The Filipino Tribe That Lives Inside a Volcano - The Last Cavemen: • The Filipino Tribe Tha...
The documentary series Extreme Tribe provides a rare look into the lives of the remote Mbendjele tribe. Told from a unique female perspective, filmmaker Livia Simoka spends five months with this community of hunter-gatherers living harmoniously within the jungle of the Republic of the Congo.
Almost entirely cut off from the outside world and inaccessible by road, Livia is welcomed by a close-knit family who treat her as their own. She is fully immersed in their daily lives from sharing in unexpected tragedies to observing the significance of tribal traditions like female tooth sharpening.
Traditionally they are regarded as egalitarian, with women on a broadly equal footing with men, but as Livia gains insight into their common practices including polygamy, she reveals a darker truth where domestic violence and male domination is still prevalent. Over the months she learns of the Mbendjele’s unique ways of surviving in the isolated rainforest and also discovers threats to their way of life, both from hostile neighbours and a new road that is planned to be built through their land.

I need the 🎬 movie,if she produces it with Mel gibsons help it would be a classic😢
Please do another documentary if Livia goes back, once the road is put in. It would be so interesting to see how the village adapts!
@@Kknah91 If Livia goes back and does another documentary, we will bring it here for sure
is there any way to send assistance to the village to Mama's family?
This people can earned money for plant Vegetables to sale in Martket if they do job to plant they will not doing this all the time to fight with one another God bless this beautiful people
I LOVED that she lived with them for a while and not just visited and made a documentary off of it. She learned their way of life and bonded with them. Really good documentary!!
yea shes dope asf for that not like these other personalities who go for one day faking it for the camera
She probably got piped
Oh God, I watched this long documentary from the beginning to the end in one sitting. It’s captivating. I came to love Mama and Papa, and their caring nature overlaps with my own parents. Their generosity must be something to do with their hunting and gathering egalitarian lifestyle. Truly beautiful people.
I did too. I could've watched another 2 hours Fascinating, beautiful people
Which Animal was Bar-b-Qued?🤔
Same same
Probably one of the most in-depth and content-rich documentaries I’ve ever viewed… Livia and the production crew did an incredible job on this one!
It was absolutely amazing this got a 10 out of 10 for me ❤
This journalist, Livia and her camera man (or crew) deserves an award for this documentary. I was edified beyond belief. The farewell was emotional.
She even got jiggers!!!!!!
everything is prearranged. this is as scripted as it gets. edified lmao. how young are you
@@johndonovan7018scripted? She still lived it! Would u be able to? Me? Absolutely NOT! This is the life we lived when We 1st came a billion years ago but God help me I definitely am all set w. Pine nuts for bkfst!!
I did not comment until I watched the entire documentary. Livia, please understand how much I appreciate your documentary. I am watching a lot of those on You tube and always thought there are not enough around from a woman's point of view. You delivered and you exceeded in showing us such a beautiful and insightful view of a tribe. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cried in the end as the tribe saw you as a daughter and I hope you continue showing us such powerful testimonies of people who value everything we have forgotten. Much love from the UK.
As I sit here 😢 crying and typing, this has got to be the most informative, educational and loving documentary I’ve ever watched. I Pray Mama, Papa, and the entire family much happiness and success. Kudos to you Livia and your film crew. Sorry for any misspellings ❤️ 🙏
Crying and typing are banned.
@@Phjghhdamn just when I thought it was safe banned again
Definitely crying also
Agreed ❤
Yeah, super emotional. 😢
I love how they yell out their frustrations in the morning and then get on with enjoying their day.
I think we should integrate this into our everyday lives too 😤🤪❤️🩹
I do this I honestly do and I feel so guilty but then after I'm fine
Its got to be healthy for mind and body to get it all off your chest and move on. We are all hunan and feel frustration...
This Doc had me crying when their family died. I just lost my grandma. I feel very connected to my people of africa. This was a beautiful doc. Thank you.
So sorry for your loss.... but I'm sure she's watching over you as we speak❤❤🙏
I'm so sorry for your loss 🙏🏽
Sorry for your loss and Africa loves you. Ever get a chance come visit
@@chichidiamond7874u live in África? Pretty cool!
Not a drop of racism in sight. Everyone is loving and welcoming to Livia. This goes to show you Racism is a “learned” behavior. They loved on her and treated her like one of their own. Her color didn’t matter she is a human being and a woman that needed to be respected and protected. Bless you Livia
We Africans are not racist, even though we have every reason to be. The White man is the one who treats us worse than the Bantu treat the Pygmies.
But did you not watch the part about the neighboring Bantu tribe bullying them, saying they look down on them, calling them animals and even owning them as slaves?🤷🏻♀️
@@dietlindvonhohenwald448 thats not racism thats classism
What do you call the Bantus then??!!
@Noj-y7fit’s even worse
This was such a treat. They need a reality show. I feel so close to mama and her daughter. Encore ❤
No reality show please. They’ll only be exploited.
The reality show will only exploit them.
The way I am crying and so full of joy watching this documentary .... I hope you are able to visit and help them some with this story . I love how they loved you.
I love these longer documentaries. It's not just spend a week with someone. it's longer time, learning their culture and intimate familial ways. Definitely keeping this in my playlist for later watching.
I just Love Mama,Papa and her family..I hope this young lady goes back to see them..u can tell they genuinely love her
Such a great documentary film ever done to portray the very simple life of the natives, without even worrying of their food, how they gonna eat, or where they gonna find it. They always trusted that they will always be provided of what the need at the present. Nice knowing they rituals, cultures and tradition. No matter what, people strive to live according to their daily needs. They also know how to be happy in their own simple way.
I'm from Kenya and this video shows a whole different world. Most time I was sad..but at the same time envious of their simplistic way of life. Thank you for such a comprehensive video.
Thank you for this magnificent documentary. That proves that we, humans, have the exact same issues, needs, and feelings no matter where we live in this planet. ❤
This culture and the people are absolutely beautiful. What a gift they gave by inviting Livia there and allowing us to have a look into the intimate parts of human experience.
Humble people living their humble, peaceful, and happy lives...am fearful the road will come with logging and disrupt this happy settlement...greetings from Kenya!
Its not peaceful...theres fight even in the middle of the n8ght😂😂😂
Peaceful!?!? There’s absolutely nothing peaceful about these tribes! What a stinking nightmare they have going on. No humility either, they are constantly hurting one another! Yelling, fighting and yelling some more! Geez, if they didn’t have the modern world to maybe give them the slight possibility of modernizing, they would remain in the Stone Age for another 10,000 years. Great documentary though!
Not all peaceful, beatings, domestic violence, fights all the way into the night, jealousy, deadbeat dads getting women pregnant and not taking responsibility, desperate pregnant women planning abortions with tree-bark tea, because of irresponsible men, bullying, neighboring tribes enslaving whole families and “owning them”
Not so peaceful…
@@hildabay-od8267
and you can’t call the cops 😖😖
@@hildabay-od8267 the documentary lasts for 2 hrs. She stayed there for months. Now you are judging people who have a system of resolving disputes. Where is peaceful then?
This has been the most fascinating documentary I've watched. Please keep us update with your host family and everyone else there. Amazing.
Agreed. So beautiful. I cried as they said goodbye and immediately looked for an update video to see how things changed for her family after the road. Then I saw this was JUST posted two weeks ago! Wow.
This has to be the best human documentary I have ever watched. At the core of our humanity is peace and happiness, which this community knows how to restore as soon as it is destabilised. Livia is absolutely fantastic in the way she becomes part of this wonderful people.
I could understand some of the words that they speak since i am Bantu from Kenya. This documentary opens up a new perspective to a different part the world.Very informative and eye opening. Thank you.
Are some of the words french?
Hi Livia
This documentary has made me look how important it is to reflect on how other people are living and also realize how important it is to appreciate wherever you find yourself. Being African myself and close to such kind of tribes, i can relate to the life you must have been through while in that village, from sleeping on the ground to going into the forest to hunt and a lot of other activities you might have been involved in, it is incredible. This documentary made me look at the story of Ota Benda in 1905, i want to believe that he might be from this village or a nearby village. I felt sad for the lady that died, it could have been avoided, it could be something that can be treated easily in the hospital but due to lack of proper medical care unfortunately she succumbed to it. I wish they get the road constructed soon even though it will definitely affect their ways of life, but it can also save them from losing people to illnesses that are treatable. And oh! The teeth sharpening was really scary yet incredible. That dentist might need some more tools hahaha. Thank you Livia.
I saw this in three parts not too long ago. Thank you for posting the documentary in full. This was the best one I’ve watched on the Pygmy tribe. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
thank you
An amazing documentary. The best one I’ve ever seen. The people and culture are absolutely beautiful! This is very well put together and educational. I enjoyed it.
So happy you enjoyed and thank you for letting us know!
I hope youtube pushes this docu out more and more people get to see this. Beautiful
Best documentary I've seen in a long time 😁👍🌸
This truly captivated me from beginning to end! I would love to see a follow up in the future 💕
I can't begin to put into words what I felt watching this. I felt moments of unconditional love, acceptance, gratitude just every emotion a person could feel. My heart absolutely broke for Mama losing her beloved daughter & grandchild. No mother or father should have to know what it feels like to bury one of their own children or their grandchild. I have a Love for the Family & people of Congo. Livia Thank you for opening my eyes to such a Beautiful, Amazing group of people. They have a special place in my heart as well as you Livia. Your documentary had me in tears so many times. Not only sad tears but tears of happiness as well. You have a beautiful talent Livia. Keep sharing your beautiful gift with the world Livia & to the Beautiful people of Congo, I pray you all are still living such a wonderful life filled with happiness, love & acceptance ❤❤😢😢
Watched the entire docu in one sitting, it was captivating. Thank you Livia and your team. Love mama and Papa and the pygmy community of Bonguida. Much love from Kenya 🇰🇪
PS: I come from a Kenyan Bantu tribe that has its roots in the Congo 😮
Which one?
Thank you for these beautiful documentaries.
🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪👏👏👏👏
Livia stayed with them just for 2months and everyone started crying when she was about to leave...
They don't hide their emotions... Just think of present. No worry about future... Fight but forgive in a moment..
Shows that older traditional things are inclusive and make sure everyone around is doing good psychologically...
Loved it.. ❤️❤️
My first time watching a 2 hr TH-cam documentary and might I say this is the best one yet. I really appreciate her actually going to live with them and learn their ways. They will never forget her her & she won’t forget them either ❤
This is the Best Documentary of all time, I bet this lady Livia is a Star,
Livia, I am honestly super proud of you and the entire crew. You guys adapted and accepted their lifestyle with so much respect without judgement.
It’s so amazing how the community love and care for each other genuinely. I wish only the best for them!❤️🙏🏾
Livia,
You were outstanding! I have never watched a documentary for more than 2 hours. It was so rich with drama, entertainment, sadness, and Love.
Thank you. Hope i see more of your work.
My favorite documentary 💕 i can't wait to see an update in the future l.
One of the best ethnographic documentaries I have seen. What an adventurous heart Livia ❤

Hands down one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen! I felt all the emotions, it really felt like I was there. Thank you for this treasure 🩷 a moment in time beautifully captured
By far the best documentary I’ve ever watched!
My mom had an dna ancestral test done for Mother’s Day, and we found out that my mother is not of Mexican heritage as she was led to believe her entire life, but she is of 50% African American
30% pygmy tribe of the Congo
20% Of Nigerian descent
Our whole lives we were stripped from our real heritage! My mom was devastated that she was misled and had missed out on her heritage almost her whole life!
I’m proud of whatever heritage our family may be. ❤
I'm 15% Cameroon, Congo & Western Bantu. 10% Ivory Coast & Ghana. Nigeria 9%, Senegal 5%, Mali 3%, Benin & Togo 25%.🇬🇾
That bond you created with Mama and everyone there i felt it... When you were saying goodbye I teared....
As a fan of free Documentary.. i want to Thank you for the extraordinary opportunity to view your Documentary ❤ i literally watched it 3 times to make sure i miss nothing !!! I can't imagine what you experience while filming this beautiful family ! I have to say the most sad part was the baby monkey 🐒. It broke my heart to witness this 💔. THANK YOU FOR SHARING ❤❤❤
I plan to start watching documentaries moving forward! Thank you
The world community should honour Livia as a great Lady and journalist. She is great.
I don’t really watch too many movies. These documentaries are entertaining and informative and keep you interested. Much thanks

Even in the middle of nowhere, there's still drama.
It's the center of their universe. Get it.
So long as there's people, there will be drama
Drama is everywhere

😭ts was so interesting like the drama is crazy
This was such a heartwarming documentary - loved every minute of it. What a beautiful tribe!

This was an amazing documentary 👏 🙌. When I saw how long it was.. I didn't believe I was going to finish watching it. But once I kept on watching, I absolutely had to finish watching it... I love it. Love from Los Angeles CA.
What a beautiful soul and people who live in God's Timeline. There's nothing in the world than bonding with each other in divine life and looking forward to the future with hope. This is what I learned about life and my takeaway from this documentary video. Thank you all for hosting this beautiful English lady. Love you all.

amazing part of life ! This is the most authentic and incredible , beautiful documentary seen in my life ! This MUST be promoted on National Geographic documentaries 🎉
I congratulate the entire team for this unique documentary. I also congratulate Mama & Papa for permitting to document the entire lifestyle of the village. My work is somewhat similar, collecting folk songs, dances & rituals here in southern India.
I'll meet Livia in my life time...I'm looking forward to telling African stories too. It's another world deep into the depths of Africa.
Livia deserves and award!❤❤❤❤❤

that was a beautiful doco, thouroughly loved watching every moment of if, was sad to see you leave, what a beautiful tribe and way of life
Glad you enjoyed it :)
WOW! WOW! WOW! Lost for words. I felt like I was there with Livia. I cried so much when we had to leave. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place and its people with us. I'm in Cpe Town, South Africa.
Very inspiring and touching Livia . A generation down the line will desire to follow your bravery and courage. Your Masambo was very hilarious 😂.
It's difficult for me to watch the Teeth Sharpening!
I suppose it's my African blood that keeps me up late at night!🇬🇾🥰
Absolutely beautiful. Touching, heart wrenching, inspiring, just beautiful. Thank you for making this documentary.
Such a beautiful documentary! As someone originally from the DRC and having migrated 25 years ago, I found it to be incredibly informative. Even though I already know a lot about my home country, I still learned a few new things while watching.
However, I did feel a bit uncomfortable when the lady confronted the villagers about the noise at night-her approach seemed a little harsh. But aside from that, it's truly a wonderful piece, and I admire your bravery and determination in capturing such important stories.
Amazing just amazing!!!thank you so much.
Hi Olivia watching from Kenya... To be honest, today has been my first time to watch a 2hour documentary without feeling dizzy...was really captivating.❤❤
This is by far the best documentary i have watched.i have clearly understood their way of life, personality and was entertained the whole time.Good job
No matter what foreign language you use to speak we all use the same words.. Amazing!
This is just beautiful. I got so emotional when she is about to leave the village. Mama is such a strong woman. Their life is pure, not so simple yet sometimes confusing. You learn not to judge their lifestyle and values but to comprehend. All the good and the bad is within human beings but it is our choice to bring out the good or the bad.
THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! Your work is awesome! I was so caught up in the entire family/village and everyone was able to get a good cry out of me!!! Thank you so much for sharing this and I truly hope the new road does NOT ruin the last of the Hunter Gatherer groups.
This is the most amazing documentary. I watched it in its entirety. It kept getting better and better.
Awesome Documentary!!!! Well done!!
I really enjoyed watching this documentary. To Ms. Livia Simoka, thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. Peace and Happiness to the Mbendjele Family

The drama was top tier 🍿🍷
Amazing... I cried when you left. They embraced you as their own .
Thank you for posting this documentary. ❤
Wow that was a great documentary! Well done Livia and film crew!!❤❤
It's amazing to see you live with the Mbendjele natives. At least you've experienced what life means without basic necessities. Great documentary.
Admittedly, I saw how long this was and I was like I’m not watching this. I am so glad I did! Wonderful documentary and many thanks for showing/introducing this to us!
Your masambo was so brave! I teared up! Thank you for thus beautiful film
This kind of experience is live changing.
Those who have gone through this kind of experience will look at live from totally different anglers and surely appreciate and feel great full. Full respect to her. Only a handful of people can do it.
I loved this documentary so much ❤. I watched the whole thing like a movie and cried like it was my family at the end lol. I loved the ppl and their community, drama and all. The way they handled each situation and kept order was amazing. I also loved the morning venting that they did (forgot the name of it). I might start doing that lol, just get everything off my chest every day. 😂
This was an amazing documentary. I am so hígado that u watched it from beginning and the end (still have about 20 mins left). Wish that I could get updates on everyone!
any other documentaries from Livia...i really loved this one😅
Thank you ever so much for spending such a long time residing there while preparing this documentary,,,, For those who don't realize how difficult it is for a city girl to adapt to such a sociological change and live in such a new environment,,, that must have been an awarding task,,,,,, this episode in comparison made me realize all societal trends stem from man's natural nature while all tenets of Human Relationship finally enjoin in raw form ,,,,, I was sad and kinda tearful towards the end
Much love from Romania! wonderful person among wonderful people!
