  • After being up on the jacks for a few months, I was finally able to get the turbo IS300 back on the ground and on the road for a quick test drive with the new setup! The new Wilwood brakes feel great and the 3.5" exhaust system sounds AMAZING!
    Everything went very well (aside from getting caught in the rain) and now I'm even more excited to get the car on the dyno again!
    Thanks for watching!

    If the steering wheel shimmy was braking straight then I would check your front lower control arm #2 bushing. If the shimmy is felt while turning then more likely a ball joint. Either way with all that power and now braking you will need to upgrade to get more of the power down.

    • @twojay
      @twojay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it mainly happens when braking straight at higher speeds. I picked up a bunch of polyurethane replacement bushings from Figs so I'm hoping that will take care of the issue. Based on a quick visual inspection, the stock caster arm bushings look pretty worn/soft and I'm sure the lower control arm bushings are in similar shape like you mentioned. Thanks for the input!

    Immaculate IS300. Love the car in every way. I just got some NRG budget seats for my 05' and was reading up on the harness installation for the seats and just noticed one of the big danger situations with the harness is having the belt at an angle through the seat lower than shoulder height. I mention this because it looks like that may be the way yours is. The info I was reading was saying in a collision having that belt pull down on your shoulder will compress your spine and blow your back to shit. You obviously know what you are doing with everything I just FYI in case of an oversight about it. Stay safe bud

    Great video as always, two jay. I really enjoy the quality of your work and your down to earth/humble presentation. A few points and questions:
    Haven't tried it myself, but my understanding is that removal of the low fuel light bulb will restore functionality of the fuel gage. The OEM ecu controls the fuel gage using a predictive strategy that includes the MAF - and when that is removed, the gage will hang up, and move in huge steps. A fellow on the forums that did an LS swap discovered that removing the low fuel light solved this. Might be worth a try for you?
    The VP gas jug: I have two of these and the screw down cap leaks on both. You're a perfectionist, so I wonder if yours leaked and what you did to solve it?
    Your Corbeau seats: I'm curious what model they are and if your happy with them? I've been shopping for new seats. Hard to choose because there's soo many different brands and models. A lot of the ones I've seen in person are not impressive in terms of quality.

    • @twojay
      @twojay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome back and thanks for the kind words! That's the first time I'm hearing about the low fuel light bulb. I have a hard time believing that it will actually fix the fuel gauge but it's probably worth trying next time I have the cluster apart. I guess I have stranger solutions to problems like that. That being said, the fuel gauge doesn't really bother me all that much, I usually just throw in another 5 gallons when the gauge is around the half way mark.
      As far as the VP jug goes, are you talking about the little black breather cap? I haven't really had any issues with the jug but I basically just use it to transfer fuel from the 5 gallon pail to the car and don't usually leave any fuel stored in the jug.
      The seats are the Corbeau A4 in black suede. I wish I could say that the build quality is great but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and was not all that impressed with them. Unfortunately I think that's pretty common with aftermarket seat manufacturers and it's hard to compare these with something like an OEM seat where the fit and finish is generally much better.

    • @GroovesAndLands
      @GroovesAndLands 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@twojay Regarding the VP jugs, it's the main cap I'm talking about, not the breather. It's a common complaint with them. Obviously yours doesn't leak - congrats! And on the seats - your response is about what I expected. I think I'm leaning towards some ISF or RCF seats, which will be heavier, but way nicer than aftermarket.

    • @twojay
      @twojay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GroovesAndLands Ah, yeah I haven't had any issues with the main cap leaking on the VP jug. ISF or RCF seats would be very nice (assuming they wouldn't be a nightmare to fit).

    • @twojay

      I really should do a warm compression test and leak-down test to see if I can some more information on the issue but for now I'm just going to keep driving it normally for now (even on the dyno). Just cruising around (out of boost) for a few minutes is plenty of "cool down" time in my opinion. The EFR series turbochargers utilize engine coolant to help cool the bearing housing as well. How much of an increase have you seen going from a 9180 to the 9280? I'm looking at my options. Currently, I'm running a 9174 in my rb30 swapped R33 GTR Vspec. I am running into the issue that the motor is spooling up the turbo to fast and not leaving me any room at high RPMs. My tuner is really pushing me towards a precision 7675, but I am a fan of the EFR series. I feel they are more durable and spool faster. Could you share your experience with the 9280?

    • @twojay
      @twojay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure of the exact power increase from the turbo change alone because I changed a couple other things at the same time and I also used a completely different dyno than I had used for the 9180. That being said, I would assume the larger compressor wheel alone is good for an extra 50-80 WHP on similar boost numbers. I don't have any experience with the 9174 but the larger turbine wheel should also pick up some good power obviously at the expense of response. Spool is very similar between the 9180 and 9280 with the 9280 being about 200-250 RPM slower in terms of response (not even noticeable in my opinion). I have always been impressed with the response of the EFR series, but Precision definitely makes some great stuff as well. I see 30 PSI by 5000 RPM with the 9280 and it holds boost to redline much better than the 9180 did (probably due to the much broader compressor map). This is actually the 4th EFR unit I have had on the car (7064, 8374, 9180, 9280) and I have loved all of them.
