The Kidd was one of only 2 premium ships I ever bought. Why? because I went to university at LSU and was aboard the Kidd many many times. one of my favorite pastimes. It was a grand ship back when AA actually mattered. Nearly every match people would say , " Yes! we have a Kidd!" and I could play a dedicated AA role and enjoyed it greatly. sailing among the big boys and grinding planes to dust while cruisers and BBs applauded my heroic support work. now ...now people say, " oh great, all we have is a Kidd." nice to see a Kidd replay here. Well played. thanks Mr. Jingles. *Hat off*

When Shellback was up against that broadsiding Leander, it was a serious mistake to not switch to AP. American DDs' 5"/38 guns can absolutely citadel a Leander at that range. And same thing with the Ryujo.

Congradulations! i missed out on a gold shellback when i was in on the uss gettysburg (didnt get shellback either) even though we were 20 nm from it, I was a quartermaster and while i was looking at where we were I saw we were pretty close to that point, measured it told my qmc that and suggested we could pop over real quick and get it, he liked the idea so he brought it up to that nav and he thought it was a great idea too. he took it up with the captain, but the captain said no, would take too much time. biggest disappointment of my naval career.
also, is hms defender the funny looking destroyer? because if so I think it was the ship that we did joint training ops with. (it was in 2009 or 2010 if i remember right)

I built a model of the Fletcher when I was a kid, and I loved the design. A few decades later when I visited the Kidd in Baton Rouge, I immediately noticed the lack of a second torpedo launcher. It was weird that 40 years after building that model, my brain was telling me that something was missing. If you ever get the chance to visit her, you should. She is still beautiful.

14:00 - What is it with carrier players? - Recently I've seen a short clip from Flambass in a carrier. He was quite close the map's border and tried to instruct the auto-navigation system to sail the carrier in a certain direction. The navigation system did plan a path in that direction, but not without first making a loop into the other direction.
So since the enemy carrier player was quite close to the island, and since he had a destroyer closing in, I'm guessing it was a "shit his pants" moment for him. What might have happened is that he tried ot instruct the navigation system to sail away, without checking the path that was set.

My father in law is a shellback. He shared some of the details of the hazing ceremony with me, but definitely kept a few to himself. The one point of his that stuck with me though was, "the bigger the ship, the more elaborate the ceremony because there's more room to set things up on deck." I imagine carriers can create quite a production, if they wanted to.

yes , and i hate scroll wheel replays, it makes it look like you have no f clue or plan what to do , you can exactly notice with every zoom in and out from the target he is waaaay off the target even the slow one with aim

I think the player is using some kind mod that zooms in his camera more than usual, and on top of that, his mouse sensitivity is turned up way too high and he keeps over correcting his aiming causing the camera to bounce around constantly

Funny, in one of the last games I played on this map, I too encountered a sub in our starting cap while in a destroyer. I got so fed up with the bullshit that is submarines that I just ran him over. Killed him, took me down to critical health, but I lived and the sub was dead. Literally run over by a destroyer. I hope he felt the disrespect, because subs are the most disrespectful class in the game.

We crossed at 0.00 Long on 01 April, 1983 after a port call in the Ivory Coast. We went east from Norfolk, Virginia, USA 0n 01 March and arrived in Alameda, (San Francisco) California on 30 October.

The only reason I bought the Kidd was it was the closest in-game model to the Cassin Young, a destroyer preserved here in Boston. It can be a pretty decent brawler ship, and I've had good games in it (I'm present in one of Notser's vids, one of the radar Minotaur ones). Of course, I haven't played WoWS since the Great Community Revolt and I don't plan on rejoining, but it was a fun ship. And yes, kudos to the art department. That water!

hey Jingles. Crossed the equator on the U.S.S. Guadalcanal going from Diego Garcia to the Persian gulf in 1987. We weren't allowed to do the ceremony because we were trying to get the helos mission ready, so I don't know if I can officially call myself a shellback. Prolly still just a pollywog. Barely better than a sillyvilian. Sigh...

Bold of you to put the words 'balanced' and 'aircraft carriers' in the same sentence there Jingles, even more so with the word 'soviet'. Very brave indeed. XD
Also I can't be the only one bothered by the fact that subs can't be detected by hydro if they're at max depth. I have legitimately had subs dive directly under me when I have hydro running and they go undetected because of course in wargaming-land sonar can't detect subs within 1km of it's source...

Plank owner on two warships as well as a shellback. Sadly, the hazing that went along with getting your shellback was not allowed when i was in, because there's always some asshole who takes it too far and actually hurts people.
Just like when i was in, when an enlisted got promoted, you "tacked on" the new rank with a punch to the arm where the rank symbol was located. But even when i was in, some assholes took it too far and actually really hurt people. Not talking just a bruise, talking deep tissue damage. We had people who had to be taken off the ship to go to a hospital, because of fears of DVT. When the entire upper arm turns a deep purple, you've taken it too far.
Sure, when i got promoted, i got punched in the arm a lot, but it was usually a friendly thing, and just part of the lore of the service. It was considered good luck. But assholes are assholes and have to ruin everything.
