Star Wars has always used big name actors. Although we often remember Alec Guiness for portraying Obi-Wan, he was a huge actor in his time and Star Wars was one of his last roles before he died. Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) was also a big actor, as was Liam Neeson (Qui Gon Jinn), Samuel L Jackson (Mace Windu), Christopher Lee (Count Dooku). Even Ewan McGregor was a hot commodity during the prequels after his work on Trainspotting and Black Hawk Down. The difference with hiring big names nowadays is that so many Hollywood celebrities have become characters unto themselves, where someone like RDJ is known for being Iron Man, or Chris Evans is known for being Captain America - and this includes Ryan Gosling too, although he doesn't have a big memorable role the same as the others, they all have this sort of cult following behind them which views them in the same light as the character they portrayed rather than simply having the reputation of a talented and versatile actor. That's why George Lucas always tried to hire unknown actors, like Hayden Christensen or Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, to play his main characters while the big names would only ever be supporting roles. Having someone audiences aren't familiar with play the main character in your movie helps immerse the audience more than big A-list actors would.
Honestly I feel like Ryan Gosling would be an amazing pick for the lead role. Watched plenty of movies with him and he was amazing actor in every single one of them. I was sceptical when I first heard he's gonna be playing the lead character in Bladerunner but he fit in perfectly. He also has a massive potential to make a buzz around the IP as he's being memed to oblivion with "literally me" memes. And I bet my Imperial Credits on the fact that this case would be no different.
Back in the day, actors like Guiness, Cushing, and Lee were every bit as prominent as Gosling is today. It might be more accurate to say that this would be the first time a top-tier actor was cast in a lead role in a Star Wars film, assuming of course that this happens at all.
I do want Star Wars to succeed, but I really feel like announcements like this are just putting a bandaid on a shotgun wound. The real issues aren't being fixed.

Again, Disney misdiagnosing their actual problem. What about good, well executed stories, agenda free, and true to the original franchise? No matter how much lipstick they slap on a pig, it's still gonna be a pig.
Yall who get hyped because Ryan Gosling is a great actor: are you saying Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson etc are not great actors? Just get a great WRITER and then you can put a bag of potatoes in the lead role and it will be a great film.
Don't think I've seen Ryan in anything But in trailers and he is probably a good actor. And he might be a Star Wars fan. But don't forget, so was Leslye....

Harrison Ford wasn't an unknown consider how George Lucas made movies around Harrison Ford.
@@robertagren9360 He wasn't a prominent actor at that point either; his only significant role before ANH was in American Grafitti.
Gosling is a good actor, he's got the comedic chops, he's got the emotional stuff, he can do action.. I think this is good news..
Ryan Gosling being the lead of a Star Wars movie would be good for the brand imo.
I have a bad feeling about this...
Im just ben !!! Lmfao
Ken-Obi. My favorite Jedi yet!

Star powers never got me to the cinema before and won't now.
If anyone is not really familiar with Ryan Gosling‘s serious work, watch “Drive”, “Only God Forgives” DEFINITELY, “Blade Runner 2049”

Ken Benobi
Ryan Gosling is my pookie, I would do what ever is required for my mookie pookie 🥰🥰
Your thumbnail background and the color of his suit made me have a horrible thought. What if Ryan Gosling were the recast of Luke Skywalker. 😂
"YAY SPACE!!" /Barbie/
NEWS FROM NABOO 🗣️🗣️
I love Blade Runner 2049. Based on that alone I think he has the chops. I just hope the story is there.
Count me in! RG is a pretty great actor
I am just curious to see where this news goes.

We’ll see at Celebration in April what they have truly announced.
@achaudhari101 I hate sounding so negative, but I don't trust their announcements due to their past announcements lol. I'm trying 😅
👍
Will the female lead be Emma Stone?

I feel bad for Daisy Ridley Star Wars and Lucas screwed over her career twice.
I'm completely fine with big names being in Star Wars, BUT for Force sake DO NOT make them into a Jack Black/Lizzo type situation.
Don't think I've seen Ryan in anything But in trailers and he is probably a good actor. And he might be a Star Wars fan.

Kennedy Star Wars has had about four times the movies that never happen under Kennedy than movies that did
Zack Snider Star Wars
Boba Fett movie
Star Wars Taika Waititi
Star wars trilogy by Rian Johnson
Rangers of the New Republic that Kennedy fired the Star Gina Carano
Episode nine by Colin Trevarrow
The Obi Wan Kinobi trilogy
The Benioff-Wiess star wars movie
Star wars by Kevin Feigi
Rogue Squadron
The Acolyte
The Rey movie which starts a trilogy
Now Ryan Gosling
Maybe the Ryan Gosling might come out because it is less likely that it would be a feminist movie (at this posting not sure)
