the vintage ephemera getting burnt! I think sometimes they can be so harsh. I hope that helps you with your Australian customers Jibid, now I'm going to pop back to watch your videos. - Kirstie
Adeline Country Cottage oh my goodness kirstie, what an awful experience! That is horrendous, sometimes it makes you think they are just being mean for the sake of it, surely that wasn't necessary, they could just spray it, store it, or send it back surely. So sorry to hear that, I will definitely not be sending anything that direction. Thankyou for the info xx
I know it was a horrible experience, but please don't be put off sending to Australia maybe you could come up with another alternative maybe show what the journal what it looks like but take the specimen out, Leave that part open and tell your customers of Australia that they would have to put their own in, hopefully you would work that part out.
I've checked on sending dried plant material to Australia myself because I've been making a botanical gift for an Australian friend, and the answer is "no." See this website: college.adelaide.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Quarantine_whatcanti_mail.pdf. I'm starting all over again, making a new gift!!! Also, New Zealand is even stricter.
glittermama aww that is such a pity. They didn't reply to my email but from what everyone has told my over the last couple of months, you are right. So we will have to use our imagination a d work a bit harder for our Australian friends glittermama, thankyou for taking the trouble to comment x
My pleasure. Oh, and PS. The journal. Of course I love everything about it! Something I'm noticing about your work is that you don't beat the central idea to death in a journal of that length. So your work maintains a certain integral cohesion, which makes it so distinctive. Love it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE ! The circle page & tag & the folded pages & signature centres are fab.
I'm not sure which I would like more - a trip to Italy or this beautiful journal! We can always dream.
D Nichols aww, thankyou sweetie!

hi melissa, thankyou hunny, yes if it was 300 years old I would be charging a bit more for my journals ;)
Glad you enjoyed the video xx
Love! how much did you charge for this one?
I always love your journals. Is the name of the book of Shakespeare called The Children's Shakespeare?
CJ Christopher thankyou very much :) I believe so yes, though I have never seen the book in person, just a scan from the internet x

Great idea!
