    Hi Jack, excellent video, great job. I love how you are floating in the corner, super cool. I agree Elementor is on the way out. Gutenberg will rapidly improve and you Elementor cannot compete with page speed. Looking forward to your Gutenberg add on videos.

      Thanks Matt. Page speed with Gutenberg is so much easier to achieve and SEO. It’s going to be interesting to see how quickly people switch to it.

    Hi everybody, Elementor is now a big company with a BIG budget. Do you think that they will give up so easily? I don't think so ...
    I'm curious to see if they can handle with the speed issue. I think we are in for an interesting answer/battle although I agree that raising prices was an extremely bad idea.
    Great video Jack, thanks.

    The most interesting thing I found in this was you using blocks to make a page. So many videos share features rather than how you might choose to use it in practice.
    Do feel many features help build a page but not write it. (Though that you can cut and paste designed parts will help some non tech people)

  • @OnyxStudiosInteractive

    Great video! I think there's definitely a place for Gutenberg...for example if you maintain a blog that just has a theme like Astra or Kadence and then used Elementor for your landing pages, homepage, etc. However even at the speed that Gutenberg is developing, I don't think it will be able to compete with Elementor simply because it's not a design tool. Sure you might be able to move blocks around however it would have to completely redesigned. If this were the wild, Elementor would be the Lion and Gutenberg would be the Cheetah!

  • @frits1463
    @frits1463 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I did some testing in building a website from scratch in Gutenberg and Kadence theme and blocks and it has a long way to go. The ellements to build are everywhere on the entyre screen and doesn't work very well. Elementor is so much easier.
    And I don't think Google is going to ban website with a loadspeed a bite above 2,5s. That would make Google obsolete in the longrun.
    Pagebuilders will come with an answer. Maybe that does'nt involve Wordpress anymore. So be it.

    I am rooting for Gutenberg. Fundamentally there is no real difference in workflow between Gutenberg and a page builder from what I just tested. But, Gutenberg seems to have much more potential due to be being embedded in wordpress out of the box.

    Hahaha guys in the comments are you crazy 🤪 elementor isn't dead at all. Still a long way for Gutenberg to reach that level of customization and features. I got dozens of elementor sites with excellent loading speed. But I might try Gutenberg to develop a full site as it's getting popular.

    There is one topic on Page builders I wish you would create an in-depth video on. DISADVANTAGES OF PAGE BUILDERS. I will get the ball rolling -
    1. Page builders are inefficient
    2. They are overly complex for managing website content
    3. They add bloat and impact performance
    4. Page builders lock you in with their own unique non-standardized code
    5. Page Builders encourage bad practices of in-line styling of individual elements

    Thanks for making the video.
    One of the first things I noticed was the settings menu on the right side..I had the same concerns as you, muscle memory is a thing.
    I have a new website to build and I am forcing myself to build it with the Gutenberg tools, it took me about 45 mins to get used to using it.
    If my elementor subscription renewal was only $20-30 a year AND if i could use it on more than one website I may have never looked into what Gutenberg was..but now I know.

    The videos you have up here are fantastic, Jack. I appreciate your hard work in developing these materials. Can I ask if you still believe the things you said about Gutenberg a year ago? The quality of page builders like Elementor and Divi has increased greatly recently. If I were to purchase a lifetime licence for Divi or Oxygen, would you advise me to learn Gutenberg or to switch to a different WordPress editor? We'd appreciate it if you could respond to this.
    Once again, I appreciate it in advance.

    Can I use Gutenberg but if I'm having issues add Elementor? I'm other words, can not be used at the same time? Do you recommend Blocksy or Kadence for a small e-commerce business? Someone else commented that Kadence seems to be copying Blocksy's themes and making slight adjustment so it doesn't appear to be a complete stealing of Blocksy's themes.

  • @GarySchiltz

    I'm rooting for Gutenberg, since it at least tries to be a standard way of building WordPress sites with reusable components, etc. But predicting that Elementor would be dead within a year may have seemed like a feasible outcome 20 months ago when you filmed this, but seems a little silly now in November 2022. How do you like your crow prepared? 🙂

  • @bradzimmer239

    Elementor shot themselves by raising the pricing after being acquired. Switched over to Gutenberg, and my site speeds are much faster. Page builders are great, but the convenience will slow your sites down. With google making changes in May 2021, this isn’t something you want.

    Kadence rules. I was a GutB hater until kadence came along and coincided with lasted core updates. Kadance + gutb is a No brainer now. If you’re on the fence about switching, you’re already on the losing side. Get that band aid off and get moving on your conversion.

  • @poloncanucic8345

    It is not better image on gutenberg, in elementor you have setting grey overlay over photo by default. You have to change setting.

  • @saraht6143
    @saraht6143 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for showing an example, however If you can explain why the numbers can change on google pagespeed insights, if I use your elementor website as an example , pagespeed gives me different numbers from when you made this video.
    I also wonder why elementor would be slower, because page-speed isn't everything , is it just the aforementioned extra plugins that comes with an elementor install vs gutenberg, or are there other things to think about. to clearly evaluate something I would like to understand the problem first as someone seriously considering either or looking to shop for other page-builders...
    I would also like to know how gutenberg stacks up to the paid-version of elementor, for people who can afford it but are looking at both.

    • @JackintheNet
      @JackintheNet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, there is no point trying to test the site I use for the videos as it is not constant, it is constantly changing with more or less content being added for tutorials so will never give the same speed read outs - in fact it is not properly optimised for this reason so real world results for a static site would be better.
      Gutenberg is not as fully rounded as Elementor yet but it is getting there, allows many features for free that Elementor charges for and as I say in the video it is the future of WordPress because it is at the core which is important for many reasons, including pleasing the SERPS and page speed scores.

    • @JackintheNet
      @JackintheNet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for watching and for the question. It depends on your content - naturally the more media and content you put on can slow a website, but that's why it's important to build it in the most speed friendly way possible. Starter templates form top WordPress companies give you a great place to start - the majority are already mobile optimised and built for good speed and SEO. Certainly not 99%. There are about 450 million Wordpress sites and about 5 million installations of the plugin (even the pro version requires the free version and cannot be excluded). So I would say that about 1% of the sites use Elementor ! yes only a little more than 1% !
