- Scarefest is back at Alton Towers for Halloween 2023 and in this vlog we check out everything that the event has to offer! This includes our full reviews from the ALL of the scare mazes, including the NEW Daz Games: Panic. We also share highlights from all of the spooktacular entertainment at the event including live shows on the main stage and the Alton Ancestors. We also take you inside Burial Grounds, the NEW scare zone for 2023, along with capturing the night-time atmosphere across the park!

We saw you loads yesterday and did some of the scare mazes for the first time this year. Darkest Depths was awesome, but I swear I can still smell it now 😂 Also wanted to say thank you for being about the only content creator who was considerate enough to kneel down for the Alton Ancestors finale on the main stage. Other people standing up throughout at the front caused so many issues for families with children trying to see the show. We loved Scarefest this weekend and Wickerman in the dark was amazing!!

Majority of the older mazes were better I think the one I miss the most is Sub Species it was terrifying and yet we have never had another Scare raiting of 6 Pumpkins since. The quality has gone down for the newer mazes and as someone who hasn't been to scarefest for 2 Years it was nice to get back on The Attic and Darkest Depths.

Yeah towers really needs to do like a press event beforehand or maybe a V.I.P thing where you can film inside the mazes 😊
It really gives people a feel for the mazes when parks allow filming inside!
Yes I think you should be able to even if there a press event or vip or pass holder event as you said it would be good to show inside so ppl can make up there mind take a leaf out of Thorpe
Terror in the towers was my favourite scare maze with the strobe lightning at the end. I felt like the actors were “voldemorts” 🤣 I also loved carnival of screams in 2014 when it was opposite spinball and the opening scene was a mannequin type thing as a “ticket collector” that was actually a person that came to life - frightened the life out of me 😂😂
It was such a brilliant maze!
Bring them all back I say because the one's that are there now are absolutely terrible.

Would love them to bring back some classic scare mazes. Boiler house, carnival of screams, the sanctuary, sub species and others after this time. Maybe rotate which maze it is every 2 years
Did the Daz games panic, it was absolutely amazing and I loved it sm. Also, you guys met my two friends in the queue for wikkaman just before the park closed! :)

Invitation is absolutely appauling 😂 quite enjoyed Daz games and AltonVille was amazing!! Burial grounds at night was absolutely full on!! Hopefully next year we see some changes to the attic and Darkest!

I hope they realise how good free scare attractions (like a scare zone) are and how I would REALLY love it if next year they did more stuff around Curse At Alton Manor as I LOVE that ride and it has a great storyline with so much potential! Just went to Scarefest yesterday. I’m gonna be honest, the Daz one I had to do twice because I loved it so much. First time I did it I was at the back in the pre show and one of the mannequin looking guys came out the curtain and pulled me away. I was being followed, pulled, one of the clown guys even pinned me against the gate which freaked me out. Skin snatchers was ok, I was in the front for all 3 and it was just my group because it was so quiet at the time we did them, but at the end it felt like there was nothing happening, no actors or nothing, start was really good though, darkest depths was so far my favorite from yesterday, never screamed and jumped back into my friend so much before, the attic also. Glad they changed up the invitation and I’m excited for the line up they’ll have next year! 🩵 loved the blog Shaun

I would like to see them start with quality Mazes and expanding that by 1 every year to eventually having at least one Scarefest attraction in every area. I mean I feel The Attic feels weird being the only Maze in the Towers they could use the old Sacturary Area and Sub Species Area for two new Scare Mazes.

Yeah I agree it is really frustrating Alton has the towers and the grounds but new maze's are needed . 13 could half a wraith themed maze wickerman could have a Beornen themed maze ect we know they already have costumes and props ect because both I believe previously had mazes
@@liamcollinson5695 I think Alton Towers should bring back Mazes that only lasted 1-2 seasons like the original Terror of the Towers lasted 1 season, then Haunting of Molly Crowe only lasted one season. And also I would like to have seen Room 13 as no one talks about that maze from the past

im interested for daz games. i have heard reviews like yours saying its not that good, but interestingly i have heard even more positive reviews for some reason! people saying its one of the best 'mazes/scare attraction' they have done 🤔
It all depends on personal preference really. I prefer a heavily themed, story based attraction!

Thorpe park and legoland doing amazing on there halloween events and then we have alton towers not changing, I really hope they do something do improve ALOT next year

Altonvile Mine Tour was great but I like this version of it and the tagline on the bottom says Tinys Revenge and I think that is pretty Cool

It seems like Daz Games: Panic is the marmite maze this year. Seem some saying it's the best thing at Scarefest and others (like you) saying it's terrible - I don't think it's for me though!
I think 2024 will be a massive step up from the last bunch of years of scarefest they have shown this year there willing to change stuff but what to you think Shawn?

Really enjoyed your vlog around the Scarefest section. Yes, pity you aren't allowed to film inside more. The ancestors were very good, the pre Wickerman walk through and the lighting and signage all around was fab. The merch is quite expensive. I loved the mug you were looking at with the bunting on, did you get one. My son was there yesterday purely to go on the park rides as it was longer opening hours. He said it was very busy and the queue times were too long.

When we did mine tours there was only 4 of us and it was hands down the scariest maze I’d ever done! Actors in there and the vibe is fantastic
Alton towers Scarefest is Cool and I love the fact that there are many different mazes around the park
I wish instead of trick o' treat town, they brought back the trick or treat at all the shops

Those scare maze prices are outrageous! Crazily expensive day out if you want everything.

I got 5 I’m my family. Gonna be 200 quid plus at least 130 quid for admission, plus food price (probably at least 50 quid if I’m lucky with prices that is)

My wife and I are coming to the Scarefest for the first time so we have got some valuable information from you.
My wife has bad knees and is waiting for a knee replacement so she can walk, but not very far before the pain kicks in.
We bought a mobility scooter to get her around whilst she is waiting for the op but was I wondering which if any of these could she use the mobility scooter in?
or which are not very long to walk around or not a lot of standing around?
The other problem we have is the parking as she is not classed as disabled and so she doesn't have a disabled badge, so I have found out there is a drop off point, but then I have to go and park the car up and meet back up with her, then the opposite when we are leaving.
So is the drop off point near or far from the car park?
We are both in our 60's so not Olympic contestants LOL.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I met you guys on the last ride of the day on Wicker Man on Sunday, just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time for talking to us so late on in the day. I thought Daz Games: Panic was really fun, I feel like I'm in a minority when I say that, but the idea of being able to freely run around on your own with a purpose I thought was really unique. Yes, the theming was poor and the price is very expensive, however, I did it twice as I thought it was just so good. I would be sad to see it go for next year, maybe if the theming was improved it would feel worth the £10.

Is it worth a visit? Been thinking of going back with kids (10 and 8) not sure what to think of having to pay extra for each scare event. Was it busy?
It was busy, however it does get quieter later on. We would recommend making the most of the night rides and enjoying the entertainment and free scare zone!
I like what they have done for Halloween this year with the Curse at the Alton Manor and they have made it even more scary but it is Cool
It’s great to have new scenes inside the attraction!
I think I’ll give them a miss this year, bring on 2024 scarefest with hopefully some more free scare zones and new mazes

I’m honestly really disappointed with how Alton towers is now compared to how it used to be. They don’t seem to try nearly as much as they used to. They used to be really proud of what they released.

The Darkest Depths is Cool but it's not the best but I like how it is by the Dark Forest area of the park

We had a great time this weekend, loved the mazes. Mine tours was the best for us and loved the burial ground. I think they missed a trick not doing a scare zone based on the Phalanx near sub terra. Overall had a fab time. Great video guys

I went to Alton Towers Scarefest back im 2022 for my first time but i didn't do the mazes as im not a fan of these but i went for the night rides and i am going again this year but i may try and brave the mazes!

Did the Invitation for the first time on the weekend. OMG what a load of rubbish. 10 minutes of listening to someone sucking fingers. I was expecting at the end to see the vampires behind the cage similar to that at the end of Terror of the Towers - but alas no, nothing. Absolutely shocking. Really needs to go

Hi im going to Alton Towers this coming week on a weekday but its forecasted to be rain all day. Do you reckon theyll still keep the rides open even on a weekday out of holidays?
Usually rides will stay open in the rain, unless it turns heavy heavy or stormy!

Completely agree that they should allow filming inside the mazes at the preview night - if you don't drive, it's super expensive to visit Alton Towers and stay in the hotel and I'd like to know for sure that it's going to be worth it each year!
With somewhere like Thorpe Park, you have a million options for hotels within walking/bus distance so it's not such a gamble - and of course, they actually allow preview night filming!

Great video so far & I agree with you about The Invitation however what you described as a new experience inside for this year is stange. Maybe he was on a break for you last year but we remember him running in between the row’s rattling the cage 😂😱 As you said I can’t believe that they have brought this attraction back for a second year sheer madness 😱

I went to Scarefest last year. To be honest, it wasn't worth it. Apart from Towers Street you hardly knew it was Halloween. The exceptionally long queues, combined with the fact you have to pay full price for entry (any discount codes don't work for these events) and the over-priced scare mazes make it poor value for money since you can't get on all the rides, even though its open 11 hrs. It's not worth this poor experience just for some atmospheric lighting loosely placed around strategic areas of the park, and calling it 'Scarefest'. Would take a major change to get me to go back, which, based on this video, has not happened.

The dungeon is more of an experience then scary, so it depends what you like!

Great and honest views as always. I've been looking forward to scarefest this year as every year i guess. After the last few years have been slightly disappointing, understanding reasons and setbacks on their behalf, I love many factors of scarefests mainly the night rides and lighting and effects that are shown. Daz games and burial grounds and the fact the alton mines has been refreshed from your review (probably my favourite maze of the past few years) there has not been much free freighting areas or anything that has really been worth paying in my opinion. I remember the old scarefest days the walk through the castle with the mirrors and strobe lighting. Amazing with actors all around the park give it some really good jump scare halloween vibes. I can't remember what the maze was called by spinball with the bus and the zombies that was a free walkthrough that was one of the most decent ones in a long time. Overall i can't wait to go and ride some rides in the dark and have an attempt at being frightened like i did once upon a time!

I think it's really bad that a theme park like Alton Towers is repeating scare mazes for more than 3 years at most, especially for the prices people pay for general admission and the extra scare festival fees on top!
They should be updating repeat mazes yearly, and then completely changing the mazes once every 3 or 4 years to bring something new to the event.
I can't be the only wishing There was a scare maze themed around the phalanx what with the nemesis retrack
I wish they had done that along with Burial Grounds!
It astounds me that Alton Towers decided to work with a TH-camr..... that has nothig to do with theme parks! If they truly wanted to create an experience with a TH-camrs name attached I'm not sure why TPW wasnt their first choice! A ShawnxCharlotte event would surely be worth the ticket price!

Oh definitely! But I think judging by the lack of creativity recently from AT, I'm sure between the two of you, you could come up with a proper scare maze. Can't believe they didn't do something with the Curse of Alton Manor as a theme. If they don't create a Nemesis maze next year.... 😮

Which maze/s would you say is the most claustrophobic? I can deal with a certain amount - like The Attic/Terror of Towers usually, but never done Darkest Depths or the Altonville Mine..
