Lemons to Lemonade was my original guess because they are also in the Dallas area. As soon as you mentioned the stain glazing technique, I knew it was That Shabby Guy. I am subscribed to both channels, as well as Sab’s Rehabs.
I found you thru Shabby Guy! Subscribed to you both. When I saw you were using the stain as a glaze I said, that is what Ryan does! You are both awesome. 💖💖💖
Gorgeous work! Loved both but the stained one really stood out. I'm subscribed to both channels and really appreciate that both of you recycle pieces and take them to the next level. Love the homage to a sustainable world. :)
Loved this look, I've been subscribed to Shabby Guy for quite a while a while now. Subscribed to yourself for a few months. Thoroughly enjoy your content x
Subscribed to you and That Shabby Guy! I really like the stain better and definitely will try it! Thanks for the tip on how to not explode! Love love love your videos!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats!!!! Your comment was randomly selected to win the GIVEAWAY!!! Please use one of the social media account listed in the description or email me at sabsrehabs@gmail.com to get your gift card!
I just subscribed to That Shabby Guy. Was already subscribed to your channel. This is my first time seeing this using stain and I LOVE it!! Awesome job!!
Love your channel girl! I am now subscribed to that shabby guy … I’ve not seen any of his videos so thank you for the recommendation… your talents / gift / art is outstanding my friend … and just a side note you have the most beautiful voice for narration… I could listen to you speak for hours :)
Wow surprising I like the black stain and I’m totally a wax gal! Great video I loved the comparison will definitely be trying this out sometime. Thanks for sharing .
I kinda freaked out with you when you put that stain on lol. That look on your face was priceless! But they both turned out beautiful. I am already subscribed to both channels.
You really did awesome by troubleshooting with the mineral spirits. I've been subscribed to you and that shabby guys pages since you started. Thank you for telling us what did or didn't work. I like the wax results better only because it seems easier ☺️
I already subscribe to you and was excited to learn about That Shabby Guy. I am from Texas so happily am now subscribed with him. When you were going through the process I was sure I would like the black wax better. I was surprised at the end, although they are very close I actually liked the stain best. You are so inspiring to watch! I am also excited to binge watch Shabby
I’m already Subscribed to you & just Subscribed to That Shabby Guy. I love watching you transform furniture & you voice to so amazing (I know you hear that all the time but just wanted to tell you myself) I love both the wax & stain for different looks. I think the stain looks more defined & darker. That you for always being so through in you tutorials. You do beautiful work ❤️❤️❤️
I like both methods, but I'm drawn more to the wax. It looks softer. Both methods really spiced up the look of the tables. I'm subscribed to both you and Shabby Guy and I can see what he inspires you.
I've used stain before to do this kind of thing, and I find it easier to use more of a dry-brush technique so you don't get as much stain in one area and also wipe as you go.
I love both pieces. I find it hard to tell which is wax and which is stain. I'm subscribed to you and Shabby and have spoken to you a few times in the live chat on his channel. You have picked two great flippers to inspire you. It's no wonder you're as good as you are.
I've been subscribed to your channel since the ugly duckling challenge). I am subscribed to That Shabby Guy. Thanks for introducing That Shabby Guy. Both of the nightstands look great. Since I'm a beginner at this, I would probably go with the wax.
Awesome! Yes I would definitely start with wax for a beginner. I think having the wax knowledge already helped me be able to work with the stain process.
Didn't know That Shabby Guy before now but he looks awesome so now I'm subscribed to both of you. Thanks! It's hard to tell the difference, but I think I like the look of the wax better. It's a little... softer, maybe? But both look good.
Subbed to both of y'all! I only used wax once, way back in the day, on an antique ivory finish for a vanity used as a bathroom sink base for my mother. I had used stain before and the wax frazzled my nerves. I've only used stain since then. Both look great to me, but the stain method is easier for me. 💜
I have been subscribed to both of you for the longest time. These night stands look so lovely, I wish they were mine lol. I think the black wax has a warmer look to it, the stain looks colder...I dont know why its just how I see them.
I just found your channel recently, and I love your content. With every video I watch, I learn something new! When I use dark wax, I am not satisfied with how it looks, so I am excited to try the stain method. Would gel stain work?
I have never tried using gel stain. I consulted with That Shabby Guy since he has more experience doing this method than me. Gel stain dries up quicker and doesn't allow for as much work time. He recommended you could try thinning out your gel stain with mineral spirits and try that method if gel stain is the only thing you have on hand. To get the best results oil based stain is recommended.
I like both of them. I don't see too much of a difference. I luv That Shabby Guy. His work is never "SHABBY". I, too, am a Texan and I luv watching him do his magic on his flips. I think you are really good at what you do as well. I have learned alot from watching your tutorials. I have done the "stain as glaze" on some of my pieces I have done for my home. I used a semi gloss paint so that the stain would glide easier on the surface of the piece. I did a crimson red with a walnut stain and it came out really nice. Like you, I felt kind of intimidated by the process, but I figure that if it doesn't work out, you can redo it.
Beautiful nightstand’s! I really liked both, the wax and the stain look amazing! But if I have to pick which one I’d use? It would be the stain! You did an outstanding job on the nightstand’s. Oh yeah… I’m subscribed to you both.
Hi Sab, I'm subscribed to both channels....I like both methods, they look very similar but it seems the stain took more work to achieve the same look for you, can't decide, I would have to see them in person...Take care...stay safe...
I found it to be way less intimidating than I had worked up in my head. Lol. I plan on doing another one soon with some dark walnut stain. ❤ You should definitely give it a go!
Hi I see this is an older video…..love and appreciate the wax verses stain method. I’ve watched many Shabby guy videos and every time he would pop that stain out I would cringe! But it always looked good…lol I think I like the stain better….dark wax isn’t easy for everyone….even though you can erase with clear wax or mineral spirits….think the stain takes some of the guesswork and muscle fatigue out….I may be wrong? Christina from The Reclaimed Heirloom uses glaze to increase work time, does in sections and always looks so natural….it does need a top coat…but love the look! Wondered if you have every used glaze and what you may think of it? Love your channel….thank you for sharing😊kim
I haven't used glaze, but I would think stain would give you a longer work time since it is oil based and not water based. I do have some glaze in stock though and will be trying it out once the weather warms up some.
The black wax reminds me of pencil fill ins where the stain looks like marker. I like the stain more. I am glad you did the side by side comparison though because this knowledge is useful in getting different effects. I guessed correctly right? 😉
The stain appeared to have altered the color of the paint. It looked grayish. It looked like the wax method didn't do that to the paint color. I would choose the wax method. (New to your channel.) 😀
Other waxes I think easier to work with if you’re using chalk paint if you’re not using a paint like that and the stain looks good but I think it’s a big waste because you’re applying so much then to remove all of it all over again I think they both look good maybe for some peopleIt’s easier to use a stain maybe for some people the wax it all depends on what type of products you like to use if they’re water-based or not I could see it being quicker with the stain but then you have to use mineral spirits and it’s just too much products wasted

I like the black stain, it looks less messy. The contrast is more dramatic! ♥️

From 'sob' story to another lovely 'Sab' story. The black wax version is more subtle.
I like both methods, but I'm drawn more to the wax. It looks softer. Both methods really spiced up the look of the tables. I'm subscribed to both you and Shabby Guy and I can see what he inspires you.
It’s beautiful!

Already subbed to both channels!! Love this comparison. I like both finishes, but usually prefer the wax.
Subbed to both and appreciate the comparison vid!
I feel like the stain is just a bit cleaner- less messy looking… but both look good! Thanks for sharing! I’m less scared now to try
Yay! I am glad! The stain is definitely a cleaner look
Well bless your heart. Wow!
Lovely 🥰 I think I prefer the crispness of the stain 😊 (Sub to you and that shabby guy 😊)
Subbed to both of y'all!

Surprised by that shabby guy .. black wax definitely
Thank you for sharing subscribed to both 💕🖖🏽🌈
I have been subscribed to both of you for the longest time. These night stands look so lovely, I wish they were mine lol. I think the black wax has a warmer look to it, the stain looks colder...I dont know why its just how I see them.
I can see that. The wax is definitely a softer look, while the stain gives that nightstand Beetlejuice vibes. Lol

I think next time I will try semi gloss as well. The process ended up being waaay easier than I had built it up to be in my head. Lol
I sub to both! Love them both but the stain is especially nice.
Thank you! Its my fav too!
That Shabby Guy (I rethought it when I heard the Grayco sprayer clue). He does have a unique aesthetic.
Yup! You got it!!
