Emirates A380 - VERY Turbulent Gatwick Landing

  • EK015 brings me back to my home country for the first time in 11 years in typical English weather. We were warned when approaching the channel that the landing would be particularly rough and they weren't wrong. The nose camera was showing clearly how the world's largest passenger aircraft was swaying side by side. The baby you may hear in the background was dead silent throughout the 7 hour flight but obviously this landing was too much.

@@reubenmorris487 It was, ontop of the 30 hours of travel from New Zealand. When the captain makes an announcement when flying over the channel that its going to be rough then it deserves "Very turbulent landing". I wasnt the only one struggling to walk to baggage claim either. Looks can be deceiving.

Yesterday I landed at Gatwick on the A380 as well with Emirates. There were heavy crosswinds and the landing was rough. We never got an announcement for it but I knew it was due to the winds on approach. However, the funniest thing was, after hitting the ground and wine bottles falling down the stairs, we get a message on screen asking to rate how the flight was, and everybody started laughing.

AD ALERT! TH-cam appears to be putting ads on this video, in spite of me being ineligible, or willing, to monetize my videos. I am still considering what to do since i dont like them making money off my video without my permission. Will mull it over.
I uploaded it the same day that I landed and i was still struggling to walk straight. It really felt worse than it looked and if i had two cameras i would have put one on the nose cam so you could see how much the plane was being thrown around during the decent.
    Cheers again!

A380's leading edge high lift device configuration is shown here clearly, having droop noses in the inboard section of the wing with no gap between them and the wing, and slats in the middle and outboard sections with a gap. This configuration was chosen to avoid middle section of the wing from stalling before the inboard section, as it would have done if a slat was used for the whole span of the wing.

    • @philipdoyle3155
      @philipdoyle3155 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Not really… the smaller A320 has a smaller surface area for the wind gusts to act on compared to a larger A380. For the same updraft/downdraft/gust of wind, there is a larger surface area on a bigger aircraft to catch that gust… some of the most intense drops I’ve experienced have been on larger 777/747/A330s.

Dissenting opinion here. I hate the feeling of dropping and rising in turbulence and looking out the window helps me. But at least on the lower deck of the A380, the window seat has a huge gap between it and the actual window, making it so you can't really get a feel for where the horizon is. I felt like I was flying in the middle/aisle when I was actually window.
Then we flew over the north sea and hit some kind of rain storm at crusing altitude. We were in, I'd say, light-moderate chop for 15 minutes until the pilot readjusted the altitude. You could DEFINITELY feel it, people were talking about it and I'm pretty sure someone got sick.

I thought we had collided with something and let out a pretty loud word beginning with F. Got some funny looks I can tell you.

This is now my most watch video, beating a 2013 upload of a guy missing his train at Cambridge trainstation in 2007. I'm amazed at how quickly this video is racking up views. Thank you all.

What turbulence? Just a heavy landing.

No disrespect, but if you think that’s “very turbulent”, then you obviously haven’t ever experienced just how much worse it can be.
The landing was a bit heavy, but other than that, I’d call that a pretty average landing into Gatwick (which is often blustery with thick, lumpy clouds). Oh, and before anyone says “it feels worse than it looks,” yes I appreciate and understand the perception of motion!

I would not call that a Turbulent landing, I have seen a turbulent landing with EK in northern England. If you want a turbulent landing come to Thailand during a tropical storm, you vector for ages waiting for the gap and then the captain announces 'here we go' you come in like a seesaw :D

This was a normal landing with little turbulence.

The A380 does not fly like a leaf when it is in a category 3 hurricane due to its size. BUT NOT FOR THE A330

I've seen a lot worse turbulence videos that were down right scary.

Next time leave the camera loose so people can really see the turbulence... 😂 you can clearly see that wing flexing, this was definitely turbulent.
