My entire life, I never felt like I could relate to someone by this much. What an energy and spriteful soul you have. Many thanks for the video 😊
Literally his personality is so familiar
I thought you said "spiteful".
....My sentiments eggZachery...much appreciated !!
Yeah Del,s a great soul.Gifted man

It cracked me up when you used the Fibonacci calipers and center gauge to place the holes, then held the box up in the air to cut the hole. Like my dad always said, measure with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, and cut it with a chainsaw.
you made me laugh… i also spit out my drink i laughed so hard!!! thank you ?? 😊
I must say that was brilliant I have been looking and looking for someone like you that shows how to make Cigar Box Guitar thank you so much, now I will build one.
Dang............now I wanna build a cigar box guitar. I've never picked one up but it looks like fun. You're a good instructor and I appreciate the effort.
I'm curious about three string Cigar Box guitars, because three notes make a chord. So, it seems like it would really be the way to go on a stringed instrument
I really appreciate your back angle idea I know you use that on all of your builds if I’m correct I’ve never actually used it but you explained it very well here with the thickness of the box times three at the back end and the single thickness towards the front that was really illuminating and made it really clear and easy to understand I’m definitely gonna try it thank you so much I appreciate your content
Awesome thanks 🙏 I’m on my 3rd CBG, your videos helped a lot. CBGs are like Lays potato chips, Ya can’t build just one 😋
heheheee you got it
Just starting out building. Love all of your content.
I'm finally building my first one today. Well i started yesterday. I've watched many of your videos the last couple months. I think this one is the best end to end video there is. Explaining just the stuff you need to know and not a bunch of extra gibiddy gab 😅 i finally scored a bakers dozen worth of boxes yesterday. You can't just go to the cigar store here in Canada. It's illegal for them to sell them. You guys think you have silly laws about stuff. You can't top Canada.
awesome!! good luck with everything!!!
Todays take away~SHINTO RASP! Yo bro! the Forstner bit changed my whole life, and I was finally able to sleep at night! Just got the glue gun~(was using silicone glue )~and now I need to hunt the RASP! The family asked me what I wanted for Christmas~I said with out hesitation "The Mighty Might Mini Table" saw! Now I'm gonna try to sweet talk you into making me the jig, signing it and asking your Intel guy to ship it out! A new 2020 Proverb inspired by this video: "Its better to watch Del Puckett videos and learn to build and play, than to obsessively track politics and current events, a longer life will ensue." I give this video 2 thumbs up and a snap
As far as the mini saw from Harbor Freight, it terribly under powered, but does work with soft wood used for a fretboard, such a a yard stick, pine or poplar, forget it for oak, cherry or maple or purple heartwood fretboard, it stalls way to easily. Use a scroll saw and reverse the blade to cut into a marked fret space. Much easier and safer.
I use an inverted blade in a scroll saw to make precision cuts to pound in fret wire. I also use reclaimed oak flooring from the Re-Store for the fret board.. Hard as rock and easy to do.
Great video. Too bad Lowe's hasn't found their way to Europe yet, that yardstick will be hard to come by.
Great on explanation. Not so much on actually showing the work being done...
7:30. what about calling it a 1/4 inch female jack or why don't we call it a 1/4 inch Jill? How's that fit your Funkin Wagonals?
Hello, I have no knowledge about woodwork, do you have any tips on how or where I can begin? Do I need a Woodwork station or smth like that to build this? Such a great video, I am just a enthusiastic Thanks
What size is the fretboard how thick is it and Lowe's says they have no fretboard template like that
Where do I find a supply of cigar boxes? i see you have many in the background.
As a carpenter, I found this very interesting. Well done.
Now you can build a truly unique c box guitar
Hear hear old chap. Bye.
You really helped me on my next one
I'm going to make a banjo 🪕 first
This dude and his skills are awesome I like his builds just bought a kit I wish I had one of his
Love the video and your energy. What was the size of the box?
hi. what is the purpose of cutting the frets into the yardstick? is that tradition?
What are the dimensions of the Padron box?
Never knew about shintu rasp good shaping tool
I used to have one of those hp guys. A dog shredded it while I slept.
So, because it's the guitar, it's an output jack. The amp has the input jack. The sound comes out of the guitar, into the amp. :D
simply put … it’s “the jack”. hopefully people can figure out what to do with it. 🤓?
That so cool i wanna buy myself one great stuff
Hiya. I have a problem with perspective. Sure, I have many problems, but perspective is the one that is on my mind..I have a box for my pencils that is same brand as that'n. Mine is about half the size of other cigar boxes I have, different brands. I don't know if you are four feet tall or six feet... Thus I am wondering if you are using a bigger cigar box than my smaller one. I noted your box has, inside, more cigar rating labels than mine, this indicating more cigar capacity. Can you ease my troubled mind concerning this?
i use all sizes…. smaller ones for ukuleles … larger ones for basses
Hi Del, loved your video. Don't know if you're still reading and/or replying to this one, but it raised a few questions. Do you use a pre-amp to plug your piezo into before the amp (I've read where that's necessary to improve tone & volume)? 2nd, why do you install the hinge on the top of the box, vs. on the bottom - or extend the neck through the box and install it on the tail? Thanks!
In the process of making my first one...
That was absolutely amazing! Going back to watch your other videos! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I’m enjoying your channel…What size kerf blade do you use on your mini table saw? Thanks
.023
how big was your hole saw cutter for the sound hole? What type of strings did you use? How did you carve the saddle block?
normal guitar strings … just selected the ones i wanted.
belt sander and then sand paper
I have absolutely no woodworking skills but damn I am getting the urge to build a cigar box guitar
do it do it do it !!!!
I like I comment thank you crazy uncle
Nice work - very innovative.....would go nicely with 'swamp guitar' genre.
this is the corniest dad video I have ever seen and I love it!
Try using brass BB's as your frit markers countersink them. Would look real nice
Maybe use a clear glue to cover them
Thanks for the tip! i have some BB’s 🤓
I'd wait until you called it an input or output and then I'd call it the same thing as you. Would you then call it the opposite? If so, I'd adjust to always be in agreement with you, consistency or reality be damned! :)
thank you jacob. 😎. (see what i did there?)
No idea what you did in the first minute with removing corners etc. And "cut these guys out" and "glue these guys" Bummer.
… i literally have hundreds of videos explaining… keep watching
I hope you see this so I can figure it out. You said you were using a 25” fret board template but it looks like your fret board is 17”?
25 inch scale is 25 inches from the saddle to the nut
Amazing work, I’m starting with a Diddley Bow let’s see how that goes.
go for it bud
I wonder if You can just purchase the neck. Fr those of us who a bit 12:52 challanged.
we’re all challenged
10:24 ... the back angle .. you are so right! I took your advise a year ago and noticed right away how much easier it was to get proper string action! I next went to my remaining cbgs and removed the necks and cut a back angle!! So worth the effort!
i’m trying to help people out... without being too judgmental... or opinionated 😎
ohh yeah.. i was in the neck glue up stage of my latest build & ran across del & hit VERY great hint about back angle( THANK YOU DEL ) ... as he was explaning it, my les paul popped into my mind & i remembered when i discovered it had that "back angle" ...my build is almost complete & the back angle is working wonderful for string action & the surface mount CBGITTY flat humbucker.. again, thanks del.
Just picked up my first CBG and now I can't wait to build one...thank you
Gotta have one
BADASS
I think I’ve found a new hobby. My tobacco store guy has lots of boxes that need a new life.
make friends with him
Why have you chosen to use a piezo instead of a more conventional wire wound pickup?
i mix and match … nothing set in stone
great video thanks
Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge. I’m sure That I’m not the only who is going to give building one or several of these a shot. Much appreciated.
your life will never be the same 😄
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar p⁰⁰⁰0⁰pp
Piezo makes electricity that it sends to the amp therefore output jack and the one on the amp is an input. easy
yup… the signal wants to get OUT into the world and into OUT into peoples ears
Dale, What blade are you using on your mini table saw to cur the fret slots, thanks
info is posted in the fret slotting videos
Loved the video. As a slide player who loves Blues I’ve always loved the way a cigar box guitar sounds. You did a great job with the build. Plus I love the jamming you did on your instrument. Kudos!
I ❤️ this video 👍.. hours ago i make an appoinment tomorrow to buy an used my first cigar box guitar.....right now im watching your video and very happy to play it! 😎🤟
I built a box ukulele with a piezo pickup and it sounds amazing with the amp
So the frets are not glued? So if my fret slots are a tad to big, what glue would you use.
i use regular tight bond
I might make one in school
Nice!
More cow bell please! Great video, Thanks for sharing !
Great video brother 👍 Thanks for the fun teaching 😀. You blew me away with your Shinto rasp 😮 my first time seeing it. Man that looks awesome
Smooth as a snakes navel !
Mine broke I miss my baby
Stunning Del, just stunning 😍
Fantastic, love your humour it makes the video very entertaining, and your wood working skills make it look easy.im sure it needs a lot of patience to do this.
what kind of wood is the Lowes fretboard made of? Is it maple?
not sure… they’re made in china 😩
"man glitter" rofl
Well, I figured out why I haven't seen you making a CBG out of an 'Acid' cigar box. They're beautiful boxes but they're a little too thick for the piezo. So I'm just putting a hot humbucker on mine. I considered one of those slim-line humbuckers so I wouldn't have to do much cutting but they just can't be hot enough for my taste. The thickness of the box also makes it somewhat unacceptable as an acoustic but hey, plug it in and rock on. I'm not even cutting in sound-holes.
I made my dog really jealous, I made my nuts and saddles out of bone. I just sticky-tape the flattest side of the bone to a chunk of 2x4 to run it through the saw, s l o w l y.
Thanks for turning me on to Fret Guru. I get a little something out of every video you make.
sounds like you’re on FIRE!!!! 😎
1/4" barrel jack
Great video! Just out of curiosity, what was your patient little friend’s request? I’ve heard the tune before but can’t think of the name of the song.
not sure exactly … heheheee sorry buddy
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar that’s ok. Video is awesome. Enjoyed learning and listening!
Just built my first CBG. Finished it tonight. Love it!... and then I found this video. Wish I watched this first! But I am still pretty happy with my first build, and already planning on many more! Great vid! Thank you.
welcome to the mosh pit
Hey Friend!!!😂
first
Pretty Damm good
From the beginning you don't tell how wide and thick the board is you're using for the neck
typically 1/4 thick… 1.5 inches wide… then cut it to as long as you need for frets . standard but can be slightly customized if needs be
Thank you very much for your help!!!
Love your videos Del but have a question about the fretboard and neck. The Lowes ruler fretboard is narrower than the neck. Do you cut, file or sand the neck width down to match the ruler.
I'm in the process of rewatching the video now but don't remember seeing where you mentioned that
Thanks for your videos and keep up the good work.
sometimes i do … not always… sometimes i fill in with wood filler… sometimes i leave the gap… depends on my mood i guess
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar thanks Del...good to know. I've been hunting but can't find a video showing how to attach a neck with the back angle to the back of the CBG. And how to literally cut that back angle. I'm almost positive I've seen your video on that but now can't find it.
Love your videos and always look forward to new ones.
Awesome video
good stuff Del, your videos are always informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work.
SWEET! 👍👍🇺🇸
Amazing!
Nice build Del. As usual. And I loved that last picking tune. Very laid back. Good choice from your little mate. 👍🇦🇺
thank you Guzzo! it’s a fun little ditty. very satisfying to play
Great ima go buy $5000 worth of tools to.😂
when you get to be my age you have more tools than you need
brilliant
My mother brought me one of these boxes identical to the one you’re using and two Cuesta-Ray boxes that are a bit more narrow without real hinges or latch for the lid but paper keeps the lid able to open in one direction. I was grateful already but after you got so pumped and said that box would sound so good I’m more excited. I could have killed her when she said the old man who just randomly brought a bunch of his cigar boxes to work and offered them for free “had some that were bigger wooden ones that I just thought were a lot bigger than the one you used to make your first one (fail). I asked her if he had anyone else take them and she said “well I was gonna take them anyway and use them for something but so and so said she wanted them because her husband played guitar and wanted to build one and I just took these”. Owe Moma you know how hard it is around here to find free or even cheap boxes and then asked her to explain the bigger boxes.. her explanation was 4 big and finely built boxes that smelled good even but she thought I wouldn’t want the big ones. Then I got the feeling the other lady ran over her a little or even a lot and mother did as she does best and let her basically take all the obviously nice boxes except for one and never let mother have a chance because mothers too shy to tell her as I would with a smile “wait I want at least to split them I was already gonna just take them all and decided I would share them with you. That’s not mother’s way and that B knew she would be able to take whatever. I’d rather have shy mother than the best cigar box but that women is a bit of a bully and lucky she wasn’t dealing with me lol.
great job my friend I will do one as soon as possible
You are a funny man! Nice job and thank you!
😎
So cool
Badassssssszz
Wonderfull, the best DIY video tet, I am SOLD on building my own 3 stringer
Top
Bauer brand at Harbor freight has heat guns and hot glue guns that work with the same 20v battery as all of the other Bauer cordless tools. The glue gun is AWESOME and being cordless makes it WAAAAY more versatile. Just thought I’d share.
Nice work Del. Makes me want to build another one right now.
Sorry but still I am confused, please help me to understand....you slant the back of the neck which goes inside the box and then you level it with blocks underneath?
It would be nice to understand because until today my necks have been always straight. Please let me know.
Is the hinge just screwed to the top?
typically… but screwed into the neck wood also
I just Love Seeing People Building things that are near to their Heart! Such a great Tutorial!
AWESOME! I have been staring at this Cuesta-Rey box wondering what to do with it.
Phenomenal process and humor! I sounds like I Need You Baby by Lauren Hill lol
Lost me on the neck and fretboard!
i have other videos that might help
Can u tune n play a Ukulele like a cigar box guitar?
definitely
Hello! Can you please tell me how wide the fretboard should be for a three-string cigar box guitar? In advance, many thanks for the answer!!!
Man its crazy how it feels like listening to an old friend, amazing videos this gotta be the funniest instruction vídeo ever, regards from Sonora Mexico
thank you… i guess ?!? 😎
New hobby alert. Im going to try to make one.
