I was given one of these as a gag gift. However - I really like it, no joke. There is nothing wrong with these instruments. It’s up to the player to make them sound good! I’ve actually put on a few performances with my cardboard Blues Box guita plugged into my amp and the audience was fascinated. Clear nail polish around the F-holes and where your fingernails might scratch the body will protect it. Some brown craft paint on the inside of the box, some brass corner protectors on the corners, and a ukulele strap will make this thing look and function much better. It’s inspired me to learn and eventually build a better one.
@Devan Bishop , One of these was passed onto me today, missing some bits and pieces, including the complete back side of it and the jack plug. still had the piezo pick up though. Aside from the same peeling issue of the laminate,AND the body is made from stiff CARDBOARD instead of wood, this is a good beginner set up for a cigar box guitar.., And by beginner, I mean cheap and cheerful! :D Heres my problem though, help appreciated. :D .., Because I'm missing the back side of the box, I need to find a solution. Can I just glue wood from a dresser drawer to it, or this a dumb idea? I have another box made from wood, and it will work OK, I think?.., But its half the size. The amount of work I need to do for either choice is negligible. Thanks. :D
I liked the video. I've been making 3 string for a few years now. Mine are a bit more advanced of course, but for a store bought, I really like it, but it's so short. What's the scale? I'm using 24.5" scale or 25" scale. Thanks.

You're right the body it is pretty cheap.. instead of buying me a kit like this i bought myself a cigar box and i built myself the whole cigar box guitar .. if you follow the construction layout of this cheapo one you can't go wrong into building yourself one of those 3 strings CBG with much more quality at least at the same price of this kit ..
I got one for free. The neck wasn’t strong enough to keep it in tune. I liked the slide. It would make a good gift for a child under 10 to get them interested in music. I would buy a better quality one for an older kid though.

ya i got one and thought it was the shit....then i realized that beyond the first lesson it has no tone...it is crap...hoping i can strip it for parts for a build ...is the pickup and tuners worth $25 ?...the glass slide is useless to most people.... ut i gotta say...it fueled my need to learn a real CBG !...for that i give it a thumbs up !
$35 to get started? I am beginning to understand the many cbg makers on Etsy, asking $140-250. Pretty good markup, without a lot of special skill (no offense)
The kit does look cheap and to be honest I like building my own so idk if I would buy a kit I mean for 30 bucks it isn’t bad however homemade ones are just cooler

I had one, the box fell apart so i saved the neck and got a wood cigar box and replaced it, now it sounds realy good, thanks for the video.
That’s a great idea and if anything, you can get a good neck to put on another guitar after this one is done haha. I’m gonna do that for sure

I got one of these and put it together , i put the head of the bolt facing up . Does not make much difference . I think it looks better .

It should be in the book unless it’s been changed.
One reviewer said they coated the box with a clear coat (lacquer?) which stiffened up the box some.
That’s not a bad idea for it. I still have mine sitting in the corner.
